SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Vehicles with the Start/Stop System
| WARNING | Danger of injury through automatic motor starting with vehicles with the Start/Stop System. For vehicles with an activated Start/Stop System (recognizable from a notification in the instrument cluster), the motor can be started automatically if needed. Thus, make sure that the Start/Stop System is disabled when working on the vehicle (turn off ignition, if needed, turn the ignition back on). |
REPAIR INFORMATION
Carefulness, cleanliness and the correct tools are required for transmission repairs to be successful. The usual basic safety precautions also, naturally apply when carrying out vehicle repairs.
A number of generally applicable instructions for individual repair operations, which are otherwise mentioned at various points in the repair information, are summarized here. They apply to this repair information.
Special Tools and Equipment
Complete list of special tools used in this Workshop Information. See Service Net under Special Tools and Equipment.
Transmission
- Servicing, refer to «Disassembly and Assembly»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/manual-trans/#controls-housing-manual-transmission-internal-components-0b2-awd-sedan) .
- Allocate bolts and other components according to transmission code. Refer to Audi A4 «CODE LETTERS, ASSEMBLY ALLOCATION, RATIOS, CAPACITIES»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/manual-trans/#general-technical-data-manual-transmission-0b2-awd-sedan__code-letters-assembly-allocation-ratios-capacities) .
- Check the transmission fluid level when replacing the manual transmission and fill if necessary. Refer to «MANUAL TRANSMISSION, CHECKING TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/manual-trans/#controls-housing-manual-transmission-0b2-awd-sedan__manual-transmission-checking-transmission-fluid-level) .
- Capacities and specifications, refer to Audi A4 «CODE LETTERS, ASSEMBLY ALLOCATION, RATIOS, CAPACITIES»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/manual-trans/#general-technical-data-manual-transmission-0b2-awd-sedan__code-letters-assembly-allocation-ratios-capacities) .
- Always clean the connection locations and the area around them before loosening.
- When installing transmission, make sure that the alignment bushings are installed correctly.
Sealant
- Thoroughly clean the housing joint surfaces before applying the sealing compound.
- Apply sealing compound AMV 188 001 02 evenly and not too thickly.
- Do not allow any sealing compound to get into the ventilation holes.
O-rings, Shaft Seals, Seals
Scheme 200
- O-rings, shaft seals and seals must be replaced.
- After removing gaskets, examine contact surface on housing/shaft for burr resulting from removal or for other signs of damage.
- Thoroughly clean housing joint surfaces before assembling.
- Before installing the shaft seals, lightly oil the outer circumference and fill the space between the sealing lips -arrow- halfway with grease G 052 128 A1.
- The open side of the shaft seals point toward the fluid to be sealed in.
- Press in new shaft seal, so that the sealing lip does not run on the same point as the sealing lip of the old shaft seal (use insertion depth tolerances).
- Lightly lubricate O-rings before installing to prevent them from being crushed when inserting.
- After replacing the seals and sealing rings, check the transmission fluid level and fill if necessary. Refer to «MANUAL TRANSMISSION, CHECKING TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/manual-trans/#controls-housing-manual-transmission-0b2-awd-sedan__manual-transmission-checking-transmission-fluid-level) .
Fasteners
Scheme 201
- Do not overstretch the circlips.
- Always replace damaged or stretched circlips.
- The circlips must fit completely inside the groove.
- Replace the adapter sleeves. Installed position: Slit -A- should be in line with the line of force -arrow-.
Bolts and Nuts
- Loosen the bolts and nuts opposite the tightening sequence.
- Nuts and bolts which secure covers and housings should be loosened and tightened crosswise in stages if no tightening sequence is specified.
- Parts which are particularly sensitive to distortion must be kept straight when removing and installing; loosen or tighten diagonally in stages.
- The tightening specifications stated apply to non-oiled nuts and bolts.
- Always replace self-locking nuts and bolts.
- Use a wire brush to clean the threads of bolts that were screwed in with locking compound. Next, use locking compound AMV 185 101 A1 to install the bolts.
- Threaded holes into which self-locking bolts or bolts coated with locking fluid are screwed, must be cleaned (for example tap). Otherwise there is a risk that the bolts will shear the next time they are removed.
Clutch Mechanism
- When removing transmission, remove the clutch slave cylinder without opening the lines.
- If the clutch slave cylinder is removed with the hydraulic line attached, do not depress clutch pedal. Otherwise the piston will be pressed out of the clutch slave cylinder. The clutch slave cylinder will get damaged.
- If the clutch pedal does not return to the starting position (rest position) after recoupling it, bleed the clutch system. Additional information, refer to «CLUTCH MASTER OR SLAVE CYLINDER INFORMATION»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/clutches-manual-hydraulic/#clutch-manual-transmission-0b2-awd-sedan-as-of-032011__clutch-master-or-slave-cylinder-information) .
- To reduce odor caused by a burnt clutch, thoroughly clean the transmission housing around the clutch as well as the engine on the transmission side.
- Only use compressed air to clean the clutch module.
- Change the fluid for the clutch system at the same interval when changing the brake fluid for the brake system. Refer to «MAINTENANCE, DIAGNOSIS»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/procedures/#how-to-diagnosis-the-maintenance-maintenance-intervals-sedan)
TRANSMISSION IDENTIFICATION
- Allocation Audi A4, refer to «CODE LETTERS, ASSEMBLY ALLOCATION, RATIOS, CAPACITIES»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/manual-trans/#general-technical-data-manual-transmission-0b2-awd-sedan__code-letters-assembly-allocation-ratios-capacities)

REAR FINAL DRIVE 0BC AND 0BD IDENTIFICATION
The following rear final drives are allocated to the manual transmission 0B2 AWD, depending on the version and engine
- «REAR FINAL DRIVE 0BC»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/manual-trans/#general-technical-data-manual-transmission-0b2-awd-sedan__rear-final-drive-0bc)

Note. When installing a new rear final drive unit, the final drive code, the PR number and the vehicle engine code must be verified. This is the only to assure the correct allocation.
REAR FINAL DRIVE 0BC
Note. Code letters, transmission allocations, ratio and capacities, refer to Specifications . When repairing the driveshaft or the rear final drive, refer to Removal and Installation .

Note. "0AR" can always be found on the rear final drive housing. Changes to the housings is what differentiate the "0BC" and "0AR" final drives. They can also be distinguished by the location of the threaded holes -arrows- for securing the crossmember on the rear final drive. The final drive "0BC" has 4 threaded holes -arrows- in the housing for securing the crossmember There is also an additional threaded hole for securing the final drive to the subframe under the flange/driveshaft.
