Scheme 3: Removal Procedure
  1. Apply the tape to the area around the emblem/nameplate.
  2. Using J 25070 heat the emblem/nameplate. See «Special Tools»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim__special-tools) . Apply the heat using a circular motion for about 30 seconds holding the heat gun 152 mm (6 in) from the surface.
  3. Remove the emblem/nameplate from the surface using a small plastic flat-bladed tool, being careful not to damage the paint.
  4. When replacing a emblem/nameplate, remove all adhesive as follows: For body panels, use a 3M™ Scotch Brite molding adhesive remover disk 3M™ P/N 07502 or equivalent. For plastic panels, use a lint-free cloth and Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) naphtha or a 50/50 mixture by volume of isopropyl alcohol and water to remove the adhesive.

Installation Procedure

  1. Ensure the area where the emblem/nameplate will be installed is clean and dry.
  2. If the location of the emblem/nameplate has not been marked, apply tape and use the following dimensions: a - 130 mm (5.12 in) from the horizontal edge of the liftgate b - 80 mm (3.12 in) from the vertical edge of the liftgate c - Export unit only - 12 mm (0.5 in) from the bottom edge of the "SRX" emblem
  3. If the location of the emblem has not been marked, apply tape and use the following dimensions: a - 5 mm (0.2 in) from the horizontal top edge of the liftgate applique b - 23 mm (0.9 in) from the horizontal top edge of the liftgate applique
  4. Using J 25070 if necessary, heat the mounting surface to approximately 27-41°C (80-105°F). See «Special Tools»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim__special-tools) .
  5. Ensure that the temperature of the emblem/nameplate is approximately 29-32°C (85-90°F).
  6. Remove the protective liner from the back of the emblem/nameplate.
  7. Position the emblem/nameplate to the location marks and press the emblem/nameplate to the mounting surface.
  8. Apply equal pressure along the emblem/nameplate to uniformly bond the item to the mounting surface.
  9. Inspect the emblem/nameplate for bonding. Hand roll loose ends.
  10. Remove the tape from the mounting surface.

Removal Procedure

  1. Heat the loose emblem using the J 25070 in order to remove the loose emblem. See «Special Tools»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim__special-tools) .
  2. Hold the heat gun approximately 152 mm (6 in) from the emblem surface.
  3. Apply the heat using a circular motion until the emblem can be pulled from the grille.
  4. Remove either the loose wreath (2) or crest (1) from the grille.
  5. Remove the old emblem adhesive, using a plastic flat-bladed tool.
  6. Remove all adhesive from the grille using 3M® P/N 07501 or equivalent.
  7. Wash the area with warm soap and water.
  8. Dry the area with a lint-free cloth.
  1. Wipe the area with a clean lint-free cloth using a solution of isopropyl alcohol and water 50/50 mixture by volume.
  2. Peel the backing from the adhesive tape.
  3. Align the pins on the backside of the emblem (1, 2) with the holes located in the grille (3).
  4. Firmly press the emblem into place for 30 seconds in order to ensure proper adhesion of the emblem.
  1. Remove the front bumper fascia. Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) in Bumpers.
  2. Remove the push-in retainers that hold the grille to the fascia.
  3. Disengage the clips from the fascia at the bottom of the grille.
  4. Remove the grille from the fascia.
  1. Position the grille to the fascia, using the clips as guides to the pilot holes in the fascia.
  2. Install the push-in retainers that hold the grille to the fascia.
  3. Install the fascia to the vehicle. Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) in Bumpers.
  1. Raise the hood.
  2. Disengage the hood molding clips from the hood.
  3. Remove the hood molding from the hood.
  1. Position the hood molding to the hood using the clips as guides to the pilot holes in the hood.
  2. Push the hood molding inward to secure the clips
  3. Close the hood.

1Molding Retainer Nuts (Qty: 3) Tighten: 10 N.m (89 lb in)
2Retainer Tab Tip: Remove the tab prior to removing the exterior lower molding.
3Double Sided Adhesive Molding Tape Clean all tape residue from the exterior door panel prior to installing the new lower door molding. The new molding must be at least 66°F prior to installing the molding to the body panel. Close the front door. Remove all 3 protective liners from the adhesive tape. Be careful not to touch the adhesive tape with hands or allow molding to come in contact with any dirt or foreign material prior to adhesion. Align the 13 retainer clips to the holes in the door. Apply hand pressure to secure the 13 molding retainer clips to the door.
4Retainer Clips (Qty: 13) Tip: Pull the molding from the rear edge carefully in order to disengage the retainer clips and remove.
5Front Side Door Lower Molding Tip: Ensure the front door is in the closed position when installing the new lower door molding.

1Molding Retainer Nuts (Qty: 2) Tighten: 10 N.m (89 lb in)
2Retainer Tab Tip: Remove the tab prior to removing the exterior lower rear door molding.
3Double Sided Adhesive Molding Tape Clean all tape residue from the exterior door panel prior to installing the new lower door molding. The new molding must be at least 66°F prior to installing the molding to the body panel. Close the rear door. Remove all three protective liners from the adhesive tape. Be careful not to touch the adhesive tape with hands or allow molding to come in contact with any dirt or foreign material prior to adhesion. Align the 9 retainer clips to the holes in the door. Apply hand pressure to secure the 9 molding retainer clips to the door.
4Retainer Clips (Qty: 9) Tip: Pull the molding from the rear edge carefully in order to disengage the retainer clips and remove.
5Rear Side Door Lower Molding Tip: Ensure the rear door is in the closed position when installing the new lower door molding.

Molding Replacement - Rear Side Door Lower

  1. Open the front and rear doors.
  2. Remove the front section of the rocker panel.
  3. Remove the screw attached to the front wheel liner.
  4. Pull the bottom edge of the front rocker panel molding away from the rocker panel in order to disengage the retainers.
  5. Use a flat-bladed tool and gently separate the front of the rocker panel molding from the upper retainer clips.
  6. Carefully remove the front rocker panel molding from the body.
  7. Remove the rear section of the rocker panel.
  8. Remove the two screws attached to the rear wheel liner.
  9. Pull the back edge of the rear rocker panel molding away from the center rocker panel molding in order to disengage the clips attached to the center rocker panel molding.
  10. Use a flat-bladed tool and gently separate the rear of the rocker panel molding from the center rocker panel molding.
  11. Carefully remove the rear rocker panel molding from the body.
  12. Remove the center section of the rocker panel molding.
  13. Pull the bottom edge of the rocker panel molding away from the rocker panel in order to disengage the retainers.
  14. Use a flat-bladed tool to gently separate the rocker panel molding from the upper retainer clips.
  15. Carefully remove the center rocker panel molding from the body.
  16. Remove the lower retainers by using a pair of needle nose pliers. Pinch the tabs on the clip together and pull away from the vehicle to disengage.
  17. Remove the lower retainers from the rocker panel.
  1. Install the lower retainers on the rocker panel.
  2. Install all new retainers into the front and center moldings.
  3. Position the front rocker panel molding to the body.
  4. Press the upper retainers into the rocker panel in order to secure the molding.
  5. Secure the molding to the lower plastic retainer.
  6. Press the molding inward in order to secure.
  7. Secure the screw to the front wheel liner.
  8. Position the center rocker panel molding to the body.
  9. Press the upper retainers into the rocker panel in order to secure the molding.
  10. Secure the molding to the lower plastic retainers.
  11. Press the molding inward in order to secure.
  12. Secure the rear rocker panel molding to the center molding.
  13. Secure the screws to the rear wheel liner.
  14. Close the front and rear doors.
  1. Remove the luggage carrier assembly. Refer to «Luggage Carrier Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/sun-rooft-topconvertible-top/#power-roof-system) .
  2. Starting at the rear glass, carefully remove the finish molding from the roof ditch.
  3. Remove the roof panel joint reveal molding.
  4. Clean excessive tape residue from the roof ditch with a 50/50 mixture by volume of isopropyl alcohol and water.
  5. Wipe dry the roof ditch with a clean lint-free cloth.
  1. Ensure that the body and part temperature is above 19°C (66°F).
  2. Align the reveal molding slots over the studs and over the tabs for the retainer clips in the roof ditch.
  3. Peel approximately 3 inches of the tape backing from the reveal molding.
  4. Begin at the front of the vehicle, position the molding into the roof ditch.
  5. Working rearward, remove the tape backing while pressing the reveal molding into the roof ditch.
  6. Secure the finish molding from front to rear in the roof ditch.
  7. Install the luggage carrier assembly. Refer to «Luggage Carrier Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/sun-rooft-topconvertible-top/#power-roof-system) .
