Circuit Description
The Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine during a given time. PCM uses MAF sensor information to monitor EGR flow rates. A large quantity of air entering the engine indicates an acceleration, high load situation or no EGR flow, while a small quantity of air entering the engine indicates deceleration, idle, or full EGR operation.
MAF sensor produces a frequency signal. DTC P0102 set if the signal from the MAF sensor does not match a predicted value based on engine coolant temperature, throttle angle, engine speed or MAF sensor is below the possible range of a normally operating MAF sensor. DTC will also set when the following conditions are present
- Engine is running.
- Engine run time is greater than 2 seconds.
- Ignition on for 2 seconds.
- MAF sensor is less than 1280 Hz.
