SPEED PROPORTIONAL STEERING SYSTEM FUNCTIONAL TEST

Note. Perform SPEED PROPORTIONAL STEERING TEST 1A before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST: VER-5A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Start engine and turn steering wheel while monitoring amount of power steering assist. Using scan tool, de-activate Speed Proportional Steering (SPS) solenoid for 15 seconds. Turn steering wheel while monitoring amount of power steering assist. If steering has less power assist once SPS solenoid is de-activated, go to next step. If steering power assist is unchanged once SPS solenoid is de-activated, go to appropriate STEERING article.
  2. System is currently operating correctly. Inspect condition of Body Control Module (BCM) internal 20-pin connector. Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is mounted to junction block located behind left end cap of instrument panel. (Схема №1) Inspect SPS solenoid harness connector. Connector is located next to master cylinder. Clean and repair either connection as needed.

BODY VERIFICATION TEST

  1. Reconnect all previously disconnected components and connectors. If BCM was replaced, turn ignition on for at least 15 seconds. Program all RKE transmitters, recalibrate HVAC doors and program other options as necessary.
  2. If vehicle is equipped with VTSS, select MISCELLANEOUS and ENABLE VTSS. If battery was disconnected, start engine and recalibrate HVAC doors using scan tool.
  3. Ensure ignition is on. Erase all DTCs using scan tool. Turn ignition off and wait 5 seconds. Turn ignition on and fully operate system that was malfunctioning.
  4. If system is not operating properly, go to «SYMPTOM ID TEST 1A»(ref-679-S13732415342000031300000) . Using scan tool, read Body DTCs. If any DTCs are present, go to «SYMPTOM ID TEST 1B»(ref-679-S30986765722000031300000) . If no DTCs are present, system is operating correctly and customer's complaint cannot be duplicated, repair is complete.

VTSS VERIFICATION TEST

Ensure all doors, trunk and hood are closed. Open driver's door. Remove ignition key. Lock doors with power lock switch. Close driver's door. If instrument panel VTSS indicator light flashes, system is operational. If instrument panel VTSS indicator light does not flash, go to VTSS TEST 1A .

MEMORY SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST

Reconnect all previously disconnected components and connectors. Using scan tool, erase memory system DTCs. Operate power seat in all positions. Reset seat mirrors in both memory positions. Operate both seat heaters low and high. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If no DTCs are present, repair is complete. If any DTCs are present, go to MEMORY SYSTEM TEST 1A .

SPEED PROPORTIONAL STEERING SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST

Reconnect all previously disconnected components and connectors. Using scan tool, erase DTCs. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If any DTCs are present, go to SPEED PROPORTIONAL STEERING TEST 1A . If no DTCs are present, road test vehicle for at least 15 minutes. Perform several steering maneuvers at various speeds. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If any DTCs are present, go to SPEED PROPORTIONAL STEERING TEST 1A . If no DTCs are present, repair is complete.
