Programming and Setup - All Systems: Removal & Installation Chevrolet HHR I

Communication Interface Module Replacement

IMPORTANTThe communication interface module (CIM) has a specific set of unique numbers that tie the module to a specific vehicle. These numbers, a 10-digit station identification (STID), and an 11-digit electronic serial number (ESN) or an 18 digit manufacturers electronic ID (MEID), are used by OnStar® and the cellular network to identify the specific vehicle. Because these numbers are exclusive to the vehicle identification number of the vehicle, these parts should NOT be exchanged with those of another vehicle. After replacing the CIM, it is essential to reconfigure the OnStar® system. Failure to reconfigure the system will result in an additional customer visit for repair. DO NOT press and hold the white dot button on the keypad as it will not reset this version of the OnStar® system and may result in a DTC to be set, a red LED and limited or incomplete OnStar® services. Use of the TIS 2 Web SPS application and the Tech 2 are required in order to perform the CIM configuration and setup procedure for this vehicle. The configuration and set-up procedure is now a two step process which enables an automated activation by the OnStar Center, without a button press by the technician to the center. It may take up to 24 hours for the OnStar® service to become fully activated after performing the TIS 2 Web and Tech 2 setup procedures. Perform the OnStar® Activation procedure only once. Repeat attempts at performing the procedure may result in a delay of the activation process. The Tech 2 setup procedure must begin immediately upon completion of programming. Any delay between the procedures may result in incomplete setup or activation of the CIM.
  1. Connect the Tech 2 to the vehicle.
  2. Connect the Techline Information System (TIS) terminal to the Tech 2.
  3. Select the OnStar® Activation programming option using the service programming system (SPS).
  4. Upon completion of the OnStar® Activation programming event, disconnect the TIS terminal from the Tech 2 and perform the CIM/OnStar Set-up Procedure using the Tech 2. The set up procedure is located under the special function menu option.
  5. The default language for the new CIM is English. Changing the language capability to French or Spanish is supported by service programming system (SPS) and by Tech 2 special functions. Changing the language capability is also dependent on the generation of the replacement OnStar module.

Inform the customer that it may take up to 24 hours for the OnStar® service to become fully activated after performing the TIS 2 Web and Tech 2 setup procedures.

Radio Replacement

If the digital radio receiver is replaced, the following procedure must be performed

Perform the digital radio receiver setup. Refer to Digital Radio Receiver Setup .

EBCM Replacement

If the electronic brake control module (EBCM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed

EBCM Reprogramming-Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) .

Setup for Component Replacement

The replacement of ABS components will not require a setup procedure for complete repair.

ECM Replacement

If the engine control module (ECM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed

  1. ECM Reprogramming-Refer to «Service Programming System (SPS)»(ref-299597-S24184079232008092400000) .
  2. Crankshaft Position (CKP) Variation Learn-Refer to «Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn»(ref-299614-S38927298462008092400000) .

The replacement of some components will require a setup procedure for complete repair.

If any of the following components are replaced, a CKP Variation Learn Procedure must be performed. Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn .

  1. Engine replacement
  2. Any engine repair that disturbs the CKP sensor or it's relationship with the crankshaft reluctor wheel
  3. CKP sensor

Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) Replacement and Setup

IMPORTANTThe power steering control module (PSCM) is serviced separately from the steering column assembly. If the power steering control module (PSCM) is replaced, the Steering Position/Torque Sensor Calibration must be performed.

If the radio is replaced, the new radio must have the setup procedure performed. Refer to Radio Setup .

Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement-Copy and Paste TPM Information

This procedure will learn the TPM information to the new RCDLR using the Copy and Paste function on the scan tool. The procedure will extract the TPM Tire Type information as well as the sensor data from the existing RCDLR prior to its replacement and store this information in the scan tool. After RCDLR replacement, the tire type and sensor data stored in the scan tool is written to the new RCDLR, negating the need to perform the tire type setup and sensor learn procedure.

This procedure should be considered as the first programming choice when replacing an RCDLR. The Copy and Paste procedure eliminates the possibility of incorrectly inputting the tire type or learning stray TPM sensors.

  1. Using a scan tool, navigate to the Copy and Paste TPM Information procedure and copy the existing TPM information from the RCDLR using the outline below. Follow the on-screen instructions after selecting Step 1: Vehicle Control Systems Module Setup Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Copy and Paste TPM Information Step 1
  2. At this point, install the new RCDLR.
  3. Using a scan tool, navigate to the Copy and Paste TPM Information procedure to paste the stored TPM information using the outline below. Follow the on-screen instructions after selecting Step 2: Vehicle Control Systems Module Setup Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Copy and Paste TPM Information Step 2
  4. Program the keyless entry transmitters. Refer to «Transmitter Programming»(ref-299602-S18703517682008092400000) .
  5. Setup the new RCDLR: Select Remote Control Door Lock Receiver under Module Setup in the scan tool Vehicle Control System menu. Select Setup New RCDLR. Follow the on-sceen instructions.

Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement-TPM Sensor Learn

This procedure will learn TPM information to the new RCDLR by manually inputting the tire type using the scan tool and performing the TPM sensor learn. This procedure should be performed if the above Copy and Paste procedure can not be completed. An example of this would be an RCDLR that is unable to communicate with the scan tool and is required to be replaced.

  1. Program the keyless entry transmitters. Refer to «Transmitter Programming»(ref-299602-S18703517682008092400000) .
  2. Setup the new RCDLR: Select Remote Control Door Lock Receiver under Module Setup in the scan tool Vehicle Control System menu. Select Setup New RCDLR. Follow the on-sceen instructions.
  3. Tire Type Setup: Install a scan tool. Select Remote Control Door Lock Receiver under Module Setup in the Vehicle Control System menu. Select Tire Type/Pressure Selection. Follow the on-sceen instructions.
  4. Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensor Learn-Refer to «Tire Pressure Sensor Learn»(ref-299619-S40613959532008092400000) .
