Body Control Modules: Removal & Installation Dodge Intrepid II

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

WARNINGDeactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Do not apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.
CAUTIONAlways turn ignition off before disconnecting any control module connectors. Failure to do so could result in damage to control module. When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.

Note. After replacement of BCM, vehicle will not start until VTSS system is enabled.

  1. Body Control Module (BCM) is attached to junction block. Junction block must be removed to enable removal of BCM. Junction block is located behind left side of instrument panel. (Схема №2)
  2. Unbolt remote negative cable terminal. Remote negative battery cable terminal is located between right strut tower and air cleaner air intake hose. Open driver's door. Pry off left instrument panel end trim cap. Remove left side under dash cover. Remove trunk lid switch and wiring.
  3. Disconnect harness connectors from junction block. Remove junction block by pulling straight down from mounting bayonet. Disconnect BCM and RKE module connectors. Remove 4 screws holding BCM to junction block and separate BCM from junction block.
  4. To install, transfer RKE module to replacement BCM. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Using scan tool, enable VTSS system.
  1. Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is located at driver's side front corner of engine compartment, between power distribution center and Transmission Control Module (TCM). (Схема №3)
  2. Disconnect negative battery cable at remote battery terminal on passenger's side strut tower. Remove speed control servo with bracket and lay aside.
  3. Remove filler neck from windshield washer fluid bottle. Remove TCM for access to PCM. Remove PCM retaining bolt and pull PCM outward. Disconnect harness connectors from PCM. Remove PCM. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable at remote battery terminal on passenger's side strut tower. Remove knee bolster. Remove upper and lower steering column covers.
  2. Disengage steering column wire retainer from SKIM. Remove SKIM retaining screw. Disconnect harness connector. Slide SKIM from around ignition switch and remove SKIM. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  1. Transmission Control Module (TCM) is located at driver's side front corner of engine compartment, next to power distribution center and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). (Схема №3)
  2. Disconnect negative battery cable at remote battery terminal on passenger's side strut tower. Remove speed control servo with bracket and lay aside.
  3. Remove filler neck from windshield washer fluid bottle. Disconnect harness connectors from TCM. Remove TCM. To install, reverse removal procedure.
