Wire Connections, Checking
- Connect test box VAG1598/31 to harness connectors of wiring harness (do not connect ECM). Connect Ground (GND) clip at test box (not visible in illustration) to Ground (GND) --> «Wire and Component Test at Engine Control Module using VAG 1598/31»(/audi/a8/d3-2005-2007/remont/cooling-fan/#42l-v8-5v-generic-scan-tool-engine-codes-bfm) .
- Check the following wire connection for open circuit and short circuit to Ground (GND) and B+

- Repair open circuit in wiring or short circuit if necessary. --> Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting and Component Locations
- In addition, check both wires to each other for short circuit.
Specified value: infinity ohms (no continuity)
- If no malfunction was detected during the previous tests, replace Engine Control Module (ECM) --> «Engine Control Module, Replacing»(/audi/a8/d3-2005-2007/remont/cooling-fan/#42l-v8-5v-generic-scan-tool-engine-codes-bfm__engine-control-module-replacing) .
- Read readiness code --> «Readiness Code, Reading»(/audi/a8/d3-2005-2007/remont/cooling-fan/#42l-v8-5v-generic-scan-tool-engine-codes-bfm__readiness-code-reading) . If DTC memory was erased, readiness code must be generated again --> «Readiness Code, Generating»(/audi/a8/d3-2005-2007/remont/cooling-fan/#42l-v8-5v-generic-scan-tool-engine-codes-bfm__readiness-code-generating) .
