Begin the system diagnosis with the Diagnostic System Check - Body Rear End . The Diagnostic System Check will provide the following information

  1. The identification of the control modules which command the system
  2. The ability of the control modules to communicate through the serial data circuit
  3. The identification of any stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and their status

The use of the Diagnostic System Check will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.

Test Description

The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.

  1. 2: Lack of communication may be due to a partial malfunction of the class 2 serial data circuit or due to a total malfunction of the class 2 serial data circuit. The specified procedure will determine the particular condition.
  2. 4: The presence of DTCs which begin with U indicate some other module is not communicating. The specified procedure will compile all the available information before tests are performed.

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List

Circuit Description

The liftgate release switch provides a ground input to the BCM when the switch is closed. This input allows the BCM to detect when a key release switch request is received.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The BCM detects a fault on the circuit for more than 60 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The BCM stores DTC B2732 in memory.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

  1. The BCM no longer detects a fault on the signal circuit for the liftgate release switch.
  2. A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles if the malfunction no longer exists.
  3. A scan tool can be used to clear history and current DTCs.

Diagnostic Aids

The cause of the malfunction could be intermittent. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections .

Rear Hatch/Gate Description and Operation (Aztek)

The lift glass can be opened by operating the switch on the instrument panel or rotating the key cylinder in the endgate. Battery voltage is supplied to the lift glass actuators through the body control module (BCM). The BCM will pulse the LH and RH lift glass actuators when a release input is received through the key fob, endgate key switch, or the instrument panel switch.

Rear Hatch/Gate Description and Operation (Rendezvous)

The liftgate can be opened by operating the switch on the instrument panel. Battery voltage is supplied to the liftgate actuator through the body control module (BCM). The BCM will pulse the liftgate actuator when a release input is received through the key fob, or the instrument panel switch.

Rear Hatch Ajar Indicator

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the rear hatch ajar indicator in the message center when the body control module (BCM) detects that either of the lift window latches are open. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the BCM requesting illumination. The IPC sends a class 2 message to the radio in order to activate an audible warning.
