Installing

Align the new backrest heating element on the upholstery -1-.

CAUTIONMake sure the new backrest bolster heating elements are bonded so they line up with the old ones. Remove the protective films in the bonding sequence for the heating element area. When removing the protective film, make sure the heating element is not damaged and that it is attached without wrinkles.

Bond the individual areas of the heating element in the sequence -A, B, C and D-.

Route the connecting wires to the individual heating surfaces in the base of the gaps -arrows-.

Pull the wire -3- through the slit in the upholstery.

Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

BACKREST HEATING ELEMENT, SPORT SEAT

Remove the fixed rear seat backrest. Refer to REAR SEAT BACKREST, FIXED .

Remove headrest guides. Refer to HEADREST GUIDE .

Remove the center armrest, bracket and hinges. Refer to CENTER ARMREST, BRACKET AND HINGES, FIXED REAR SEAT BACKREST .

Remove the upper piping -1- on the backrest frame.

Unclip the side retaining channel -2, 3 and 4- from the backrest frame.

Pry off the lower retaining channel -5- from the backrest frame.

Disengage the cover from the upper backrest frame hooks -2-.

Disengage the side and lower piping -1, 3 and 4- on the backrest frame.

Remove cover with upholstery from backrest frame.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal.

FIXED REAR SEAT BACKREST, COVER AND PADDING, SEPARATING

Separating the cover from the cushion is described for a split rear seat backrest. Separating on a fixed rear seat backrest is similar.

HEADREST COVER

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  1. Trim Removal Wedge 3409
CAUTIONIt is only possible to replace the cover on the headrest with a leather cover. It is not possible to replace a fabric headrest cover because the cover is filled with foam and also serves as the casing for the upholstery. The headrest support is built into the upholstery. Both components are attached to each other and cannot be separated.

Remove the headrests HEADREST .

Press the sides of the upholstery away from the trim -1- in the direction of the -arrow-.

Bend the leg spring -2- up slightly using a wide screwdriver.

Pull the trim up at one side at the same time until it disengages on one side.

Perform the same step on the other side.

Remove the trim while bending the leg spring up.

Open the locking channel -1- and -2-.

Remove the cover -3- from the support with the upholstery.

Installing

Install cover -1-.

Position the cover and slide it over the support with upholstery -2-.

Pull the left and right corners of the cover -arrow- over the support with upholstery -2-.

Pull the cover so it is smooth.

Engage the locking channel -1-.

Bend the leg spring -2- up while sliding the trim -1- on.

Hold the leg spring -2- open until the trim -1- slides over the notches into the locked position.

Press the trim on firmly until it engages.

Align the cover -3- and pull it so it is smooth.

Make sure the cover lies on the upholstery without any wrinkles and without seam markings.

Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

LEG SPRING

Removing

Remove the headrests. Refer to HEADREST .

Remove trim. Refer to TRIM .

Remove the leg spring -2- from the trim support -1-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal.

SEAT HEATING ELEMENT

Removing

Remove the cover and upholstery from the bench seat. Refer to

Separate the cover from the upholstery. Refer to

Cut electrical wire -3- off directly at old seat heating element -2-.

Note. The old seat heating element remains on the upholstery -1- and the new seat heating element is bonded over it. Ignore -arrows A through E-.

Installing

Align the new heating element on upholstery.

CAUTIONMake sure the new seat heating element is affixed to the old heating element. Remove the protective films in the bonding sequence for the heating element area. When removing the protective film, make sure the heating element is not damaged and that it is attached without wrinkles.

Begin bonding the center are of the seat heating element -arrow C-.

Then bond the front area -arrow A-.

Route the connecting wires from the front to the rear heating surface in the base of the gaps -arrows B-.

Bond the rear area of the heating surface -arrow D-.

Pull the wire -3- through the slit in the upholstery -arrow E-.

Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

SUPER SPORT SEAT

The removal and installation procedure applies to the bench seat without the center storage compartment. The procedure is similar for the super sport seat.

  1. Upholstery Clip Pliers V.A.G 1634

Removing

Remove cover with upholstery. Refer to BENCH SEAT WITHOUT CENTER STORAGE COMPARTMENT .

Remove the cover -1- from the upholstery -3- as far as possible.

Unclip retaining channel -4- from clips -2-.

Remove the cover from the cushion as far as possible.

Cut through the upholstery clips -3- using pliers -4-.

Remove the cover -1- from the upholstery -2- as far as possible.

Unclip the retaining channel -2- on the cover -1- from the clips -3-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

When installing new upholstery clips, use the V.A.G 1634.

TRIM
