Piston & Rod Assembly
- Ensure connecting rod and connecting rod cap are marked with corresponding cylinder number before removing. Install piston onto connecting rod so notch, groove or arrow on top of piston is properly located in relation to orientation button on connecting rod. (Scheme 10)
- Install piston into cylinder block so notch, groove or arrow on top of piston is toward front of engine. (Scheme 10) Ensure orientation button on connecting rod is facing correct direction. NOTE: Pistons contain a Black, dry-film lubricant coating baked onto piston skirt. DO NOT attempt to remove coating from piston skirt.
- Ensure orientation button on connecting rod faces toward front of engine on driver-side (cylinders No. 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 on left side) applications, and toward rear of engine on passenger-side (cylinders No. 2, 3, 6, 8 and 10 on right side) applications. (Scheme 10) Install largest chamfer on connecting rod bore so that it faces crankshaft journal fillet.
