Programming and Setup - All Systems: Removal & Installation Chevrolet Malibu VI facelift

Communication Interface Module Replacement

If the OnStar® communication interface module is replaced, the setup procedure needs to be performed. Please refer to OnStar Reconfiguration .

Radio Replacement

If the digital radio receiver is replaced, the following procedure must be performed

Perform the digital radio receiver setup. Refer to Digital Radio Receiver Setup in Entertainment.

EBCM Replacement

If the electronic brake control module (EBCM) is replaced it must be programmed. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) .

ECM Replacement

If the engine control module (ECM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed

  1. ECM Reprogramming-Refer to «Service Programming System (SPS)»(ref-269146-S32826756042007102900000) .
  2. The CKP System Variation Learn-Refer to the following: «Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn»(ref-269126-S22759017982007102900000) for the 2.2L engine «Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn»(ref-269158-S01891006962007102900000) for the 3.5L engine «Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn»(ref-269159-S36854969962007102900000) for the 3.9L engine
  3. Engine Oil Life Remaining-When available, use a scan tool to reset the Engine Oil Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was replaced.
  4. Transmission Fluid Life Remaining-When available, use the scan tool to reset the Transmission Fluid Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was replaced.
  5. Theft Deterrent. Refer to «Programming Theft Deterrent System Components (Canadian)»(ref-269163-S25265370352007102900000) or «Programming Theft Deterrent System Components (Domestic)»(ref-269163-S38868158082007102900000) .

Setup for Component Replacement

The replacement of some components will require a setup procedure for complete repair.

If any of the following components are replaced, the CKP Variation Learn Procedure must be performed

  1. Engine replacement
  2. Any engine repair that disturbs the CKP sensor or its relationship with the crankshaft reluctor wheel
  3. CKP sensor

Refer to the following

  2. «Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn»(ref-269126-S22759017982007102900000) for the 3.5L engine
  3. «Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn»(ref-269126-S22759017982007102900000) for the 3.9L engine

If the radio is replaced, the new radio must have the setup procedure performed. Refer to Radio Setup .

Sunroof Motor/Actuator Replacement

If the sunroof motor/actuator is replaced, the initialization procedure must be performed in the following order

  1. Place the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Press and hold the sunroof switch to the OPEN position until the glass panel stalls at the rear hard stop in the fully open position, and then moves back to the soft stop position.
  3. Release the sunroof switch.
  4. Within 6 seconds, press and hold the switch button again to the OPEN position. After 3 more seconds, the sunroof window will move toward the CLOSE position. Continue holding the switch until the sunroof window stops at the closed position.
  5. Release the sunroof switch.
  6. Verify sunroof operation. Refer to «Sunroof Description and Operation»(ref-269130-S40930598252007102900000) in Roof.

The initialization procedure is not complete if one of the following actions occurs before the procedure is complete

  1. The sunroof switch is not held in the OPEN position.
  2. The ignition switch is turned to the OFF position.
  3. Battery positive voltage is removed.
  4. The glass panel did not reach the fully closed position.
