HYDRAULIC FLUID COOLER

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  1. Hose clamps up to 25 mm diameter 3094
  2. Torque Wrench V.A.G 1410
  3. Spring type clip pliers VAS 5024 A

Removing

If the vehicle has air suspension, turn on the "vehicle lift mode". Refer to VEHICLE LIFT MODE .

Only remove front noise insulation -1-.

Remove the upper radiator cover and fan shroud with the coolant fans. Refer to [For engine(s) BHK] Removal and Installation or [For engine(s) BAR] Removal and Installation or [For engine(s) CATA] Removal and Installation or [For engine(s) CJWC, CJWB, CJWE] Removal and Installation

Loosen the radiator -A- from the lock carrier -C- and swivel it, with the coolant hoses still connected, as far as possible to the rear (disengage and tilt, do not remove the radiator, do not open the coolant system). Refer to [For engine(s) BHK] Removal and Installation or [For engine(s) BAR] Removal and Installation or [For engine(s) CATA] Removal and Installation or [For engine(s) CJWC, CJWB, CJWE] Removal and Installation . Be careful not to damage any components.

Note. Clamp on the left and right sides secure the radiator (press again the lock -arrow- to remove the clamps). Refer to [For engine(s) BHK] Removal and Installation or [For engine(s) BAR] Removal and Installation or [For engine(s) CATA] Removal and Installation or [For engine(s) CJWC, CJWB, CJWE] Removal and Installation . Bolts -2- on the left and right secure the radiator to the lock carrier. Refer to [For engine(s) BHK] Removal and Installation or [For engine(s) BAR] Removal and Installation or [For engine(s) CATA] Removal and Installation or [For engine(s) CJWC, CJWB, CJWE] Removal and Installation

Clamp the hydraulic lines -1 and 2- with 3094.

Disconnect hydraulic lines -1 and 2- at hydraulic oil cooler.

Remove screw -2- on back side of cooler.

Disengage the hydraulic fluid cooler -1- at the bottom from the A/C condenser.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Note. If hydraulic oil cooler was replaced, all hydraulic oil must be replaced. Secure all hose connections with hose clamps appropriate to the model. Clean oiled places in engine compartment.

Tighten the bolt on the rear side of the radiator to 9 Nm.

Fill the hydraulic fluid and check the level. Refer to POWER STEERING, CHECKING HYDRAULIC OIL LEVEL .

Bleed the steering system. Refer to STEERING SYSTEM, BLEEDING AFTER REINSTALLING .

On vehicles with air suspension, position vehicle on wheels. Refer to POSITIONING VEHICLE ON HOIST AND WHEELS .

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  1. Hose Clamp Pliers V.A.G 1275
  2. Torque Wrench 50-200 Nm V.A.G 1332
  3. Steering gear grease

Note. Always replace self-locking nuts and bolts. Welding or straighten work on any steering components is not permissible. To grease the rack, only use steering gear grease. There are two different tie rod ends being installed: one marked with "R" and one marked with "L" and an "arrow". They indicate the driving direction.

  1. Right Tie Rod End The version marked with "R" or an "arrow" pointing in the drive direction. Check dust caps for damage and correct seating. Tapered plug must be free of oil and grease. If necessary, clean with a dry rag, do not use cleaning solvent.
  2. Nut 70 Nm

  4. Steering Arm Thrust Ring Only on steering gear with smaller arm Note location «LARGE STEERING ARM BOUNDARY CONTACT SURFACE -ARROWS- FACES TOWARD TIE ROD. COLLAR -1- POINTS TO STEERING GEAR -2»(ref-491696-S01032194532012080200000) Steering arm, measuring, refer to «STEERING ARM, MEASURING MECHANICALLY»(ref-491696-S22297004332012073100000) Installing, refer to «STEERING ARM THRUST RING»(ref-491696-S26695352762012073100000)
  5. Spring Clamp Open using spring type clip pliers VAS 5024 A
  6. Boot Check for damage Must not be twisted when adjusting toe
  7. Clamp Always replace
  8. Bolt 12 Nm
  9. Locking Plate
  10. Control Line When installing, make sure that the O-ring is not damaged Make sure not under tension when installing Do not damage surface, repair paint damage as necessary.
  11. Sealing Ring Always replace

  13. Banjo Bolt 40 Nm

  16. Power Steering Gear Removing and installing, refer to «POWER STEERING GEAR»(ref-491696-S38821509652012073100000)
  17. Servotronic Solenoid Valve -N119- Removing and installing, refer to «Servotronic Solenoid Valve -N119»(ref-491696-S00742808332012073100000) . Follow values can be requested VAS 5051B: Speed signal The voltage supply from vehicle electrical system control module 2 -J520- Solenoid valve -- status Measured current for solenoid valve -- control -- Connect VAS 5051B and select troubleshooting using "Functions/Component selection" vehicle diagnostic tester. -- Body (Repair Group 01; 27; 50 - 97) -- "Electrical System (Repair group 01; 27; 90 - 97)". -- "4F - Electronic central electronics II". -- "Electrical components". -- "N119 - Servotronic Solenoid Valve (Repair group 48)".
  18. Seal Always replace.

  20. Strainer Always replace.
  21. Bolt CAUTION: Always follow bolt tightening sequence. Tightening sequence, refer to «Servotronic Solenoid Valve -N119»(ref-491696-S00742808332012073100000)

  24. Left Tie Rod End The version marked with "L" or an "arrow" pointing in the drive direction. Check dust caps for damage and correct seating Conical pin must be free of grease and oil If necessary, clean using dry rag, do not use cleaning agents
