Removing Audi A8 D3 facelift

Removing

The air spring damper is removed together with the mounting bracket and upper control arms.

During assembly work, make sure no pressure points form on the suspension strut boot.

Air Spring Damper, Servicing --> Air Spring Damper, Servicing .

1. Place vehicle on a hoist --> «Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels»(ref-289219-S17522212802008062700000) .
2. Remove wheel covers, remove cover cap on light-alloy wheels (removal hook in vehicle tool kit).
3. Remove wheel.
4. Secure brake disc with a wheel bolt.

1. Clean air connection area.

1. Remove connecting piece - 1 - at residual pressure valve - 2 -. Air escapes then.

Note. Generally, residual pressure valve - 2 - must not be loosened or removed.

1. Seal both connections. Ensure no dust particles enter connections.

Scheme 65

1. On vehicles with an auxiliary heater, remove the bolts - arrows - from exhaust pipe to the noise insulation.

Scheme 66

1. Loosen quick-release fasteners - 1 - and - 2 - and remove noise insulation.
2. Remove drive axle from flange shaft/transmission.

Scheme 67

1. Remove nut - 1 - , bolt - 2 - and both control arms - 3 - upward.

Note. Do not widen slits in the wheel bearing housing using a chisel or similar tool.

Scheme 68

1. Remove coupling rod of level control system sensor - 1 - from control arm.
2. Remove left and right coupling - 2 - --> «Coupling, Removing and Installing»(ref-289219-S24803065752008062700000) .
3. Detach air spring damper from control arm - 3 - and pull it outward.
4. Loosen stabilizer bar mounting bolts 5 turns evenly.

1. Remove plenum chamber cover --> «92 - WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER SYSTEM»(ref-289227-S11612981612008062700000) .

Scheme 69

1. Unclip and disconnect connector - 4 -.
2. Remove bolts - 1 - through - 3 -.
3. Working from the wheel housing side outward, press mounting bracket out of the body bushings in the area with the threaded connections.
4. Turn steering gear to the left or right as far as the stop (removal of left or right air spring damper).

Scheme 70

1. Press control arm - 1 - down using a wood block - arrow A - far enough so the air spring damper - 2 - can be removed forward - arrow B -. A second technician is needed for this.

Note. When removing the air spring damper, make sure the protective sleeves on the steering, driveshaft and air suspension strut are not damaged.

1. Remove mounting bracket to the air spring damper --> «Mounting Bracket, Removing and Installing»(ref-289219-S41306624482008062700000) .
