AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HEAT EXCHANGER

Note. Numbers in text refer to numbers in figures.

Removal & Installation

Unlock transmission coolant lines (1, 2) with Special Tool (17 0 030) and detach. (Scheme 3) Catch and dispose of escaping transmission fluid. Pull lock upward and detach heat exchanger toward rear. (Scheme 4) Check sealing rings and replace as necessary. (Scheme 5) To install, reverse removal procedure. Press lock (1) downward before pushing on heat exchanger. The lock must snap audibly into place when the heat exchanger is forced on.

COOLANT EXPANSION TANK

Note. Numbers in text refer to numbers in figures.

Remove radiator cover. Remove fan cowl. See FAN COWL. Drain coolant. Disconnect electrical connection (1). Unfasten lock (2). (Scheme 6) Pull locks (1, 2) upward and detach coolant hose from radiator/coolant expansion tank. (Scheme 7) Pull lock (1) upward and detach coolant hose from coolant expansion tank. (Scheme 8) Pull coolant expansion tank upwards slightly out of carrier plate and pull out lower connection piece. Then tilt expansion tank to rear and remove. (Scheme 9) To install, reverse removal procedure. Check sealing rings. Do not under any circumstances coat sealing rings with an anti-seize compound before installation. Retaining lug must engage in opening on carrier plate.
