Preparation
- After the repair or replacement transmission is installed in the vehicle, DO NOT reconnect the oil cooler pipes.
- Remove the fill cap (9) on the Transmission Oil Cooler and Line Flusher (J-35944-A) and fill the flusher tank (4) with 20-21 oz. (0.6L) of flushing solution using the measuring cup (6). DO NOT overfill.
- Install the fill cap (9) on the flusher and pressurize the flusher tank (4) to 80-100 psi (550-700 kPa), using the shop air supply at the tank air valve (9). (Scheme 226)
- With the water supply valve (1) on the flusher in the OFF position, connect the water supply hose (7) from the flusher to the water supply at the faucet. (Scheme 226)and (Scheme 227).
- Turn ON the water supply at the faucet.

ON-VEHICLE REPAIRS
Note. Various components may be serviced without transmission removal, depending on application. For servicing of these components, see appropriate component under ADJUSTMENTS and/or REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . For additional information on testing electrical components, see appropriate DIAGNOSIS article.
PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH
Note. Apply the Park brake. The engine must start in the Park (P) or Neutral (N) positions only. Check the Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch for proper operation.
- Place the transmission range selector in the Neutral (N) position.
- With an assistant in the drivers seat, raise and suitably support the vehicle.
- Loosen the PNP switch bolts.
- With the vehicle in the Neutral (N) position, rotate the switch while the assistant attempts to start the engine.
- Following a successful start, turn the engine OFF.
- Tighten the PNP switch bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-154009-S29611689822003050100000) .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Check the PNP switch for proper operation. The engine must start in the Park (P) or Neutral (N) positions only.
- Replace the PNP switch if proper operation can not be achieved. See «PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH»(ref-154009-S04048200382003050100000) .
SHIFT CABLE
- Ensure the steering column shift lever and the transmission manual shaft lever are in the Park (P) position.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
- With right hand, push the flange (3) of the cable (transmission end) (5), inside the cable (1) (shifter end) until the connection is made, ensuring the flange ribs (7) align with the cable (shifter end) (1) slots (2). (Scheme 228)
- Hold the red security ring (6) with left hand and with right hand, twist the blue rotating lock (4) until it snaps into position.
- With left hand, push the red security ring (1) to the right. (Scheme 229)
