Tools Required

J 25033-C Pulley Installer. See Special Tools .

Installation Procedure

  1. Place the power steering pump in position to the cylinder block.
  2. Loosely install the power steering front bolt in order to hold the power steering pump in position.
  3. Place the power steering front bracket in position.
  4. Loosely install the power steering side bracket bolt.
  5. Hold the power steering pump firmly against the engine block.
  6. Tighten the power steering pump front bolt. Tighten: Tighten the power steering pump front bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  7. Install the power steering pump side bolt. Tighten: Tighten the power steering pump side bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  8. If removed, install the power steering pump pulley using the J 25033-C . See «Special Tools»(/buick/lacrosse/i-2004-2009/remont/mechanical/#how-to-diagnosis-troubleshooting-the-engine-mechanical-36l-ly7-introduction__special-tools) .
  1. Place the A/C compressor in position to the cylinder block.
  2. Loosely install the A/C compressor bolts (1, 3) and nut (2).
  3. Tighten the A/C compressor front bolt (3). Tighten: Tighten the A/C compressor front bolt (3) to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  4. Tighten the A/C compressor front nut (2). Tighten: Tighten the A/C compressor front nut (2) to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  5. Tighten the A/C compressor rear bolt (1). Tighten: Tighten the A/C compressor rear bolt (1) to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  1. Place the generator in position to the cylinder block.
  2. Loosely install the generator bolts.
  1. Place the drive belt idler pulley and bolt in position through the generator mounting hole and into the engine front cover.
  2. Install the drive belt idler pulley bolt. Tighten: Tighten the drive belt idler pulley bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  3. Tighten the generator bolts. Tighten: Tighten the generator bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  1. Place the left drive belt tensioner assembly in position to the engine front cover.
  2. Install the left drive belt tensioner bracket bolts. Tighten: Tighten the left drive belt tensioner bracket bolts to 23 N.m (17 lb ft).
  1. Route the drive belt around the following: Crankshaft balancer Air conditioning compressor Drive belt tensioner Power steering pump Water pump pulley Generator
  2. Insert a 1/2 inch drive ratchet into the drive belt tensioner.
  3. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise.
  4. Route the remainder of the drive belt around the drive belt idler pulley.
  5. Slowly rotate the drive belt tensioner counterclockwise until the drive belt is tight.
  6. Remove the 1/2 inch drive ratchet.
  7. Inspect the drive belt for proper seating in all pulleys.

Left Side Harness Connections

  1. Install the engine wiring harness to the engine.
  2. Connect the engine wiring harness to the throttle body connector.
  3. Connect the engine wiring harness to the barometric (BARO) sensor.
  4. Connect the engine wiring harness to the top of the left camshaft cover.
  5. Connect the engine wiring harness to the front of the left camshaft cover.
  6. Connect the engine wiring harness to the left ignition coils.
  7. Connect the engine wiring harness to the fuel injector harness.
  8. Connect the engine wiring harness to the starter motor solenoid.
  9. Connect the engine wiring harness to the oil pressure sender.
  10. Connect the engine wiring harness to the left knock sensor.
  11. Connect the engine wiring harness to the A/C compressor.
  12. Connect the engine wiring harness to the generator.
  13. Connect the engine wiring harness to the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.
  14. Position the heat shield down in order to protect the ECT sensor and the wiring harness connector.
  15. Install the engine wiring harness ground to the left cylinder head.
  16. Install the engine wiring harness ground bolt to the left cylinder head. Tighten: Tighten the engine wiring harness ground bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  17. Connect the engine wiring harness to the left camshaft position sensors.
  18. Connect the engine wiring harness to the left camshaft position actuator valves.
  19. Install the engine wiring harness bracket to the front lower left side of the engine.
  20. Install the engine wiring harness bracket bolts to the front lower left side of the engine. Tighten: Tighten the engine wiring harness bracket bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  21. Install the engine wiring harness engine control module (ECM) ground to the left cylinder head.
  22. Install the engine wiring harness ECM ground bolt to the left cylinder head. Tighten: Tighten the engine wiring harness ECM ground bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  23. Install the engine wiring harness bracket to the intake manifold.
  24. Install the engine wiring harness bracket bolts to the intake manifold. Tighten: Tighten the engine wiring harness bracket bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  25. Install the radiator inlet hose support.
  26. Install the radiator inlet hose support bolt. Tighten: Tighten the radiator inlet hose support bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  27. Install the ECM bracket.
  28. Install the ECM bracket bolts. Tighten: Tighten the ECM bracket bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  29. Install the ECM module to the ECM bracket.
  30. Install the ECM module nuts. Tighten: Tighten the ECM module nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  31. Connect the engine wiring harness to the ECM module.
  32. Install the ECM ground harness terminal to the ECM lug.
  33. Install the ECM ground harness terminal screw to the ECM lug. Tighten: Tighten the ECM ground harness terminal screw to 4.5 N.m (40 lb in).
  34. Install the right torque strut bracket.
  35. Install the one long outboard right torque strut bracket bolt.
  36. Install the two short outboard right torque strut bracket bolts. Tighten: Tighten the right torque strut bracket bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

Right Side Harness Connections

  1. Connect the engine wiring harness to the top of the right camshaft cover.
  2. Connect the engine wiring harness to the front of the right camshaft cover.
  3. Connect the engine wiring harness to the right ignition coils.
  4. Connect the engine wiring harness to the evaporative (EVAP) solenoid.
  5. Connect the engine wiring harness to the right camshaft position sensors.
  6. Connect the engine wiring harness to the right camshaft position actuator valves.
  7. Install the engine wiring harness bracket to the lower right side of the engine.
  8. Install the engine wiring harness bracket bolt to the lower right side of the engine. Tighten: Tighten the engine wiring harness bracket bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  9. Connect the engine wiring harness to the right knock sensor.
  10. Connect the engine wiring harness to the crankshaft position sensor.
  11. Install the right exhaust manifold lower heat shield.
  12. Install the right exhaust manifold lower heat shield bolts. Tighten: Tighten the larger M10 right exhaust manifold lower heat shield bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft). Tighten the smaller M6 right exhaust manifold lower heat shield bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  13. Install the engine wiring harness ground to the side of the right cylinder head at the front.
  14. Install the engine wiring harness ground bolt to the side of the right cylinder head at the front. Tighten: Tighten the engine wiring harness ground bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  15. Install the engine wiring harness ground to the side of the right cylinder head at the rear.
  16. Install the engine wiring harness ground bolt to the side of the right cylinder head at the rear. Tighten: Tighten the engine wiring harness ground bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  2. J 45299 Engine Preluber. See «Special Tools»(/buick/lacrosse/i-2004-2009/remont/mechanical/#how-to-diagnosis-troubleshooting-the-engine-mechanical-36l-ly7-introduction__special-tools) .

Prelubing Procedure

  1. Ensure a NEW oil filter is installed.
  2. Remove the oil pressure sending unit from the oil filter adapter.
  3. Install the J-21867-6 . See «Special Tools»(/buick/lacrosse/i-2004-2009/remont/mechanical/#how-to-diagnosis-troubleshooting-the-engine-mechanical-36l-ly7-introduction__special-tools) .
  4. Install the flexible hose to the adapter and open the valve.
  5. Pump the handle on the J 45299 in order to flow a minimum of 1-1. See «Special Tools»(/buick/lacrosse/i-2004-2009/remont/mechanical/#how-to-diagnosis-troubleshooting-the-engine-mechanical-36l-ly7-introduction__special-tools) .9 liters (1-2 quarts) of engine oil. Observe the flow of engine oil through the flexible hose and into the engine assembly.
  6. Close the valve and remove the flexible hose and adapter from the engine.
  7. Install the oil pressure sending unit. Tighten: Tighten the oil pressure sending unit to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
  8. Top-off the engine oil to the proper level.
