Audio Amplifier Programming and Setup

There is no setup procedure that needs to be performed for the amplifier on this vehicle.

Body Control Module Programming and Setup

A new body control module (BCM) must be programmed with the proper regular production option (RPO) configurations. The BCM stores the information regarding the vehicle options and if the BCM is not properly configured with the correct RPO codes the BCM will not control all of the features properly. The Tech 2 software will automatically prompt you with the various RPO's available for the vehicle. Ensure that the following conditions exist in order to prepare for BCM programming

  1. This entire procedure has been reviewed before starting
  2. The battery is fully charged.
  3. A CANdi module is installed between the vehicle and the scan tool.
  4. The ignition switch is in the ON position.
  5. The data link connector (DLC) is accessible.
  6. All disconnected modules and devices are reconnected before programming.

BCM Programming

IMPORTANTUse extreme care when verifying both the VIN and Odometer reading that is set in the service BCM. Once the VIN and Odometer are set in the replacement BCM it is impossible to change them, and if there is a mismatch, the part will be rendered useless.

To setup a new replacement BCM select Vehicle Control Systems, then navigate to Computer/Integrating Systems, once in the Computer/Integrating Systems menu select Module Replacement/Setup and follow the instructions on the scan tool.

If the BCM fails to accept the program, perform the following steps

  1. Inspect all BCM connections.
  2. Verify that the scan tool has the latest software version.

SDM Part Number Learn Procedure

If the SDM is replaced the SDM part number must be learned by the BCM. Using a scan tool navigate to Vehicle Control Systems, Module Setup, Supplemental Inflatable Restraints then select Setup SDM Part Number In BCM. Follow the on screen directions.

IMPORTANTAfter programming, perform the following to avoid future misdiagnosis
  1. Turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds.
  2. Connect the scan tool to the data link connector.
  3. Turn the ignition ON with the engine OFF.
  4. Use the scan tool in order to retrieve history DTCs from all modules.
  5. Clear all history DTCs.

Communication Interface Module Programming and Setup

Each of the following service procedures require programming or setup procedures to be performed on the communication interface module.

Digital Radio Receiver Programming and Setup

Each of the following service procedures require programming or setup procedures to be performed on the digital radio receiver.

EBCM Reprogramming

If the EBCM needs to be reprogrammed, refer to Service Programming System (SPS) .

Engine Control Module Programming and Setup

The following service procedures require either a programming or a setup event be performed for a complete repair.

ECM Reprogramming

If the ECM needs to be reprogrammed, refer to Service Programming System (SPS) .

Instrument Cluster Programming and Setup

This device requires no programming or setup.

Passenger Presence System Programming and Setup

IMPORTANTBefore rezeroing the passenger presence system (PPS), the front passenger seat must be completely empty of all items. The presence of any items on the front passenger seat will affect the calibration and operation of the PPS. When rezeroing the PPS, the instrument panel cluster (IPC) and dash lights will begin dimming ON and OFF. This is normal operation during the rezeroing procedure and does not indicate additional system faults.

If the PPS is replaced or serviced, perform the rezeroing procedure for the PPS. Refer to Passenger Presence System Rezeroing for the rezeroing procedure.

Power Steering Control Module Programming and Setup (Non-Turbo)

This device requires no programming or setup.

Radio Programming and Setup

Each of the following service procedures require programming or setup procedures to be performed on the radio.

Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Programming and Setup

IMPORTANTWhen replacing the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR), the tire pressure monitoring (TPM) information can be learned to the new RCDLR in one of two ways. These two methods are reflected in the selections below. Only choose one of the methods; it is not required to do both methods when replacing the RCDLR. If you choose to perform the Copy and Paste TPM Information procedure, Step 1 must be performed BEFORE removing the old RCDLR. This procedure requires that specific TPM information be extracted from the old RCDLR prior to its removal.

Service Programming System (SPS)

For step-by-step programming instructions, please refer to the techline information system (TIS) terminal.

Review the information below to ensure proper programming protocol.

IMPORTANTDO NOT program a control module unless you are directed by a service procedure or you are directed by a General Motors Corporation service bulletin. Programming a control module at any other time will not permanently correct a customers concern. It is essential that the Tech 2 and the TIS terminal are both equipped with the latest software before performing service programming system (SPS). Due to the time requirements of programming a controller, it is recommended that an external power source be used to maintain system voltage. Stable battery voltage is critical during programming. Any fluctuation, spiking, over voltage or loss of voltage will interrupt programming. To ensure trouble-free programming, GM recommends using one of the following external power sources: A Midtronic PCS charger A fully charged 12V jumper or booster pack disconnected from the AC voltage supply Some modules will require additional programming/setup events performed before or after programming. Some vehicles may require the use of a CANDi module for programming. Review the appropriate service information for these procedures. DTCs may set during programming. Clear DTCs after programming is complete. Clearing powertrain DTCs will set the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) system status indicators to NO.

Ensure the following conditions are met before programming a control module

  1. FlexFuel (E85) Vehicles The fuel composition learn function is inactive. Programming with the fuel composition learn active will result in fuel trim DTCs. If necessary, drive the vehicle until the scan tool indicates that the fuel composition learn is inactive.
  2. Vehicle system voltage There is not a charging system concern. All charging system concerns must be repaired before programming a control module. Battery voltage is greater than 12 volts but less than 16 volts. The battery must be fully charged before programming the control module. Turn OFF or disable any system that may put a load on the vehicles battery, such as the following components: Twilight sentinel Interior lights Daytime running lights (DRL)-Applying the parking brake, on most vehicles, disables the DRL system Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems Engine cooling fans, radio, etc.
  3. The ignition switch must be in the proper position. The Tech 2 prompts you to turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. DO NOT change the position of the ignition switch during the programming procedure, unless instructed to do so.
  4. Make certain all tool connections are secure, including the following components and circuits: The RS-232 communication cable port The connection at the data link connector (DLC) The voltage supply circuits
  5. DO NOT disturb the tool harnesses while programming. If an interruption occurs during the programming procedure, programming failure or control module damage may occur.
  6. DO NOT turn OFF the ignition if the programming procedure is interrupted or unsuccessful. Ensure that all control module and DLC connections are secure and the TIS terminal operating software is up to date. Attempt to reprogram the control module. If the control module cannot be programmed, replace the control module.

Set Up a Theft Deterrent Module (TDM) Using Existing Keys

IMPORTANTUse this procedure only if replacing the theft deterrent module (TDM) using the existing vehicle keys. Because of how vehicle key information and theft deterrent passwords are stored within the TDM, the Set Up a New Theft Deterrent Module procedure must be performed prior to the removal and replacement of the TDM if the vehicle keys are being reused. Performing the setup procedure first allows the scan tool to extract the key information and passwords from the old TDM prior to its removal. Failure to perform this step will result in the failure to learn the existing vehicle keys and new vehicle keys will be required when replacing the TDM. Do not use the scan tool for any other programming operations while performing this procedure. Doing so will erase the stored data retrieved from the original TDM and cause the set-up to fail.
  1. Connect a scan tool to the vehicle in the pass-thru arrangement.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Ensure that all power consuming devices are turned OFF on the vehicle.
  4. On the Techline Terminal, select Service Programming System and follow the Techline Terminal on-screen instructions, using the Legacy Pass-Thru method. Ensure the correct programming selection is chosen based on component being replaced or programmed. For this procedure, go to the V.T.D. Vehicle Theft Deterrent Learn menu and choose the Prepare Module For TDM Setup Procedure selection.
  5. At this point the scan tool must remain connected for the duration of the 10-minute relearn procedure.
  6. Observe the scan tool, after approximately 10 minutes the scan tool will display "Programming Successful, Turn OFF Ignition".
  7. With a scan tool, select Theft Deterrent Module in the Vehicle Control Systems Module Setup data list.
  8. Select Step 1.
  9. Select Use Existing Keys.
  10. Follow the scan tool on-screen instructions. The scan tool will then display Replace Module Per Service Manual. At this time, replace the TDM.
  11. After the new TDM has been installed, using the scan tool, select Step 2 and follow the on-screen instructions.

Programming Immobilizer System Components

After the TDM has been set up using the above procedure, the ECM and TDM must learn the new fuel continue password. To learn the new password, perform the Immobilizer System Component Programming procedure.

Set Up a Theft Deterrent Module (TDM) Using New Keys

IMPORTANTUse this procedure only if replacing the TDM using new vehicle keys. The TDM must be replaced prior to beginning this procedure.

With Scan Tool

  1. Connect a scan tool to the vehicle.
  2. With a new, unlearned, vehicle key, turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, select Theft Deterrent Module in the Vehicle Control Systems Module Setup data list.
  4. Select Step 1.
  5. Select Use New Keys.
  6. Follow the scan tool on-screen instructions.

Without Scan Tool

  1. With a new, unlearned, vehicle key, turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Observe the security indicator. After approximately 10 minutes, the telltale will turn OFF.
  3. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times for a total of 3 cycles or 30 minutes.
  5. Start the vehicle. The ECM has learned the fuel continue password.
  6. If additional keys are required to be learned, refer to «Adding Keys»(ref-299617-S21787782792008092400000) .

After the TDM has been set up using one of the above procedure, the ECM and TDM must learn the new fuel continue password. To learn the new password, perform the Immobilizer System Component Programming procedure.

IMPORTANTUse this procedure only if replacing the theft deterrent module (TDM) using the existing vehicle keys. Because of how vehicle key information and theft deterrent passwords are stored within the TDM, the Set Up a New Theft Deterrent Module procedure must be performed prior to the removal and replacement of the TDM if the vehicle keys are being reused.   6. Follow the scan tool on-screen instructions.

After the TDM has been set up using the above procedure, the ECM and TDM must learn the new fuel continue password. To learn the new password, perform the Immobilizer System Component Programming procedure.

Transmission Control Module Programming and Setup

  1. The transmission control module (TCM) must be programmed with the proper software/calibrations. Ensure that the following conditions exist in order to prepare for TCM programming: The battery is fully charged. The ignition switch is in the RUN position. The Techline equipment cable connection at the data link connector (DLC) is secure.
  2. Program the TCM using the latest software matching the vehicle. Refer to up-to-date Techline equipment user instructions.
  3. If the TCM fails to program, proceed as follows: Ensure that the TCM connection is OK. Inspect the Techline equipment for the latest software version. Attempt to program the TCM. If the TCM still cannot be programmed properly, replace the TCM.
