The engine serial number (1) is located between the oil pan and the bellhousing. The serial number contains engine build date, build information, displacement, and build sequence number
Example: 8CAP1339710217
| WORLD ENGINE | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 | C | A | P1 | 339 | 7 | 1 | 0217 |
| Model Year | Engine Displacement | Engine Build Variation (with oil cooler, turbo, for MMNA) | Engine Plant | Julian Day of Year | Julian Year 2007 | Shift | Build Sequence Number |
| 2008 | A = 1.8L | P1 = GEMA North | |||||
| B = 2.0L | P2 = GEMA South | ||||||

- Unlock the retainers (2) and remove the fresh air inlet duct (3) from air cleaner housing (1).
- Remove the support bracket bolt from the strut tower.
- Remove the screws that hold the cover on the air cleaner housing. CAUTION: Do Not unplug the electrical connectors from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). A possible voltage spike can erase and damage the PCM.
- Position the air cleaner housing cover aside.
- Remove the air cleaner element (1).
- If necessary, clean the inside of the air cleaner housing.

- Install the new cleaner element (1). CAUTION: Do Not unplug the electrical connectors from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). A possible voltage spike can erase and damage the PCM.
- Place the cover over the air cleaner housing. Hand tighten the cover screws.
- Install the support bracket bolt to the strut tower and tighten to 10 N.m (89 in. lbs.).
- Install the fresh air inlet duct (3) on the air cleaner housing (1) and lock the retainers (2).
