NOTE: When removing the instrument panel lower trim panel insulator for any reason, it is required that the connector to the HVAC module be disconnected. If the vehicle battery has NOT been disconnected, when reinstalling / reconnecting the module, the BROWN J2 connector must be connected last. Once all the parts are all in place, check and clear all DTCs in the HVAC module.

NOTE
When removing the instrument panel lower trim panel insulator for any reason, it is required that the connector to the HVAC module be disconnected. If the vehicle battery has NOT been disconnected, when reinstalling / reconnecting the module, the BROWN J2 connector must be connected last. Once all the parts are all in place, check and clear all DTCs in the HVAC module.

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the windshield garnish molding. Refer to «Windshield Garnish Molding Replacement»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-interior-paneling) .
  2. Remove the radio control assembly. Refer to «Radio Control Assembly Replacement»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/entertainment-systems/#cellular-system-entertainment-system-and-navigation-system) .
  3. Remove the instrument panel extension. Refer to «Instrument Panel Extension Replacement»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) .
  4. Remove the instrument panel compartment. Refer to «Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) .
  5. Remove the bolts (1) securing the top of the instrument panel upper trim panel to the instrument panel carrier.
  6. Remove the bolts (1) securing the instrument panel inflatable restraint module bracket to the instrument panel tie bar.
  7. Remove the bolts (1) securing the top of the instrument panel upper trim panel to the instrument panel carrier.
  8. Remove the instrument panel upper trim panel (1) secured by retainers to the instrument panel carrier.
  9. Transfer components as necessary.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the instrument panel upper trim panel (1) secured by 11 retainers to the instrument panel carrier.
  2. Install the bolts (1) securing the top of the instrument panel upper trim panel to the instrument panel carrier.
  3. Install the bolts (1) securing the instrument panel inflatable restraint module bracket to the instrument panel tie bar and tighten to 9 (80 lb in).
  4. Install the bolts (1) securing the top of the instrument panel upper trim panel to the instrument panel carrier.
  5. Install the instrument panel compartment. Refer to «Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) .
  6. Install the instrument panel extension. Refer to «Instrument Panel Extension Replacement»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) .
  7. Install the radio control assembly. Refer to «Radio Control Assembly Replacement»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/entertainment-systems/#cellular-system-entertainment-system-and-navigation-system) .
  8. Install the windshield garnish molding. Refer to «Windshield Garnish Molding Replacement»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-interior-paneling) .

  6. Remove the left instrument panel trim plate applique. Refer to «Instrument Panel Trim Plate Applique Replacement - Left Side»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) .
  7. Remove the instrument panel center trim plate applique. Refer to «Instrument Panel Center Trim Plate Applique Replacement»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) .
  8. Remove the bolts (1) securing the top of the instrument panel upper trim panel to the instrument panel carrier.
  9. Remove the instrument panel upper trim panel (1) secured by retainers to the instrument panel carrier.
  10. Transfer components as necessary.
  1. Install the instrument panel upper trim panel (1) secured by 6 retainers to the instrument panel carrier.
  2. Install the bolts (1) securing the top of the instrument panel upper trim panel to the instrument panel carrier.
  3. Install the instrument panel center trim plate applique. Refer to «Instrument Panel Center Trim Plate Applique Replacement»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) .

Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement

  1. Lift up on the instrument panel compartment door latch.
  2. Use a suitable tool and depress the retaining tumbler (1) through the access hole indicated.
  3. With the retaining tumbler (1) depressed, remove the instrument panel compartment door lock cylinder (2) from the instrument panel compartment door latch assembly.
  1. Position the instrument panel compartment door lock cylinder (2) to the opening in the compartment door latch, while depressing the retainer tumbler (1).
  2. Insert the instrument panel door lock cylinder (2) fully into the latch assembly.
  3. An audible click should be heard when the door lock cylinder (2) is fully seated into the latch assembly.
  4. Ensure proper operation of the instrument panel compartment door lock.

  13. Remove the radio front center speaker (2). Refer to «Radio Front Center Speaker Replacement»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/entertainment-systems/#cellular-system-entertainment-system-and-navigation-system) .
  14. Remove the instrument panel carrier bolts (1).
  15. Remove the instrument panel carrier bolts (1).
  16. Note the location and routing of the instrument panel electrical harness assembly, to ensure proper reinstallation.
  17. Disconnect the fasteners securing the instrument panel electrical harness assembly to the instrument panel carrier and position out of the way.
  18. With the aid of an assistant lift the instrument panel carrier (1) rearward and upward from the tie bar assembly.
  19. Remove the instrument panel carrier from the vehicle.
  1. With the aid of an assistant, load the instrument panel carrier (1) to the instrument panel tie bar.
  2. Reposition the instrument panel wiring harness into the vehicle position as was noted in the removal and connect the fasteners securing the instrument panel wiring harness to the instrument panel carrier (1).
  3. Install the instrument panel carrier bolts (1).
  4. Install the instrument panel carrier bolts (1).
  5. Install the radio front center speaker (2). Refer to «Radio Front Center Speaker Replacement»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/entertainment-systems/#cellular-system-entertainment-system-and-navigation-system) .
  6. Install the front floor console rear air duct (2). Refer to «Front Floor Console Rear Air Duct Replacement»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning) .
  7. Install the instrument panel center trim plate applique (2). Refer to «Instrument Panel Center Trim Plate Applique Replacement»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) .

  7. Remove the left and right side window defogger outlet ducts. Refer to «Side Window Defogger Outlet Duct Replacement - Left Side»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning) , and «Side Window Defogger Outlet Duct Replacement - Right Side»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning) .
  8. Remove the left and right air distributor ducts. Refer to «Air Distributor Duct Replacement - Left Side»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning) , and «Air Distributor Duct Replacement - Right Side»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning) .
  9. Remove the instrument panel tie bar brace bolts (1) from the dash and cowl panel.
  10. Remove the instrument panel tie bar bolts (1) from the body side outer frame access holes.
  11. Remove the instrument panel tie bar bolts (1) from the body side outer frame access holes.
  12. Loosen the fasteners of instrument panel fuse block (1) and remove from the instrument panel tie bar assembly and position out of the way.
  13. Remove the lower instrument panel tie bar bolts (1) from the instrument panel tie bar braces.
  14. Remove the bolts (1) securing the instrument panel tie bar assembly to the heater and air conditioning and blower module.
  15. Remove the upper instrument panel tie bar bolt (1) securing the instrument panel tie bar assembly to the instrument panel carrier support.
  16. Note the location and routing of the instrument panel wiring harness and unclip the harness and reposition from the tie bar.
  17. Support the HVAC module in order to prevent damage.
  18. Reposition the front floor carpet as necessary.
  19. With the aid of an assistant remove the instrument panel tie bar assembly (1) from the vehicle.
  1. With the aid of an assistant position the instrument panel tie bar assembly (1) into the vehicle and to the locator pins.
  2. Install the instrument panel wiring harness assembly to its in vehicle position as it was noted in the removal procedure.
  3. Install the upper instrument panel tie bar bolt (1) securing the instrument panel tie bar assembly to the instrument panel carrier support and tighten to 22 (16 lb ft).
  4. Install the bolts (1) securing the instrument panel tie bar assembly to the heater and air conditioning and blower module and tighten to 9 (80 lb in) .
  5. Install the lower instrument panel tie bar bolts (1) to the instrument panel tie bar braces and tighten to 22 (16 lb ft).
  6. Tighten the fasteners of instrument panel fuse block (1) to the instrument panel tie bar assembly.
  7. Install the instrument panel tie bar bolts (1) into the body side outer frame access holes and tighten to 22 (16 lb ft).
  8. Install the instrument panel tie bar bolts (1) into the body side outer frame access holes and tighten to 22 (16 lb ft).
  9. Install the instrument panel tie bar brace bolts (1) to the dash and cowl panel and tighten to 22 (16 lb ft).
  10. Install the left and right air distributor ducts. Refer to «Air Distributor Duct Replacement - Left Side»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning) , and «Air Distributor Duct Replacement - Right Side»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning) .
  11. Install the left and right side window defogger outlet ducts. Refer to «Side Window Defogger Outlet Duct Replacement - Left Side»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning) , and «Side Window Defogger Outlet Duct Replacement - Right Side»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning) .
  12. Install the front side doors. Refer to «Front Side Door Replacement»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#bolted-exterior-body-panels-and-closures) .

  17. Install the instrument panel carrier. Do not install the front floor console extension panel at this time. Refer to «Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) .
  18. Turn the AC on full cold, on hi blower for 10 minutes with the left side carpet pulled back to visually inspect for water leaks at the air conditioning evaporator and blower case drain bellow connection.
  19. If a leak is found, reposition and reseat the bellow and inspect for water leaks.
  20. Install the front floor console extension panel. Refer to «Front Floor Console Extension Panel Replacement - Right Side»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) , and «Front Floor Console Extension Panel Replacement - Left Side»(/cadillac/ats/i-2012-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) .
