Fastener Tightening Specifications

Scheme 93

1. The hood hinges are bolted to the fender and to the hood.
2. Make fore and aft adjustments by elongating the hood-side hinge holes.
3. Make vertical adjustment at the front by adjusting the hood bumpers up or down.
4. Gap tolerances are 2-6 mm (0.10-0.22 in).
5. Flush tolerances are 0-2 mm (0-0.06 mm).

1. Open the hood.
2. Loosen the hinge to hood bolts.
3. Adjust the hood to the fender position.
4. Close the hood.
5. Check the hood alignment.
6. Open the hood.
7. Adjust the hood as needed. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
8. Install the hinge to the hood bolts. Tighten: Tighten the hood hinge bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
9. Adjust the hood bumpers.
10. Close the hood.

1. Open and support the hood.
2. Remove the hood assist rods. Refer to «Assist Rod Replacement - Hood»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
3. Mark the upper hood hinge location to the hood with an grease pencil.
4. Remove the bolts from the upper hood hinge, with an assistant.
5. Remove the hood from the vehicle, with an assistant.

1. Install the hood to the vehicle, with an assistant.
2. Align the hood hinges to the alignment marks on the hood. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
3. Install the bolts to the upper hood hinge, with an assistant. Tighten: Tighten the upper hood hinge bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
4. Install the hood assist rods. Refer to «Assist Rod Replacement - Hood»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
5. Adjust the hood as required. Refer to «Hood Adjustment»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .

2. Remove the hood rear side seal. Refer to «Seal Replacement - Hood Rear Side»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
3. Remove the hood assist rod. Refer to «Assist Rod Replacement - Hood»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
4. Remove the hood hinge to fender bolts.
5. Remove the hood hinge from the fender.

Installation Procedure

1. Position the hood hinge to the fender. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
2. Install the hood hinge to fender bolts. Tighten: Tighten the hood hinge to fender bolts to 6 N.m (53 lb in).
3. Install the hood. Refer to «Hood Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
4. Install the hood assist rod. Refer to «Assist Rod Replacement - Hood»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
5. Install the hood rear side seal. Refer to «Seal Replacement - Hood Rear Side»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
6. Adjust the hood, as required. Refer to «Hood Adjustment»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .

1. Open the hood.
2. Mark the hood latch to the hood latch support bracket with a grease pencil.
3. Remove the nuts from the hood latch. IMPORTANT: Do not crimp the hood latch release cable.
4. Disconnect the hood latch release cable from the hood latch by squeezing the hood release cable retainer.
5. Remove the hood latch from the hood latch support bracket.

1. Install the hood latch release cable to the hood latch.
2. Align the hood latch to the marks on the hood latch support bracket. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
3. Install the nuts to the hood latch. Tighten: Tighten the hood latch nuts to 6 N.m (53 lb in).
4. Adjust the hood, if required. Refer to «Hood Adjustment»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
5. Close the hood.

1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the electrical harness from the hood latch support bracket.
3. Remove the hood latch from the hood latch support bracket. Refer to «Hood Latch Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
4. Remove the four bolts from the hood latch support bracket.
5. Reposition the hood latch release cable from the hood latch support bracket.
6. Remove the hood latch support bracket from the upper radiator tie bar.

Scheme 105

1. Install the hood latch support bracket to the upper radiator tie bar. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
2. Install the four bolts to the hood latch support bracket. Tighten: Tighten the hood latch support bracket bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
3. Reposition the hood latch release cable to the hood latch support bracket.
4. Install the hood latch to the hood latch support bracket. Refer to «Hood Latch Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
5. Adjust the hood, if required. Refer to «Hood Adjustment»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
6. Connect the electrical harness to the hood latch support bracket.
7. Close the hood.

1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the left diagonal brace. Refer to «Brace Replacement - Front Fender Upper Diagonal - Left»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to «Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/testing-diagnostics/#engine-controls-34l-introduction-service-replacement) in Engine Controls.
4. Disconnect the hood release cable from the hood latch. Refer to «Hood Latch Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
5. Remove the hood release cable from the hood latch bracket.
6. Remove the hood release cable retainers from the upper tie bar.
7. Remove the hood release cable retainers from the engine compartment side rail.
8. Remove the hood release cable from the hood release handle. Refer to «Hood Latch Release Handle Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
9. Pull the carpet back to access the hood release cable. IMPORTANT: Ensure the end of the wire or string remains in the passenger compartment.
10. Tie the wire or string to the end of the hood release cable in order to aid in the installation of the new hood release cable.
11. Remove the grommet from the dash using a small flat bladed tool.
12. Remove the hood release cable from the dash.
13. Remove the wire or string from the hood release cable.
14. Remove the hood release cable from the vehicle.

1. Tie the wire or string to the hood release cable.
2. Install the hood release cable to the vehicle.
3. Pull the hood release cable through the dash until the grommet is seated in the hole.
4. Install the grommet into the dash using a small flat bladed tool.
5. Install the hood release cable retainers to the engine compartment side rail.
6. Install the hood release cable retainers to the upper tie bar.
7. Connect the hood release cable to the hood latch. Refer to «Hood Latch Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
8. Install the hood release cable to the hood release handle. Refer to «Hood Latch Release Handle Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
9. Pull the carpet back.
10. Remove the block from the hood latch.
11. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to «Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/testing-diagnostics/#engine-controls-34l-introduction-service-replacement) in Engine Controls.
12. Install the diagonal brace. Refer to «Brace Replacement - Front Fender Upper Diagonal - Left»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
13. Test the hood release cable for proper operation before closing the hood.
14. Close the hood.

1. Remove the left IP Insulator Panel. Refer to «Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-system-displays-gauges-and-console) in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
2. Remove the knee bolster panel. Refer to «Knee Bolster Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-system-displays-gauges-and-console) in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
3. Remove the bolts from the hood release handle base.
4. Remove the hood release cable from the hood release handle.
5. Remove the hood release handle from the instrument panel.

1. Install the hood release cable to the hood release handle.
2. Install the hood release handle to the instrument panel. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
3. Install the bolts to hood release handle base. Tighten: Tighten the hood release handle base bolts to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
4. Install the knee bolster panel. Refer to «Knee Bolster Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-system-displays-gauges-and-console) in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
5. Install the left IP Insulator Panel. Refer to «Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-system-displays-gauges-and-console) in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.

1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the hood insulator push-in retainers using J 38778 .
3. Remove the hood insulator from the hood.

1. Install the hood insulator to the hood support brackets.
2. Align the hood insulator retainers holes to the holes in the hood.
3. Install the push-in retainers to the hood.
4. Close the hood.

1. Open and support the hood.
2. Lift up the retainer clips on the assist rod using a small flat-bladed tool. NOTE: Refer to Liftgate/Hood Assist Rod Notice in Cautions and Notices.
3. Pull the upper end of the assist rod from the ball joint on the hood.
4. Pull the lower end of the assist rod from the ball joint on the lower hood hinge.

1. Press the upper end of the assist rods on to the ball joint on the hood.
2. Press the lower end of the assist rods on to the ball joint on the lower hood hinge
3. Remove the support from the hood.
4. Close the hood.

Note. When removing body panels, apply tape to corners of panel and adjacent surfaces to help prevent paint damage.

1. Apply protective tape to the front edge of the front door and the rear edge of the front bumper fascia.
2. Remove the front park/turn signal lamp. Refer to «Park/Turn Signal Lamp Replacement (Aztek)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-lights/#lighting-systems) or «Park/Turn Signal Lamp Replacement (Rendezvous)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-lights/#lighting-systems) in Lighting Systems.
3. Remove the front fender wheel opening molding. Refer to «Molding Replacement - Front Wheel Opening (Aztek)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim) or «Molding Replacement - Front Wheel Opening (Rendezvous)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim) in Exterior Trim.
4. Remove the front fender liner. Refer to «Front Fender Liner Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
5. Remove the front fender sound insulator. Refer to «Fender Sound Insulator Replacement - Front»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
6. Remove the rocker panel molding. Refer to «Molding Replacement - Rocker Panel»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim) in Exterior Trim.
7. Remove the bolts from the front bumper fascia at the front fender.
8. Remove the bolts from the fender at the door hinge pillar.
9. Remove the bolts from the fender at the rocker panel.
10. Remove the bolts from the fender at the front compartment side rail.
11. Remove the fender from the vehicle.

1. Install the front fender to the vehicle. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
2. Install the bolts to the fender at the front compartment side rail. Tighten: Tighten the front fender compartment side rail bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
3. Install the bolts to the fender at the rocker panel. Tighten: Tighten the fender to rocker panel bolts to 6 N.m (53 lb in).
4. Install the bolts to the fender at the door hinge pillar. Tighten: Tighten the fender to door hinge pillar bolts to 6 N.m (53 lb in).
5. Install the front fender wheel opening molding. Refer to «Molding Replacement - Front Wheel Opening (Aztek)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim) or «Molding Replacement - Front Wheel Opening (Rendezvous)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim) in Exterior Trim.
6. Install the front fender sound insulator. Refer to «Fender Sound Insulator Replacement - Front»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
7. Install the front fender liner. Refer to «Front Fender Liner Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
8. Install the rocker panel molding. Refer to «Molding Replacement - Rocker Panel»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim) in Exterior Trim.
9. Remove the protective tape to the front edge of the front door and the rear edge of the front bumper fascia.

1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the engine coolant heater harness from the front fender diagonal brace, if equipped.
3. Reposition the engine coolant reservoir from the front fender diagonal brace. Refer to «Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) in Engine Cooling.
4. If equipped, reposition the cruise control module from the front fender diagonal brace. Refer to «Cruise Control Module Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/cruise-control-systems/#cruise-control-system) in Cruise Control.
5. Remove the front end sheet metal diagonal brace to the inner fender bolt.
6. Remove the front end sheet metal diagonal brace to radiator support bolts.
7. Remove the front end sheet metal diagonal brace.

1. Position the front end sheet metal diagonal brace to the radiator support and to the inner fender. NOTE: Refer to «Fastener Notice»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/oem-general-information/#cautions-and-notices__fastener-notice) in Cautions and Notices.
2. Install the bolts to the front end sheet metal diagonal brace at the radiator support. Tighten: Tighten the front end sheet metal diagonal brace at radiator support bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
3. Install the bolts to the front end sheet metal diagonal brace at the inner fender. Tighten: Tighten the front end sheet metal diagonal brace to the inner fender bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
4. If removed, reposition the cruise control module to the front fender diagonal brace. Refer to «Cruise Control Module Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/cruise-control-systems/#cruise-control-system) in Cruise Control.
5. Reposition the engine coolant reservoir to the front fender diagonal brace. Refer to «Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) in Engine Cooling.
6. Install the engine coolant heater harness to the front fender diagonal brace, if equipped.
7. Close the hood.

1. Open the hood.
2. Reposition the underhood wiring junction block from the front fender diagonal brace. Refer to «Underhood Electrical Center or Junction Block Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/body-electrical/#wiring-systems-diagnostic-information-and-procedures) in Wiring Systems.
3. Remove the bolt from the front end sheet metal diagonal brace at the inner fender.
4. Remove the bolts from the front end sheet metal diagonal brace at the radiator support.
5. Remove the front end sheet metal diagonal brace.

1. Position the front end sheet metal diagonal brace to the radiator support and to the inner fender. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
2. Install the bolts to the front end sheet metal diagonal brace at the radiator support. Tighten: Tighten the front end sheet metal diagonal brace at radiator support bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
3. Install the bolts to the front end sheet metal diagonal brace at the inner fender. Tighten: Tighten the front end sheet metal diagonal brace to the inner fender bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
4. Reposition the underhood wiring junction block to the front fender diagonal brace. Refer to «Underhood Electrical Center or Junction Block Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/body-electrical/#wiring-systems-diagnostic-information-and-procedures) in Wiring Systems.
5. Close the hood.

1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the windshield wiper arms. Refer to «Wiper Arm Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/wiperwasher-systems/#wiper-system-washer-system) in Wiper Washer Systems.
3. Reposition the windshield wiper washer hose from the air inlet grille.
4. Remove the push-in retainers from the air inlet grille, using the J 38778 . See «Special Tools and Equipment»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
5. Remove the air inlet grille extensions from the air inlet grille at the windshield. Pull up and out in order to release the retainers on the air inlet grille extensions.
6. Remove the air inlet grille from the vehicle.

1. Position the air inlet grille to the vehicle.
2. Install the air inlet grille extensions to the air inlet grille and the windshield, pressing into place until fully seated.
3. Install the push-in retainers to the air inlet grille.
4. Reposition the windshield wiper washer hose to the air inlet grille.
5. Install the windshield wiper arms. Refer to «Wiper Arm Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/wiperwasher-systems/#wiper-system-washer-system) in Wiper Washer Systems.
6. Close the hood.

1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the push-in retainers from the hood rear weatherstrip.
3. Remove the hood rear weatherstrip from under the air inlet grille.
4. Remove the hood rear weatherstrip from the vehicle.

1. Align the hood rear weatherstrip to the holes in the cowl under the air inlet grille.
2. Install the push-in retainers to the hood rear weatherstrip.
3. Close the hood.

1. Open the hood.
2. Pull the rear side hood seal from the pinch-weld flange and motor compartment flange.
3. Remove the rear side hood seal from the vehicle.
4. Clean any adhesive from the pinch-weld flange and motor compartment flange surface.

1. Remove the protective backing paper from the adhesive on the rear side hood seal.
2. Install the rear side hood seal to the pinch-weld flange and motor compartment flange.
3. Press the side rear hood seal onto the pinch-weld flange and motor compartment flange until the adhesive is fully adhered.
4. Close the hood.

1. Remove the screws from the front fender liner at the front bumper fascia and fender.
2. Remove the nut from the stud at the rear of the front fender liner.
3. Remove the nut from the stud at the front of the front fender liner.
4. Remove the front fender liner.

1. Position the fender liner to the fender, over the studs and behind the rocker molding. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
2. Install the nut to the stud at the rear of the front fender liner. Tighten: Tighten the front fender liner rear nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
3. Install the nut to the stud at the front of the front fender liner. Tighten: Tighten the front fender liner front nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
4. Install the screws to the front fender liner at the front bumper fascia and fender. Tighten: Tighten the front bumper fascia and fender screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

1. Remove the front fender liner. Refer to «Front Fender Liner Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
2. Remove the front fender insulator from the stud, by pulling off.
3. Remove the front fender insulator from the inner fender.

1. Install the front fender insulator to the stud in the inner fender, pressing into place until fully seated.
2. Install the front fender liner. Refer to «Front Fender Liner Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .

1. Remove the push-in retainers holding the engine splash to the lower flange of the engine compartment side rail using J 38778 .
2. Remove the engine splash shield from the lower flange of the engine compartment side rail.

1. Install the engine splash shield front tab to the front fender liner.
2. Align the holes in the engine splash shield to the holes in the outboard side engine compartment side rail.
3. Insert the push-in retainers to the engine splash shield.
