DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX

Diagnostic Starting Point - Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control

Begin the system diagnosis with the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle . The Diagnostic System Check will provide the following information

  1. The identification of the control modules which command the system
  2. The ability of the control modules to communicate through the serial data circuit
  3. The identification of any stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and their status

The use of the Diagnostic System Check will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.

Diagnostic Instructions

  1. Perform the «Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/oem-general-information/#vehicle-diagnostic-information) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
  2. Review «Strategy Based Diagnosis»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/oem-general-information/#vehicle-diagnostic-information__strategy-based-diagnosis) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.

Circuit/System Description

The remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) controls the automatic transmission shift lock solenoid by providing a ground for the solenoid. The RCDLR utilizes a smart driver to control the ground to the automatic transmission shift lock solenoid. The smart driver monitors the voltage and current flow of the control circuit.

Conditions for Running the DTC

  1. The ignition switch is in the ON position.
  2. The brake pedal is pressed.
  3. The transmission is in the PARK position.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The RCDLR will set the code if the voltage level at the shift lock control output is greater than 8 volts for more than 0.375 seconds while the output is active.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The RCDLR will not attempt to ground the control circuit of the automatic transmission shift lock solenoid until the next key cycle.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

  1. A current DTC will clear when the malfunction is no longer present and the ignition switch is cycled.
  2. All RCDLR history codes will clear after 100 ignition cycles with no current codes active during the 100 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition ON, Clear the DTC. Observe the scan tool RCDLR Shift Lock Solenoid Command parameter. The parameter should change from UNLOCK to LOCK when the brake pedal is depressed and released. If the parameter does not change, refer to «Stop Lamps Malfunction»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/exterior-lights/#lighting-systems__stop-lamps-malfunction) .
  2. Press the brake pedal, the vehicle operator should be able to move the shifter lever out of the PARK position.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the shift lock control solenoid.
  2. Ignition ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 5 and ground. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the shift lock control solenoid.
  3. Install a test lamp between the B+ circuit terminal 5 and control circuit terminal 8.
  4. Ignition ON, depress and release the brake pedal several times. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF as commanded. If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RCDLR. If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for an open/high resistance or short to voltage. If the circuit test normal, replace the RCDLR.
  5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the shift lock control solenoid.

Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Description and Operation

The automatic transmission shift lock control system is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the engine is running. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the shift lever out of the PARK position. The system consists of the following components

  1. The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid
  2. The remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR)
  3. The transmission control module (TCM)

With the ignition in the ON position, battery positive voltage is supplied to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid located within the shift lever assembly. The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid receives a ground from the RCDLR. The RCDLR receives input thought data communications from the TCM indicating transmission gear position and brake pedal position. With the shift lever in the PARK position the internal park switch of the shift lever assembly closes allowing current to flow to the RCDLR. When the RCDLR receives a data communication that the brake pedal is depressed and the transmission is in the PARK position the RCDLR supplies a ground the shift lock control solenoid control circuit. This energizes the solenoid and allows the shift lever to be moved out of the PARK position. With the shift lever out of the PARK position the internal park switch in the shift lever assemble opens, this de-energies the shift lock control solenoid.
