Power unit ~177 words

Description

(1) Inductive engine speed sensor

"a" 2-way black connector

Supplier: BOSCH

Role

Role of the engine speed sensor

  • To measure the speed of rotation of the engine
  • Mark the top dead centre (TDC) on cylinders 1 and 4

Function

The target consists of 58 (60 - 2) pairs of magnetic poles distributed around the edge, with two poles being absent to mark the top dead centre

"b" ferromagnetic target

"c" magnet polar part assembly

"d" coil

"e" mechanical air gap

"A" signal (engine speed sensor)

"B" time

A high status corresponds to the passage of a tooth

The high/low transition coming after the zone of absence of two poles is representative of the top dead centre (TDC) position (top dead centre)

The frequency and amplitude of the signal produced by the sensor represent the speed of rotation of the engine

By combining the information supplied by the cylinder reference sensor and the engine speed sensor the engine management ECU determines the exact position of each cylinder
