Outer CV joint, installing

  1. Slide protective joint boot with small clamping sleeve on driveshaft.

Joints and protective joint boots must be free of grease.

1 - Circlip (snap ring), must be replaced.

  1. Position protective joint boot between arrows.
  2. Apply 70 grams of joint grease to inside of joint.

  1. Install old driveshaft bolt into joint as shown in the illustration.
  2. Drive joint onto driveshaft with plastic hammer until circlip engages.
  3. Insert 50 grams of driveshaft grease into joint on boot side.
  4. Grease outer CV joint --> «Grease quantity and type»(ref-289219-S36326381472009020900000) .
  1. Slide protective boot onto the joint.
  2. Make sure protective boot is seated on joint correctly.
  3. Protective joint boot must fit in groove and on joint contour.

Instructions only apply to stainless steel clamps.

The galvanized clamps for rubber protective boots are clamped using pliers V.A.G 1275.

Tighten the small and large clamps on the outer joint.

  1. Use CV joint boot clamp tool V.A.G 1682 as shown in illustration. Be sure that edges of clamping pliers are seated in corners - arrows B - of hose clamp.
  2. Tension clamp by turning spindle with a torque wrench (do not tilt clamp tool).
  1. Tightening specification: 20 Nm.
  2. Use torque wrench with 5 to 50 Nm range (e.g. V.A.G 1331).
  3. Make sure spindle threads on the pliers - A - move freely. Grease with MoS 2 grease if necessary.
  4. If it does not move freely, e.g. due to dirt in thread, the required clamp tension will not be achieved at the specified torque.
