SEAT FORWARD/BACK ADJUSTER RELEASE CABLE
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Pop Rivet Pliers VAS 5072
- Drill
- 4.0 mm drill bit
- Protective Eyewear

Remove the trim on the sill side. Refer to TRIM, SILL SIDE .
Remove the screw.
Remove the seat forward/back adjustment handle.
Press the control cable sleeve in the direction of -arrow A- out of the control cable bracket.
Detach release cable -1- for seat forward/back adjustment from the release lever -arrow B-.

Drill out blind rivets -arrows- with a 4 mm drill and remove the retaining plate -1- for the relay socket and wiring harness.
Release retaining clip -4- on the release cable in the direction of -arrow A- and remove the retaining clamp in an upward direction -arrow B-.

Release retaining spring -2- with a narrow screwdriver -3-.
Remove seat rail release lever -1- up out of the axis of rotation.
Remove the seat forward/back adjustment release cable.
Install in reverse order of removal.

Remove the outer trim. Refer to OUTER TRIM .
Remove the bolt -2-.
Remove seat height adjustment lever -1- -arrow-.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following
Insert the bolt with locking compound; locking compound.

Remove the seat pan. Refer to SEAT PAN .
Remove the bolt -3-.
Remove the bolts -2- and -4-.
Remove seat height adjuster -5- and retaining plate -1-.
Install in reverse order of removal.

Pull seat height adjustment handle -2- up as far as the stop and hold it in that position.
Use a narrow screwdriver to press retaining clip -1- toward the inside -arrow A- and remove the seat height adjustment handle from the lever -arrow B-.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following
- Springs -2- of retaining clip -3- must be on the outside of lever -1-.
Remove the trim on the sill side. Refer to TRIM, SILL SIDE .
Remove the trim on the tunnel side. Refer to TRIM, TUNNEL SIDE .
Remove the screw.
Remove the seat forward/back adjustment handle.
Press the control cable sleeve in the direction of -arrow A- out of the control cable bracket.
Detach release cable -1- for seat forward/back adjustment from the release lever -arrow B-.
Release retaining clip -4- on the release cable in the direction of -arrow A- and remove the retaining clamp in an upward direction -arrow B-.
Release retaining spring -2- with a narrow screwdriver -3-.
Remove seat rail release lever -1- up out of the axis of rotation.
Remove the bolt -1- and cut the cable ties -arrows-.

Free up the electrical wiring harness on the retaining plate.
Disconnect the electrical connectors -2- and -4-.
Disconnect the pneumatic hose -3-.
Remove the bolts -arrows-.

Remove the seat pan from the seat frame.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following
Insert the bolts with locking compound; locking compound.

Remove the bucket seat. Refer to FRONT BUCKET SEAT .
Carefully release retaining tabs -1- and -2-.
Remove the seat rail cover.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following
Seat rail cover must be removed until it audibly engages.
Remove the bucket seat. Refer to FRONT BUCKET SEAT .
Secure the bucket front seat on the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136. Refer to FRONT SEAT, INSTALLING ON THE Fixture for Seat RepairVAS 6136 .
Remove the outer trim. Refer to OUTER TRIM .
Remove the seat height adjustment lever. Refer to SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTER .
Remove the backrest adjustment wheel. Refer to SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT HANDLE .
Remove the left backrest cover BACKREST COVER .
Remove the bolt -1-.

Separate the cable ties.
Press the retaining tab and pull the electrical connectors out of the brackets.
Mark electrical connectors -2- and -3- and remove them.
Press the locking pin inward and remove the expanding clip -3-.

Release retaining tab -1- -arrow A- and remove sill trim -2- upward and toward the front -B arrows
Disconnect the lumbar support electrical harness connector.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following
Make sure trim -1- on the sill side engages correctly in the seat pan and on the backrest -arrows-.

Remove the bucket seat. Refer to FRONT BUCKET SEAT .
Secure the bucket front seat on the fixture for seat repairVAS 6136. Refer to FRONT SEAT, INSTALLING ON THE Fixture for Seat RepairVAS 6136 .
Remove the right backrest cover. Refer to BACKREST COVER .
Remove the belt latch. Refer to FRONT BELT LATCH .
Note. Do not disconnect the electrical harness connectors.
Press the locking pin inward and remove the expanding clip -1-.
Release clip -3- -arrow A- and remove trim -2- on the tunnel side upward and toward the front -arrow B-.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following
Make sure the trim on the tunnel side engages correctly in the backrest.

- Assembly Tool 3399
Scheme 198
Turn the backrest adjustment wheel -1- until a locking mechanism is visible from behind -arrow A-. It may be necessary to use a flashlight.
Engage Assembly Tool 3399 and pry it in the direction of -arrow B-.
Turn backrest adjustment wheel about 120° more.
Engage Assembly Tool 3399 and pry it in the direction of -arrow B-.
Remove backrest adjustment wheel.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following
If backrest adjustment wheel is too loose after installation, replace wheel.
Note. Removal and installation can be done with seat installed. Removing and installing a standard front seat is described. Removal and installation on the other seat versions is similar. The illustration shows a backrest cover without a storage net. The storage net cannot be removed from the backrest cover and can only be replaced together with the backrest cover.

Disengage the lower side hooks -3- (quantity: 2) on the backrest cover -2-.
1 - Backrest frame trim
Press the backrest cover -1- toward the center of the seat in the direction of -arrow A-.
Scheme 200
Remove the backrest cover back in the direction of -arrow B-.
Do the same on the opposite side.
Disengage the sides of the backrest cover -2- -arrows A, B, E and F-.
Scheme 201
Reach behind the backrest cover -1- and remove the right side from the backrest -2-.
Scheme 202
Do the same to the opposite side of the backrest cover -1-.
Loosen the side retaining hooks -3- or -5- (Scheme 88).
Remove the backrest cover -1- further and bend it until the upper hooks -2- (Scheme 88) disengage from the backrest frame.

Note. The illustration does not show the upper hooks.
Tip the backrest cover -1- back slightly.
Press the backrest cover -1- down in the direction of -arrow A-.
Scheme 204
Lift the backrest cover in the direction of -arrow B- and remove it from the backrest frame.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following
First slide the upper hooks -2- (Scheme 88) under the top backrest frame cross panel.
Tilt the backrest cover down and engage the side retaining tabs -3- and -5- and the lower hooks -4-.
Make sure the side retaining tabs -3- and -5- engage with the backrest frame trim correctly and the lower hooks -4- slide over the backrest frame trim seats.
Press the backrest cover -1- firmly into the areas marked with circles in the direction of the backrest.
Scheme 205
Check the retainers for secure seating and try to pull the lower part of the backrest cover off.
The backrest cover is engaged properly if it cannot be pulled off.
