Note. Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces. To avoid damaging the wiring and terminals, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion. Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection. Also, be sure that they do not contact other wiring or hoses, or interfere with other parts.

  1. Remove the passenger's side front fender trim (see «FRONT FENDER TRIM REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim__front-fender-trim-replacement) ).
  2. Pry the hood support strut clip, and release the hood support strut (see step 1 under «HOOD SUPPORT STRUT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood) ), then move the hood to a vertical position and install the hood prop bar as shown in illustration.
  3. Relieve the fuel pressure (see «FUEL PRESSURE RELIEVING»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system__fuel-pressure-relieving) ).
  4. Drain the power steering fluid (see «FLUID CHECK/REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/manual-power-steering/#hydraulic-power-steering-components__fluid-checkreplacement) ).
  5. Remove the bulkhead cover (see «FRONT BULKHEAD COVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim__front-bulkhead-cover-replacement) ).
  6. Do the battery removal procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/body-electrical/#battery) ).
  7. Remove the engine cover.
  8. Remove the air cleaner (see «AIR CLEANER ELEMENT INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/mechanical/#intake-manifold-and-exhaust-system) ).
  9. Remove the battery heat shield (A), then remove the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box (B) and the harness clamps (C).
  10. Remove the harness clamp (A) arid the bolts (B) and loosen the bolts (C), then remove the battery base (D).
  11. Disconnect the positive starter cable (A) and the connector (B), then remove the harness clamps (C).
  12. Remove the shift cable (see «SHIFT CABLE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission) ). Do not bend the shift cable excessively.
  13. Remove the quick-connect fitting cover (A), then disconnect the fuel feed hose (B) (see «FUEL LINE/QUICK-CONNECT FITTING REMOVAL»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system__fuel-linequick-connect-fitting-removal) ).
  14. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose (A), the EVAP canister hose (B), and the breather hose (C).
  15. Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve connector (D).
  16. Remove the steering joint cover (A).
  17. Make a reference mark (B) across the steering joint (C) and the steering gearbox pinion shaft (D). Loosen the steering joint bolt (E) and the steering joint bolt (F). Then install the steering wheel holder tool.
  18. Remove the steering joint bolt, then disconnect the steering joint from the steering gearbox pinion shaft.
  19. Disconnect the positive alternator cable (A) from the under-hood fuse/relay box and remove the harness clamps (B).
  20. Remove the bracket (A), then remove the PCM cover (B).
  21. Remove the harness clamps (A) and disconnect the PCM connectors (B) and the engine wire harness connector (C), then remove the PCM (D).
  22. Remove the A/C receiver line clamp (A) and the connector (B) from the PCM bracket (C), then remove the PCM bracket and the harness bracket (D).
  23. Remove the drive belt (see «DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/charging-system/#charging-system__drive-belt-replacement) ).
  24. Disconnect the power steering pump inlet hose (A) and the power steering pump outlet hose (B) from the power steering pump, then plug the power steering hoses and the power steering pump.
  25. Remove the power steering hose bracket (C) from the rear cylinder head cover.
  26. Wait until the engine is cool, then carefully remove the radiator cap.
  27. Raise the vehicle on the lift.
  28. Remove the front wheels.
  29. Remove the splash shield (see «FRONT SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/exterior-body-panels/#fenderwell__front-splash-shield-replacement) ) and the engine undercover (see «ENGINE UNDERCOVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/exterior-body-panels/#fenderwell__engine-undercover-replacement) ).
  30. Loosen the drain plug in the radiator, and drain the engine coolant (see «COOLANT CHECK»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ).
  31. Drain the engine oil (see «ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/lubrication-system/#engine-lubrication) ).
  32. Drain the ATF (see «ATF REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission__atf-replacement) ).
  33. Remove the front subframe stiffener.
  34. Remove exhaust pipe A.
  35. Separate the stabilizer links from the dampers (see «BUSHING REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension) ).
  36. Separate the tie-rod end ball joints from the knuckles (see step 19 under «STEERING GEARBOX REMOVAL»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/manual-power-steering/#hydraulic-power-steering-components__steering-gearbox-removal) ).
  37. Separate the knuckles from the suspension lower arms (see step 4 under «LOWER ARM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension__lower-arm-removalinstallation) ).
  38. Remove the driveshafts (see «DRIVESHAFT INSPECTION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/axle-shafts/#drivelineaxle__driveshaft-inspection) ). Coat all precision-finished surfaces with new engine oil. Tie plastic bags over the driveshaft ends.
  39. Remove the propeller shaft from the transfer shaft flange (see «PROPELLER SHAFT RUNOUT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/axle-shafts/#drivelineaxle) ).
  40. Remove the transfer assembly (see «TRANSFER ASSEMBLY REMOVAL»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission) ).
  41. Disconnect the power steering fluid hose (A). Turn end of the hose up to prevent power steering fluid from flowing out, then plug the line and the hose.
  42. Disconnect the PSP switch connector (A).
  43. With ECPS: Disconnect the ECPS valve motor connector (A).
  44. Remove the lower transmission mount mounting bolts (A) and the ground cable (B).
  45. Remove the power steering line bracket (A), then remove the rear engine mount base mounting bolts (B).
  46. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
  47. Remove the radiator (see «RADIATOR REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ).
  48. Disconnect the A/C compressor clutch connector (A), then remove the A/C compressor (B) without disconnecting the A/C hoses. Do not bend the A/C hoses excessively. NOTE: Hang the A/C compressor with a wire tie.
  49. Disconnect the heater hoses (A).
  50. Remove the connector bracket (A) from the front cylinder head; use the bracket bolt hole (B) to attach the engine hanger balance bar front arm.
  51. Remove the engine mount control solenoid valve bracket (A) from the rear cylinder head; use the bracket bolt hole (B) to attach the engine hanger balance bar rear arm.
  52. Remove the service caps (A) for the front damper flange nuts from the cowl cover (B). Position the engine hanger adapter set (VSB02C000031) with the "FRONT" mark facing forward over the damper flange nuts.
  53. Install the engine hanger balance bar (VSB02C000019). Attach the front arm (A) to the front cylinder head with several spacers (B) and a 10 x 1.25 mm bolt (C), attach the rear arm (D) to the rear cylinder head with a spacer (E) and an 8 x 1.25 mm bolt (F).
  54. Install the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) onto the vehicle as shown, and attach the hook to the slotted hole in the engine hanger balance bar. Tighten the wing nut (G) by hand, and lift and support the engine/transmission. NOTE: Be careful when working around the windshield. Be careful not to damage the hood opener cable when installing the engine support hanger at the front bulkhead. AAR-T1256 two sets required for stacking additional cross section bar.
  55. Disconnect the front engine mount control solenoid valve hose (A) and remove the front engine mount stop (B), then remove the front engine mount bolt (C).
  56. Raise the vehicle on the lift.
  57. With active damper system: Disconnect the front suspension stroke sensor connectors (A) and remove the harness clamps (B) on both sides.
  58. Attach the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) to the front subframe by looping the belt (A) over the front of the front subframe (B), then secure the belt with its stop (C).
  59. Raise the transmission jack and line up the slots in the subframe adapter arms with the bolt holes on the jack base, then securely attach them with four bolts.
  60. Remove the six 12 x 1.25 mm bolts (A) securing the subframe stiffeners (B), the four subframe mounting bolts (C), and the stiffeners, then lower the front subframe (D).
  61. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
  62. Attach a chain hoist (A) to the engine hanger (B) and the transmission hanger (C), then lift the engine/transmission until it's securely supported by the chain hoist and remove the engine support hanger, the engine hanger balance bar, and the engine hanger adapter set.
  63. Remove the mounting bolts from the upper half of the side engine mount bracket.
  64. Check that the engine/transmission is completely free of the vacuum hoses, the fuel hoses, the coolant hoses, and the electrical wiring.
  65. Slowly lower the engine/transmission about 150 mm (5.91 in). Check once again that all the hoses and the electrical wiring are disconnected and free from the engine/transmission, then lower it all the way and support it.
  66. Disconnect the chain hoist from the engine/transmission.
  67. Raise the vehicle, and remove the engine/transmission from under the vehicle.

  1. Install the engine mount bracket and the accessory brackets, then tighten their bolts to the specified torque.
  2. Position the engine/transmission under the vehicle. Be sure that they are properly aligned. Carefully lower the vehicle until the engine/transmission are properly positioned in the engine compartment. Make sure the vehicle is not resting on any part of the engine/transmission. Support the engine/transmission with a chain hoist (A) and carefully raise the engine/transmission into place. NOTE: Reinstall the mounting bolts/support nuts in the sequence given in the following steps. Failure to follow this sequence may cause excessive noise and vibration, and reduce engine mount life.
  3. Remove the service caps (A) for the front damper flange nuts from the cowl cover (B). Position the engine hanger adapter set (VSB02C000031) with the "FRONT" mark facing forward over the damper flange nuts.
  4. Install the engine hanger balance bar (VSB02C000019). Attach the front arm (A) to the front cylinder head with several spacers (B) and a 10 x 1.25 mm bolt (C), attach the rear arm (D) to the rear cylinder head with a spacer (E) and an 8 x 1.25 mm bolt (F).
  5. Install the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) onto the vehicle as shown, and attach the hook to the slotted hole in the engine hanger balance bar. Tighten the wing nut (G) by hand, and lift and support the engine/transmission. NOTE: Be careful when working around the windshield. Be careful not to damage the hood opener cable when installing the engine support hanger at the front bulkhead. AAR-T1256 two sets required for stacking additional cross section bar.
  6. Install the new mounting bolts into the upper half of the side engine mount bracket. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
  7. Remove the chain hoist, then raise the vehicle on the lift.
  8. Using the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) and a transmission jack, raise the front subframe up to the body.
  9. Loosely install the new front subframe mounting bolts (four) (A), the 12 x 1.25 mm bolts (four) (B), new bolts (two) (C), and the stiffeners (D).
  10. Align the front subframe with the subframe alignment pin (see «FRONT SUBFRAME ALIGNMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/exterior-body-panels/#frame) ).
  11. Remove the transmission jack and the subframe adapter.
  12. Tighten the lower transmission mount mounting bolts (A) and the ground cable (B).
  13. Tighten the rear engine mount base mounting bolts (A) and new mounting bolts (B), then install the power steering line bracket (C).
  14. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
  15. Remove the engine support hanger, the engine hanger balance bar, and the engine hanger adapter set, then install the service caps to the cowl cover.
  16. Tighten the new front engine mount bolt (A), then install the new front engine mount stop mounting nuts (B) and connect the front engine mount control solenoid valve hose (C).
  17. Loosen the mounting bolts for the upper half of the side engine mount bracket, then retighten them to the specified torque.
  18. Install the A/C compressor (A), then connect the A/C compressor clutch connector (B).
  19. Install the radiator (see «RADIATOR REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ).
  20. Raise the vehicle on the lift.
  21. With active damper system: Connect the front suspension stroke sensor connectors (A) and install the harness clamps (B) on both sides.
  22. Connect the power steering fluid hose (A) to the line (B), and secure the hose with its hose clamp (C).
  23. Connect the PSP switch connector (A).
  24. With ECPS: Connect the ECPS valve motor connector (A).
  25. Install the transfer assembly (see «TRANSFER ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission) ).
  26. Install the propeller shaft onto the transfer shaft flange (see «PROPELLER SHAFT INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/axle-shafts/#drivelineaxle) ).
  27. Wipe the driveshaft clean. Install a new set ring on the end of each driveshaft, then install the driveshafts (see «FRONT DRIVESHAFT INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/axle-shafts/#drivelineaxle__front-driveshaft-installation) ). Make sure each ring "clicks" into place in the differential and the intermediate shaft.
  28. Connect the suspension lower arms to the knuckles (see step 4 under «LOWER ARM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension__lower-arm-removalinstallation) ).
  29. Connect the tie-rod end ball joints to the knuckles (see step 33 under «STEERING GEARBOX INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/manual-power-steering/#hydraulic-power-steering-components) ).
  30. Connect the stabilizer links to the dampers (see «BUSHING REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension) ).
  31. Install exhaust pipe A using new gaskets (B) and new self-locking nuts (C).
  32. Install the front subframe stiffener (A) using new bolts (B).
  33. Install the splash shield (see «FRONT SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/exterior-body-panels/#fenderwell__front-splash-shield-replacement) ) and the engine undercover (see «ENGINE UNDERCOVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/exterior-body-panels/#fenderwell__engine-undercover-replacement) ).
  34. Install the front wheels.
  35. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
  36. Connect the heater hoses (A).
  37. Install the connector bracket (A) to the front cylinder head.
  38. Install the engine mount control solenoid valve bracket (A) to the rear cylinder head.
  39. Connect the power steering pump outlet hose (A) with a new O-ring (B), and connect the power steering pump inlet hose (C).
  40. Install the power steering hose bracket (D) to the rear cylinder head cover.
  41. Install the drive belt (see «DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/charging-system/#charging-system__drive-belt-replacement) ).
  42. Install the PCM bracket (A) and the harness bracket (B), then install the A/C receiver line clamp (C) and the connector (D) to the PCM bracket.
  43. Install the PCM (A), then connect the PCM connectors (B) and the engine wire harness connector (C) and install the harness clamps (D).
  44. Install the PCM cover (A), then installthe bracket (B).
  45. Connect the positive alternator cable (A) to the under-hood fuse/relay box and install the harness clamps (B).
  46. Align the reference mark (A) on the steering joint (B) and the steering gearbox pinion shaft (C). Connect the steering joint to the steering gearbox pinion shaft. Loosely the steering joint bolts (D), then remove the steering wheel holder tool.
  47. Install the steering joint cover (E).
  48. Tighten the steering joint bolts.
  49. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose (A), the EVAP canister hose (B), and the breather hose (C).
  50. Connect the EVAP canister purge valve connector (D).
  51. Connect the fuel feed hose (A), then install the quick-connect fitting cover (B) (see «FUEL LINE/QUICK-CONNECT FITTING INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system__fuel-linequick-connect-fitting-installation) ).
  52. Install the shift cable (see «SHIFT CABLE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission) ).
  53. Install the harness clamps (A), then connect the positive starter cable (B) and the connector (C). Make sure the crimped side of the ring terminal faces away from the starter when you connect it.
  54. Install the battery base (A), then install the harness clamp (B) and the bolts (C).
  55. Install the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box (A) and the harness clamps (B), then install the battery heat shield (C).
  56. Install the air cleaner (see «AIR CLEANER ELEMENT INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/mechanical/#intake-manifold-and-exhaust-system) ).
  57. Install the engine cover.
  58. Do the battery installation procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/body-electrical/#battery) ).
  59. Install the bulkhead cover (see «FRONT BULKHEAD COVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim__front-bulkhead-cover-replacement) ).
  60. Inspect for fuel leaks. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II) (do not operate the starter) so the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds and pressurizes the fuel line. Repeat this operation three times, then check for fuel leaks at any point in the fuel line.
  61. Refill the engine with engine oil (see «ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/lubrication-system/#engine-lubrication) ).
  62. Refill the transmission with ATF (see step 10 under «ATF REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission__atf-replacement) ).
  63. Move the shift lever to each gear, and verify that the A/T gear position indicator follows the transmission range switch.
  64. Refill the reservoir with power steering fluid (see «FLUID CHECK/REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/manual-power-steering/#hydraulic-power-steering-components__fluid-checkreplacement) ).
  65. Refill the radiator with engine coolant (see «COOLANT CHECK»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ).
  66. Do the power steering system bleeding procedure (see step 4 under «FLUID CHECK/REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/manual-power-steering/#hydraulic-power-steering-components__fluid-checkreplacement) ).
  67. Do the cooling system bleeding procedure (see step 7 under «COOLANT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ).
  68. Remove the hood prop bar, then reattach the hood support strut on the pivot bolt (see step 2 under «HOOD SUPPORT STRUT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood) )
  69. Install the passenger's side front fender trim (see «FRONT FENDER TRIM REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim__front-fender-trim-replacement) ).
  70. Check for fluid leaks.
  71. Do the PCM reset procedure (see «IF THE MIL DID NOT STAY ON»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/testing-diagnostics/#fuel-and-emissions-systems__if-the-mil-did-not-stay) ).
  72. Do the CKP pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure (see «CKP PATTERN CLEAR/CKP PATTERN LEARN»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/testing-diagnostics/#fuel-and-emissions-systems) ).
  73. Inspect the idle speed (see «IDLE SPEED INSPECTION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/testing-diagnostics/#idle-control-system__idle-speed-inspection) ).
  74. Inspect the ignition timing (see «IGNITION TIMING INSPECTION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/ignition-system/#ignition-system) ).
  75. Check the wheel alignment (see «WHEEL ALIGNMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/wheel-alignment/#front-and-rear-suspension-inspection__wheel-alignment) ).

  1. Remove the passenger's side front fender trim (see «FRONT FENDER TRIM REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim__front-fender-trim-replacement) ).
  2. Remove the bracket, then remove the PCM cover (see step 20 ).
  3. Remove the harness clamps and disconnect the PCM connectors and the engine wire harness connector, then remove the PCM (see step 21 ).
  4. Remove the A/C receiver line clamp and the connector from the PCM bracket, then remove the PCM bracket and the harness bracket (see step 22 ).
  5. Lift and support the engine with a jack and a wood block under the oil pan.
  6. Remove the ground cable bracket (A), then remove the upper half of the side engine mount bracket (B).
  7. Remove the side engine mount (A).

  1. Install the side engine mount (A).
  2. Loosely install the upper half of the side engine mount bracket (A) using new bolts.
  3. Install the ground cable bracket (B).
  4. Remove the jack and the wood block.
  5. Tighten the mounting bolts in the numbered sequence shown in illustration.
  6. Install the PCM bracket and the harness bracket, then install the A/C receiver line clamp and the connector to the PCM bracket (see step 42 ).
  7. Install the PCM, then connect the PCM connectors and the engine wire harness connector and install the harness clamps (see step 43 ).
  8. Install the PCM cover, then install the bracket (see step 44 ).
  9. Install the passenger's side front fender trim (see «FRONT FENDER TRIM REPLACEMENT»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim__front-fender-trim-replacement) ).

  4. Remove the power steering line bracket (A), then remove the rear engine mount base mounting bolts (B).

  7. Remove the rear engine mount from the rear engine mount base.

  5. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
  6. Tighten the new rear engine mount bolt (A), then install the rear engine mount stop (B) using new nuts (C).
