Diagnostic Starting Point - Adjustable Pedals
Begin the system diagnosis with Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information. The Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle will provide the following information
- The identification of the control modules which command the system
- The ability of the control modules to communicate through the serial data circuit
- The identification of any stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and their status
The use of the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.

Circuit Description
The adjustable pedal system will be disabled by the adjustable pedal module anytime the transmission selector lever is not in the park position while the ignition is on. This feature is controlled by the body control module (BCM) through the adjustable pedal inhibit circuit. While the system is being disabled the BCM supplies battery voltage to the adjustable pedal module through the adjustable pedal inhibit circuit. When the adjustable pedal system is enabled by the body control module the adjustable pedal inhibit circuit will be at 0 volts.

Adjustable Pedals System Operation
The adjustable pedal system is controlled by the adjustable pedal switch and enabled by the adjustable pedal module so that operation can occur only while the transmission selector lever is in the park position. The adjustable pedals are moved forward or backward by a motor which is fixed to the accelerator pedal actuator with a drive cable to the brake pedal actuator. The adjuster motor is controlled by the adjustable pedal switch through 2 motor control circuits. Battery voltage is supplied to the switch form the PEDAL 10-Amp fuse in the I/P BEC. In an inactive state both of the switch contacts are closed to the ground contacts within the switch. When the switch is activated in the forward or rearward direction the appropriate switch contact is closed to the battery voltage supply contact within the switch. The adjuster motor is bidirectional and the direction of the pedal assembly travel is determined by which of the motor control circuits is switched to battery voltage while the other remains grounded.
The adjustable pedal switch is grounded through the adjustable pedal module and system operation is enabled or disabled by the module by opening or closing the switch ground circuit. The adjustable pedal module monitors the movement of the brake pedal assembly while the adjuster motor is in an active state in order to ensure that both pedal assemblies are moving and a step over condition is not being created. If at any time the system is attempted to be operated and no movement of the brake pedal assembly is detected the system will be disabled. Once the system has been disabled by the adjustable pedal module and the necessary repairs have been completed the PEDAL 10-Amp fuse must be removed for several seconds in order to reset the module and allow for normal operation to occur. The adjustable brake pedal position sensor is a potentiometer type position sensor and is supplied with a 5-volt reference and low reference from the module, and the position sensor signal circuit is referenced from 5 volts within the module.
