Rules for cleanliness
When working on the fuel supply/injection system, pay careful attention to the following "basic rules"
- Thoroughly clean all unions and the adjacent areas before disconnecting.
- Place parts that have been removed on a clean surface and cover. Do not use fluffy cloths!
- Carefully cover opened components or seal, if the repair cannot be carried out immediately.
- Only install clean components: Only unpack replacement parts immediately prior to installation. Do not use parts that have been stored loose (e.g. in tool boxes etc.).
- When the system is open: Do not work with compressed air. Do not move vehicle unless absolutely necessary.
| CAUTION | Before beginning repairs on the electrical system: Obtain the anti-theft radio security code. Switch the ignition off. Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap. On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar(R), switch-off the emergency (back-up) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting vehicle battery. See EMERGENCY BATTERY, SWITCHING OFF/ON . After reconnecting vehicle battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio. Also check operation of clock and power windows according to Repair Manual and/or Owner's Manual. After reconnecting vehicle battery on vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar(R), switch-on the emergency (back-up) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module. Note. Secure all hose connections with the correct hose clamps (same as original equipment) See Parts Catalog Hose clip pliers VAG 1921 are recommended when installing spring-type clamps. Always replace seals and gaskets when assembling.
