Body Control Modules: Overview Dodge Intrepid II

DESCRIPTION

The body control computer system consists of a combination of modules that communicate over the Programmable Communication Interface (PCI) multiplex system. Through the PCI bus, information related to the operation of vehicle components and circuits are relayed to the appropriate system module(s). This reduces the complexity of vehicle wiring and size of wiring harness.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are accessed through a 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) using Chrysler's Diagnostic Readout Box (DRBIII(R)) scan tool or generic scan tool. DLC is located on left side of steering column, above brake pedal.

Modules that are connected to the PCI bus are as follows

  1. Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
  2. Memory Heat Seat/Mirror Module (MHSMM)
  3. Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM)
  4. Transmission Control Module (TCM)
  5. Electro/Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC)
  6. Overhead Travel Information System (OTIS)
  7. Air Bag Control Module (ACM)
  8. Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Control Module
  9. Radio
  10. Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) Display Head
  11. Body Control Module (BCM)

The Body Control Module (BCM) is mounted to junction block. Junction block is located behind left end cap of instrument panel. BCM supplies vehicle occupants with various visual and audible information and controls various vehicle functions.

BCM has several customer programmable features which can be enabled or disabled. These features are rolling door locks, remote keyless entry horn chirp and remote keyless entry rear release toggle.

Wiper Erratic Operation In Intermittent Speeds

  1. Replace wiper high/low relay in power distribution center with known-good unit. Turn ignition on. Operate wipers in all speeds. If wipers do not operate properly, go to next step. If wipers operate properly, replace wiper high/low relay.
  2. Turn wipers off. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) harness connector C3. Disconnect wiper motor harness connector. Measure resistance in Tan/Red wire between terminal No. 4 at wiper motor harness connector and terminal No. 3 at BCM harness connector C3. (Схема №5)and (Схема №37). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Tan/Red wire between wiper motor and BCM.
  3. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Tan/Red wire) at BCM harness connector C3. If resistance is greater than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 100 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Tan/Red wire between wiper motor and BCM.
  4. Connect BCM harness connector C3. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, monitor wiper park switch status. Using a fused jumper wire, momentarily ground and terminal No. 4 (Tan/Red wire) at wiper motor harness connector while observing scan tool display. If wiper park switch input changes on scan tool, replace wiper motor. If wiper park switch input does not change on scan tool, replace BCM.
