Scheme 44: HOOD ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW
  1. Hood A second person is needed during removal and installation to support and hold the hood. Removing -- Remove the gas-filled strut from the hood. Refer to «GAS-FILLED STRUT»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids-coupe). -- Remove nuts -4- on upper lid hinge. -- Remove the hood. Installing: in reverse order Adjusting: -- Center the hood between the fenders. -- Adjust the height of the hood over the lower part of the lid lock. -- Adjust the hood to the fenders using the stop buffers (Scheme 50).

  3. Hood hinge For removal and installation, the hood must be removed or supported securely. Removing -- Remove gas-filled strut. Refer to «GAS-FILLED STRUT»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids-coupe). -- Remove the bolts -2- and nuts -4-. Installing: in reverse order

  1. Hood lock Loosen the upper bumper cover and push it aside. Disconnect the lid lock cable at the coupling. Disconnect the connector. Remove the bolts -1- and -2-. NOTE: To adjust the hood height, move the lid lock up or down as required.

  1. In -A- area = 3.5 mm +/- 0.5 mm
  2. In -B- area = 3.7 mm +/- 0.5 mm

The lid front height can be adjusted by loosening the nut and sliding it in the direction of the -arrow-.

With the hinge installed, the rear shelf must be removed.

With the rear shelf installed, disengage the spring on the hinge.

Remove the hinge under the rear shelf, loosen the nut on the hinge and slide it accordingly.

After adjusting, tighten the nut on the hinge to 20 Nm.

Install the hinge and engage the spring and gas-filled strut, if necessary.

The rear height can be adjusted by sliding the end plate -1-.

  1. Gas strut To remove securing spring -arrow-, raise slightly and remove gas-filled strut from ball stud. NOTE: Ensure position is correct when installing: Tube of gas-filled strut must be engaged on body side

Scheme 59: REMOVING

Support the lid or secure it against falling.

Using a small screwdriver, lift the securing spring -arrow- slightly and remove the gas-filled strut -1- from the upper ball stud -2-.

Repeat procedure on lower ball stud.

INSTALLING

Note. After completely removing gas-filled strut, ensure correct position when installing: Tube of gas-filled strut must be engaged on body side

Press gas-filled strut onto ball stud and engage.

Scheme 60: GAS-FILLED STRUT, RELEASING GAS

Clamp gas-filled strut in a vise in area -x- = 50 mm (2 in.).

WARNINGClamp only within this area, otherwise accident could occur! Wear protective eyewear when sawing.

Note. Cover area of sawn portion with a rag to absorb oil spraying out.

Cut through the gas-filled strut cylinder within the first third of the overall cylinder length using the piston rod end of the cylinder as a reference point.

Scheme 61: HOOD SEAL
  1. Gasket for plenum chamber To remove, pull back from the body flange at the sides. When installing, slide it into the sealing profile with pre-tension beginning at the sides. Press seal onto opposite side in stages. Slide seal into sealing profile on opposite side. Compress the excess length along the plenum chamber bulkhead.
  2. Right sealing profile To remove, unclip from the body and remove it sideways under the fender flange. When installing, the clips on the foam piece must engage in the body.
  3. Plenum chamber - bulkhead Slide the plenum chamber seal on at the sides.
  4. Left sealing profile To remove, unclip from the body and remove it sideways under the fender flange. When installing, the clips on the foam piece must engage in the body.

Scheme 62: HOOD RELEASE CABLE
  1. Rear lid latch Removing and installing «HOOD RELEASE CABLE»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids-coupe) To adjust the hood, slide up or down.
  2. Hood cable Removing -- Disconnect the release cable at the coupling «HOOD RELEASE CABLE»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids-coupe) . -- Disengage the release cable from the bracket -7-. -- Pull the release cable through to the engine compartment. Installing: in reverse order
  3. Cable coupling -- Slide the coupling clamp sideways onto the bracket -8- on the lock carrier. -- Disconnect the release cable here before removing the lock carrier and release lever.
  4. Hood lock rear cable Release cable to the operating lever in the vehicle interior.
  5. Grommet Ensure correct seating when installing.
  6. Hood release lever Disengage the release cable «HOOD RELEASE CABLE»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids-coupe) .
  7. Lid lock release lever Operating lever cover, removing. Refer to «HOOD RELEASE CABLE»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids-coupe) .
  8. Lock Carrier
  9. Electric wire Pull the electrical wire and the lid lock cable through the lock carrier as shown.
  10. Clips Slide the clamp with the electrical wire onto the tab in the lock carrier.

  1. Rear cable Cable to the operating lever When removing, pull back out of the coupling.
  2. Cable coupling To release, remove the clamp from the lock carrier and pull the cable back slightly out of the clamp. Fold the coupling up and lift the front cable with the nipple out of the coupling.
  3. Clips Slide sideways onto the lock carrier after installing the cable.

Route the release cable -2- as shown in the illustration in the engine compartment along the fender -3-, beginning from the vehicle interior and working out.

Slide the coupling -4- onto the lock carrier. Refer to HOOD RELEASE CABLE .

  1. Left stop Hood side
  2. Rear lid A second person is needed during removal and installation to support and hold the rear lid. Removing -- Remove the rear lid trim panel. Refer to «Interior Trim»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-coupe). -- Disconnect the electrical wires and remove from the lid. -- On the hood side, only loosen the rear nut and remove both side nuts. Refer to «LID HINGE»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids-coupe). -- Remove the rear lid. Installing: in reverse order Adjusting: -- Adjust the front height and the position of the hood lengthwise using the hood hinge. -- Adjust the rear height on the rear lid lock with the end plate. -- Align the hood so it is centered according to the gap dimensions (Scheme 53). -- Adjusting buffer stops Rear Lid Seal, Removing and Installing, refer to «HOOD SEAL»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids-coupe).

  6. Cover for lid lock Remove the lid trim before removing. When installing, the cover must engage securely in the lid lock.

Close the rear lid.

Note. If the lid is adjusted correctly, the stop buffers -2- must lightly contact the body when the lid is closed.

The stop buffers can be loosened or tightened as needed to be flush.

The buffers -3- must engage audibly when pressing them in and the hood trim -1- must be installed.

  1. Hood
  2. Hood hinge Removing -- On the lid side, only loosen the rear nut and remove both side nuts. -- Remove the nuts over the rear shelf and the hinge. Installing: -- Insert the hinge under the rear shelf and secure it lightly using the nuts. -- Position the lid on the hinge and secure it using the nuts. -- Engage the spring and the gas-filled strut. -- Close the lid carefully. -- Align the lid sideways and lengthwise.

Spring Engaging: -- With the lid closed, engage the spring first on the hinge side and then on the body side. -- On the left side of the vehicle, the spring eyes must face down on the retaining pins, as shown in the magnified section of the illustration. -- Up on the right side. Body engaging points: -- On the right side, engage the sprint at point -a-. -- On the left side, engage the spring at point -d- after installing the lid hinge end stop.
  2. Retaining screws Note the different directions for engaging the spring on the left and right. The spring eye faces down on the left side and up on the right side.

Disengage the sides of the cover from the spring and remove it back from the retaining pins.

Gas-Filled Strut, Disengaging

Lift the retaining springs -arrow- on the gas-filled strut -1- slightly using a small screwdriver and remove it from the ball stud -2-.

Lid hinge end stop

To remove, press the retainer on the clip to the side.

Clip the end stop -2- under the rear shelf -1- in the direction of the arrow.

The retainer on the clip must engage audibly.

Gas-Filled Strut, Releasing Gas

  1. Cover Before removing, remove the lid trim from the lid lock.

  3. Cover for lid lock When installing, cover must engage audibly in lid lock.
  4. Rear lid latch Before removal, remove lid lock cover. Remove the rear lid trim. Refer to «Removal and Installation»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-coupe) Disconnect electrical connector. If necessary, disengage the emergency release cable. Remove nuts and remove lid lock. Remove the lid lock with the clip from the centering hole.

  6. Centering clip To install, first press the lid lock with the clip into the centering hole.

  4. Release cable Unclip the cover before removing. First unclip from the cable bracket on the lid lock and then disengage from the operating lever.

  2. Lid seal To remove, remove seal from body flange. When installing, align the seal with the joint -arrow- toward the center of the vehicle. Beginning at the seam, press the seal all around onto the body flange.

Fuel filler door unlock motor -V 155- Removal: -- Fuel filler door removed -- Pull the comfort system central control module -J393- into the luggage compartment and pull it forward. -- Remove the fuel tank lid unlock motor -V 155- forward off the body flange and disconnect the electrical connector. Installing: -- Slide the fuel tank lid unlock motor -V 155- onto the flange and slide the emergency release into the luggage compartment.
  3. Fuel filler door Must be replaced after removing -- Guide cable through opening in fuel filler door cup. -- Insert fuel filler door diagonally until catches on protruding flange engage in side panel. -- Bolt the door and the door release motor together using the bolt -4-.

  5. Fuel filler door -- To remove, remove the bolt -3- and pull the fuel filler door diagonally out of the side panel beginning at the rear. -- Guide the emergency release cable through the opening in the fuel filler door cup.

Insert a screwdriver as shown between flap -2- and flap mount -1- and release the lug.

Pull flap slightly toward rear -arrow- out of lug.

Remove flap from the side.

Insert flap into cutout in mounts.

Slide lid -2- forward until locking mechanism -arrows- on mount -1- engages.

Remove Tank Flap Unit

Release the tank flap insert at the markings -arrows-.

To do this, insert a small screwdriver diagonally from underneath through the marking in the tank flap insert over the latches.

Gently lift the screwdriver and release the latches.

Pull the tank flap insert in steps out of its cut-out.

Fuel Filler Door Cup, Removing

Pull the fuel filler door down out of the body opening using a special hook 3370.

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Note the following.

To route the drain hose without kinking it, the edge of the drain hole in the fuel filler door cut up align with the edge of the hole in the body -arrow-.

  2. Cable for emergency release Insert the fuel tank lid unlock motor -V 155- with the cable over the tank opening as shown. Pull the cable back into the vehicle interior and connect it with the tab on the flange on the comfort system central control module -J393-.

  1. Drain hose -- Route the drain hose as shown under the wheel housing liner and insert it in the guide piece.

Remove the fuel tank lid unlock motor -V155-. Refer to FUEL FILLER DOOR UNLOCK MOTOR V155 .

Remove the emergency release cable -1- from the mounts on the fuel tank lid unlock motor -V155- - 3 - -arrow A- and -arrow B-.

Remove the retaining strap on the control -2- for the fuel filler door release.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Install the fuel tank lid unlock motor -V155-. Refer to FUEL FILLER DOOR UNLOCK MOTOR V155 .

Open the fuel filler door.

Release the retaining clips with a screwdriver in the gap between the trim -2- and the fuel filler door insert -1-.

Pull the trim just little from the tank flap cup arrow and remove it.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

The guides on the trim -2- must fit behind the mounts when it is installed on the tank flap cup -1- -arrows-, as illustrated.

Slide the trim forward until the clips audibly engage.

Check the gap dimensions. Refer to TANK FLAP GAP DIMENSIONS .

FUEL FILLER DOOR INSERT

Scheme 96: REMOVING

Remove the trim for the fuel filler door insert. Refer to TANK FLAP CUP TRIM .

Remove the fuel cap -3- for fuel tank filler tube.

Remove the screw -1-.

Carefully remove -arrow- the upper fuel filler door insert -2- from out of the opening in the body with the special hook 3370, as shown in the illustration.

  1. Tightening specifications, refer to «FUEL FILLER DOOR, FUEL FILLER INSERT AND EMERGENCY RELEASE ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids-coupe) .

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Install the tank flap cup trim. Refer to TANK FLAP CUP TRIM .

Remove the fuel filler door insert FUEL FILLER DOOR INSERT .

Remove the drain hose on the fuel filler door cup for the fuel tank filler tube. Refer to DRAIN HOSE FOR FUEL FILLER DOOR CUP FOR FUEL TANK FILLER TUBE .

Remove the fuel filler door cup -2- from the fuel tank filler tube -3-.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Slide the fuel filler door cup onto the fuel tank filler tube.

  1. The opening for the drain hose must vertically -1- point downward.

Make sure the rubber lip -arrow- inside the wheel housing is touching the body completely.

Install the drain hose for the fuel filler door cup for the fuel tank filler tube. Refer to DRAIN HOSE FOR FUEL FILLER DOOR CUP FOR FUEL TANK FILLER TUBE .

Install the tank flap insert. Refer to FUEL FILLER DOOR INSERT .

Remove the right rear wheel housing liner. Refer to REAR WHEEL HOUSING LINER ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

Remove the drain hose -1- from the clip -2-.

Remove the drain hose upward from the fuel filler door cup -arrow-.

Scheme 99: INSTALLING

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Attach the drain hose -1- to the fuel filler door cup -2-.

  1. The collar -arrow- on the drain hose must be on top.

Install the right rear wheel housing liner. Refer to REAR WHEEL HOUSING LINER ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .
