Scheme 2: Air Cleaner Element Inspection/Replacement
  1. Open the air cleaner housing cover (A).
  2. Remove the air cleaner element (B) from the air cleaner housing (C).
  3. Check the air cleaner element for damage or clogging. If it is damaged or clogged, replace it. NOTE: Do not use compressed air to clean the air cleaner element.
  4. Clean and remove any debris from inside the air cleaner housing.
  5. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. If the idle speed fluctuates, do the idle speed inspection (see «IDLE SPEED INSPECTION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/testing-diagnostics/#idle-control-system__idle-speed-inspection) ).

  1. Disconnect the breather pipe (A).
  2. Disconnect the MAF sensor/IAT sensor connector (B), then remove the intake air duct (C). NOTE: When tightening the screw of the hose band (D), align the edge of the hose band (E) with the mark (F) painted on the hose band. If you tighten the screw over the mark, replace the hose band.
  3. Remove the harness clamps (A) and the harness bracket (B).
  4. Remove the air cleaner (A).
  5. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. If the idle speed fluctuates, do the idle speed inspection (see «IDLE SPEED INSPECTION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/testing-diagnostics/#idle-control-system__idle-speed-inspection) ).

  1. Remove the air cleaner (see «AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/mechanical/#intake-manifold-and-exhaust-system) ).
  2. Do the battery removal procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/body-electrical/#battery) ).
  3. Remove the battery heat shield (A).
  4. Remove the front bumper (see «FRONT BUMPER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumpers__front-bumper-removalinstallation) ).
  5. Remove the left side headlight (see «HEADLIGHT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lights) ).
  6. Remove the air intake cover (A).
  7. Remove the driver's side front inner fender (see «FRONT INNER FENDER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/exterior-body-panels/#fenderwell__front-inner-fender-replacement) ).
  8. Remove the intake air tube (A).
  9. Remove the intake air resonator (A).
  10. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
  11. Do the battery installation procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/body-electrical/#battery) ).
  12. Install the air cleaner (see «AIR CLEANER ELEMENT INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/mechanical/#intake-manifold-and-exhaust-system) ).
  13. Do the head light adjustment procedure (see «HEADLIGHT ADJUSTMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lights__headlight-adjustment) ).

  1. Remove the engine cover.
  2. Disconnect the breather pipe (A).
  3. Remove the Intake air duct (B).
  4. Disconnect the PCV hose (A), the brake booster vacuum hose (B), the vacuum hose (C), and the IMT actuator connector (D).
  5. Disconnect the EVAP canister purge hose (A), the EVAP canister purge valve connector (B), the throttle body connector (C), and the MAP sensor connector (D).
  6. Disconnect and plug the water bypass hoses (E).
  7. Remove the upper cover mounting bolts and nuts sequentially in three steps, then remove the upper cover (A).
  8. Remove the intake manifold mounting bolts and nuts sequentially in three steps.
  9. Remove the intake manifold.

  1. Install the intake manifold. Tighten the bolts and nuts sequentially in three steps. Always use a new intake manifold gasket. Specified Torque 8 x 1.25 mm: 22 N.m (2.2 kgf.m, 16 lbf.ft)
  2. Install the upper cover (A). Tighten the bolts and nuts sequentially in three steps. Always use a new gasket. Specified Torque 6 x 1.0 mm: 12 N.m (1.2 kgf.m, 9 lbf.ft)
  3. Connect the water bypass hoses (A).
  4. Connect the MAP sensor connector (B), the throttle body connector (C), the EVAP canister purge valve connector (D), and the EVAP canister purge hose (E).
  5. Connect the IMT actuator connector (A), the vacuum hose (B), the brake booster vacuum hose (C), and the PCV hose (D).
  6. Install the intake air duct (A). NOTE: When tightening the screw of the hose band (B), align the edge of the hose band (C) with the mark (D) painted on the hose band. If you tighten the screw over the mark, replace the hose band.
  7. Connect the breather pipe (E).
  8. Install the engine cover.
  9. Clean up any spilled engine coolant.
  10. After installation, check that all tubes, hoses, and connectors are installed correctly.
  11. Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed the air from the cooling system (see «COOLANT CHECK»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ).

  1. Relieve the fuel pressure (see «FUEL PRESSURE RELIEVING»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system__fuel-pressure-relieving) ).
  2. Remove the drive belt (see «DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/charging-system/#charging-system__drive-belt-replacement) ).
  3. Remove the power steering pump and the power steering hose bracket (see step 6 under «CYLINDER HEAD REMOVAL»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/mechanical/#cylinder-head) ).
  4. Remove the intake manifold (see «REMOVAL»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/mechanical/#intake-manifold-and-exhaust-system) ).
  5. Remove the injectors (see «INJECTOR REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/testing-diagnostics/#pgm-fi-system) ).
  6. Remove the harness holder mounting bolt (A) and disconnect the knock sensor connector (B).
  7. Remove the injector base mounting bolts/nuts (A), then remove the front injector base (B) and the rear injector base (C).

  1. Install the front injector base (A) and the rear injector base (B) with new gaskets (C), and tighten the injector base mounting bolts/nuts (D) in a crisscross pattern in three steps, beginning with the inner nuts. NOTE: The front injector base gasket is different from the rear one. Do not mix injector base gasket types.
  2. Connect the knock sensor connector (A) and install the harness holder mounting bolt (B).
  3. Install the injectors (see «INJECTOR REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/testing-diagnostics/#pgm-fi-system) ).
  4. Install the intake manifold (see «INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/mechanical/#intake-manifold-and-exhaust-system) ).
  5. Install the power steering pump and the power steering hose bracket (see step 25 under «CYLINDER HEAD INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/mechanical/#cylinder-head) ).
  6. Install the drive belt (see «DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/charging-system/#charging-system__drive-belt-replacement) ).
  7. Inspect for fuel leaks. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode (do not operate the starter) so the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds and pressurizes the fuel line. Repeat this operation three times, then check for fuel leakage at any point in the fuel line.

Exhaust Pipe and Muffler Replacement

Note. Use new gaskets and new self-locking nuts when reassembling.
