Draining gear oil

- Open oil drain plug (1) and drain gear oil
- Activate gear oil pump using DIS Tester for approx. 30 seconds The residual oil is pumped out of the pump circuit of the transmission oil cooler into the transmission housing and flows off
- Allow gear oil to flow off sufficiently
- Clean oil drain plug (1) and screw in Tightening torque «23 00 4AZ»(ref-381603-S36549337812010123000000) .
Release screw (1).
Tightening torque 23 41 17AZ .
Check transmission oil screen, replace if necessary.

Adding gear oil.
- Undo oil filler plug (2).
- Pour in oil until it overflows at inspection opening.
- Check gear oil level (see below).

Note. Can also be carried out individually - without an oil change! Activate gear oil pump via DIS Tester. Open oil filler plug. Top up gear oil with pump running to lower edge of filler opening. Refit oil filler plug. Tightening torque 23 00 4AZ . Switch off pump activation.

- Headaches

- Pour oil only into appropriately marked containers
- Do not pour oil into drinking vessels (drinks bottles, glasses, cups or mugs)
- Observe country-specific safety regulations
First aid measures
- Do not induce vomiting. If the person affected is still conscious, he/she must rinse out their mouth with water, drink plenty of water and consult a doctor immediately. If the person affected is unconscious, do not administer anything by mouth, place the person in the recovery position and seek immediate medical attention.

To avoid damaging the sound insulation (1) on the bulkhead, raise the transmission after withdrawing the transmission pin from the pilot bearing against the direction of engine lowering to 0°.
For safety, a protective film (2) can also be placed between the transmission and the sound insulation.

Pay attention to correction position of dowel sleeves.
Replace damaged dowel sleeves.
Ensure correct position of cover plate.

REMOVE RELEASE UNIT AND RELEASE LEVER and clean.
Check lubrication of transmission input shaft for sticky consistency. If grease is sticky, REPLACE CLUTCH PLATE .
Check clutch plate for friction rust in taper splines and REPLACE IF NECESSARY .
Mechanically remove old grease and lining abrasion from the taper splines of the clutch disk (with a cloth).

Greasing specification
- Remove release bearing and release lever.
- Push on grease scraper ring «21 2 240»(/bmw/m3/e90-2007-2013/remont/clutches-manual-hydraulic/#clutch-special-tools-e90) as far as it will go.
- Grease splines (1) of input shaft with a brush. Refer to «MANUAL TRANSMISSION - OPERATING FLUIDS»(/bmw/m3/e90-2007-2013/remont/manual-trans/#manual-transmission-operating-fluids) and «GEAR SHIFT MECHANISM - OPERATING FLUIDS»(/bmw/m3/e90-2007-2013/remont/automatic-trans/#gear-shift-mechanism-operating-fluids) .
- Detach grease scraper ring.

- Limiting spread: Use oil blocks to prevent the surface spread of oil.
- Cleaning procedure: Bind and dispose of escaped oil with nonflammable absorbents. NOTE: Do not flush oil away with water or aqueous cleaning agents.

Drive out radial shaft seal (1) with impact weight (2).

Coat sealing lips of radial seal with gear oil.
Push radial seal (1) onto drive shaft up to housing.
Drive in radial seal (1) as far as it will go with special tool 233240 and plastic hammer.

Release collar nut with special tool 232320.

Mark flange with thermo pin and heat to min. 80°- 100°.
