General information on hydraulic system
| WARNING | When disconnecting the battery observe the necessary measures. See BATTERY DISCONNECT PRECAUTIONS . |
| WARNING | Secure the convertible top mechanism against unintended opening and closing during all assembly or disassembly procedures, as this can cause personal injury or vehicle damage. |
The hydraulic system is self-bleeding and maintenance-free.
When the hydraulic cylinder or hoses are replaced, no topping up the hydraulic fluid is necessary. The system contains sufficient hydraulic fluid so that the fluid level does not fall to or below the min. mark.
When operations are performed owing to loss of hydraulic fluid, the fluid level must be checked and rectified if necessary prior to operation.
Rules for cleanliness
| WARNING | Hydraulic fluid damages paintwork. For this reason, immediately remove any hydraulic fuel from painted surfaces. |
- Thoroughly clean all unions and the adjacent areas before disconnecting.
- Place removed parts on a clean surface and cover. Use sheeting and paper. Use lint-free cloths.
- Carefully cover or seal open components if repairs cannot be carried out immediately.
- Only install clean components: do not remove replacement parts from their wrapping until you are ready to install them.
- Place containers, plastic film or cloths under connections to be opened so that no hydraulic fluid comes into contact with painted surfaces.
- Shut off open hydraulic lines with closure caps to prevent hydraulic fluid from leaking out.

Hydraulic system, filling and bleeding
Note. The electrohydraulic convertible top actuation is designed as a closed hydraulic system. Filling is generally only necessary following loss of fluid (accident, leak etc.). Owing to the travel and the displacement effect of the piston in the hydraulic cylinder, the hydraulic system must be filled with the convertible top folded in the convertible top box. For this purpose, the convertible top must be moved via electrohydraulic actuation.
| WARNING | Do not fill the system above the "MAX" mark, as the pressure in the system may otherwise become so great that damage cannot be ruled out. |
Filling
- Remove luggage compartment trim: See «LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#interior-trim-cabriolet) .
- Unscrew oil filler bolt -arrow- (2 Nm).
- Fill with hydraulic fluid G 002 000 using an oil can until the fluid level is between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks.
Bleeding
Note. The hydraulic system is self-bleeding. When the convertible top has been opened and closed several times, the system is bled.
- Start the engine.
- Close and open the convertible top 4... 5 times using the electrohydraulic actuation. It must move continuously and jolt-free.
- Check the fluid level in the fluid container -2- with the convertible top folded into the convertible top box. The fluid level must be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks.
- Top up hydraulic fluid, if necessary.
