DTC P0461: Fuel Level Sensor (Fuel Gauge Sending Unit) Circuit Range/Performance Problem

Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ). Because it requires 162 miles (260 km) of driving without refueling to complete this diagnosis, DTC P0461 cannot be duplicated during this troubleshooting.

  1. Test the fuel gauge sending unit (see «FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT TEST»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl__fuel-gauge-sending-unit-test) ). Is the fuel gauge sending unit OK? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the fuel gauge sending unit and the gauge control module. NO -Replace the fuel gauge sending unit (see «FUEL PUMP/FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl) ), then go to step 2.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  3. Reset the ECM/PCM with the HDS.
  4. Do the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure (see «ECM/PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#idle-control-system-4-cyl__ecmpcm-idle-learn-procedure) ).
  5. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Are any Pending or Confirmed DTCs indicated? YES -Go to the indicated DTCs troubleshooting. IMO-Troubleshooting is complete.

DTC P0462: Fuel Level Sensor (Fuel Gauge Sending Unit) Circuit Low Voltage

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  2. Clear the DTC with the HDS, and wait 5 seconds.
  3. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P0462 indicated? YES -Go to step 4. NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the gauge control module and the fuel gauge sending unit.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  5. Remove the rear seat; sedan model (see «REAR SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - SEDAN»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-4-cyl) ), sport wagon model (see «REAR SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - SPORT WAGON»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-4-cyl) ).
  6. Remove the fuel tank unit access panel from the floor (see «FUEL TANK UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl__fuel-tank-unit-removal-and-installation) ).
  7. Disconnect the fuel tank unit 4P connector.
  8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  9. Clear the DTC with the HDS, and wait 5 seconds.
  10. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P0463 indicated? YES -Replace the fuel gauge sending unit (see «FUEL PUMP/FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl) ), then go to step 23 . NO -Go to step 11.
  11. Measure the voltage between fuel tank unit 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 16 . NO -Go to step 12.
  12. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  13. Remove the gauge control module (see «GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#gauges-4-cyl__gauge-control-module-replacement) ).
  14. Disconnect the gauge control module 32P connector.
  15. Check for continuity between fuel tank unit 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Repair short in the wire between the gauge control module (signal line) and the fuel gauge sending unit, then go to step 25 . NO -Replace the gauge control module (see «GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#gauges-4-cyl__gauge-control-module-replacement) ), then go to step 25 .
  16. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  17. Remove the fuel tank unit (see «FUEL TANK UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl__fuel-tank-unit-removal-and-installation) ).
  18. Connect the fuel tank unit 4P connector.
  19. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  20. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
  21. Set the float (A) to the E position.
  22. Check the fuel gauge. Does the gauge move to the empty position? YES -Go to step 30 . NO -Replace the gauge control module (see «GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#gauges-4-cyl__gauge-control-module-replacement) ), then go to step 23 .
  23. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  24. Reinstall all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
  25. Reconnect all connectors.
  26. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  27. Reset the ECM/PCM with the HDS.
  28. Do the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure (see «ECM/PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#idle-control-system-4-cyl__ecmpcm-idle-learn-procedure) ).
  29. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P0462 indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the gauge control module and the fuel gauge sending unit, then go to step 1 . NO -Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
  30. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  31. Reinstall all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
  32. Reconnect all connectors.
  33. Update the ECM/PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «ECM/PCM UPDATE»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#pgm-fi-system-4-cyl__ecmpcm-update) ), or substitute a known-good ECM/PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE ECM/PCM»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#fuel-and-emissions-systems-4-cyl__substituting-the-ecmpcm) ).
  34. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P0462 indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the gauge control module and the fuel gauge sending unit. If the ECM/PCM was updated, substitute a known-good ECM/PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE ECM/PCM»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#fuel-and-emissions-systems-4-cyl__substituting-the-ecmpcm) ), then recheck. If the ECM/PCM was substituted, go to step 1 . NO -If the ECM/PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the ECM/PCM was substituted, replace the original ECM/PCM (see «ECM/PCM REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#pgm-fi-system-4-cyl__ecmpcm-replacement) ). If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  2. Clear the DTC with the HDS, and wait 5 seconds.
  3. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P0463 indicated? YES -Go to step 4. NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the gauge control module and the fuel gauge sending unit.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  5. Remove the rear seat; sedan model (see «REAR SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - SEDAN»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-4-cyl) ), sport wagon model (see «REAR SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - SPORT WAGON»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-4-cyl) ).
  6. Remove the fuel tank unit access panel from the floor (see «FUEL TANK UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl__fuel-tank-unit-removal-and-installation) ).
  7. Disconnect the fuel tank unit 4P connector.
  8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  9. Measure the voltage between fuel tank unit 4P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 3. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 16 . NO -Go to step 10 . Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  10. Connect fuel tank unit 4P connector terminal No. 3 to body ground with a jumper wire.
  11. Remove the gauge control module (see «GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#gauges-4-cyl__gauge-control-module-replacement) ).
  12. Disconnect the gauge control module 32P connector.
  13. Check for continuity between gauge control module 32P connector terminal No. 18 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Go to step 15. NO -Repair open in the wire between the gauge control module (GND line) and the fuel gauge sending unit, then go to step 27 .
  14. Connect fuel tank unit 4P connector terminal No. 1 to body ground with a jumper wire.
  15. Check for continuity between gauge control module 32P connector terminal No. 6 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Replace the gauge control module (see «GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#gauges-4-cyl__gauge-control-module-replacement) ), then go to step 27 . NO -Repair open in the wire between the gauge control module (signal line) and the fuel gauge sending unit, then go to step 27 .
  16. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  17. Remove the fuel tank unit (see «FUEL TANK UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl__fuel-tank-unit-removal-and-installation) ).
  18. Test the fuel gauge sending unit (see «FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT TEST»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl__fuel-gauge-sending-unit-test) ). Is the fuel gauge sending unit OK? YES -Go to step 20. NO -Replace the fuel gauge sending unit (see «FUEL PUMP/FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl) ), then go to step 25 .
  19. Connect the fuel tank unit 4P connector.
  20. Reconnect the gauge control module 32P connector.
  21. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  22. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
  23. Set the float (A) to the F position.
  24. Check the fuel gauge. Does the gauge move to the full position? YES -Go to step 32 . NO -Replace the gauge control module (see «GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#gauges-4-cyl__gauge-control-module-replacement) ), then go to step 26.
  25. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  26. Reinstall all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
  27. Reconnect all connectors.
  28. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  29. Reset the ECM/PCM with the HDS.
  30. Do the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure (see «ECM/PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#idle-control-system-4-cyl__ecmpcm-idle-learn-procedure) ).
  31. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P0463 indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the gauge control module and the fuel gauge sending unit, then go to step 1 . NO -Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
  32. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  33. Reinstall all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
  34. Reconnect all connectors.
  35. Update the ECM/PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «ECM/PCM UPDATE»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#pgm-fi-system-4-cyl__ecmpcm-update) ), or substitute a known-good ECM/PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE ECM/PCM»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#fuel-and-emissions-systems-4-cyl__substituting-the-ecmpcm) ).
  36. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P0463 indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the gauge control module and the fuel gauge sending unit. If the ECM/PCM was updated, substitute a known-good ECM/PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE ECM/PCM»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#fuel-and-emissions-systems-4-cyl__substituting-the-ecmpcm) ), then recheck. If the ECM/PCM was substituted, go to step 1 . NO -If the ECM/PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the ECM/PCM was substituted, replace the original ECM/PCM (see «ECM/PCM REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#pgm-fi-system-4-cyl__ecmpcm-replacement) ). If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

Fuel Pump Circuit Troubleshooting

If you suspect a problem with the fuel pump, check that the fuel pump actually runs; when it is on, you will hear some noise if you listen to the fuel fill port with the fuel fill cap removed. The fuel pump should run for 2 seconds when the ignition switch is turned to ON (II). If the fuel pump does not make noise, check as follows.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  2. Remove the driver's dashboard lower cover (see «DRIVER'S DASHBOARD LOWER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#dashboard-4-cyl__drivers-dashboard-lower-cover-removalinstallation) ).
  3. Remove PGM-FI main relay 2 (A) from the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  5. Measure the voltage between PGM-FI main relay 2 4P connector terminal No. 4 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 14 . NO -Go to step 6.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  7. Remove PGM-FI main relay 1 (A) and the ETCS control relay (B) from the under-hood fuse/relay box.
  8. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
  9. Disconnect ECM/PCM connector A (49P).
  10. Disconnect the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector F (33P).
  11. Disconnect the engine wire harness C101 connector at left side of engine compartment.
  12. Connect PGM-FI main relay 1 4P connector terminal No. 2 to body ground with a jumper wire.
  13. Check for continuity between driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector F (33P) terminal No. 31 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Replace PGM-FI main relay 1. If needed, replace the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box (see «DRIVER'S UNDER-DASH FUSE/RELAY BOX (MICU) REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuses-circuit-breakers/#under-dash-fuserelay-box-4-cyl__drivers-under-dash-fuserelay-box-micu-removal) ). NO - Repair open in the wire between the under-hood fuse/relay box and the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box. If the wire is OK, replace the under-hood fuse/relay box (see «DRIVER'S UNDER-DASH FUSE/RELAY BOX (MICU) REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuses-circuit-breakers/#under-dash-fuserelay-box-4-cyl__drivers-under-dash-fuserelay-box-micu-removal) ).
  14. Measure the voltage between PGM-FI main relay 2 4P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 15 . NO - Check the No. 9 FUEL PUMP (20 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box. If the fuse is OK, replace the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box (see «DRIVER'S UNDER-DASH FUSE/RELAY BOX (MICU) REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuses-circuit-breakers/#under-dash-fuserelay-box-4-cyl__drivers-under-dash-fuserelay-box-micu-removal) ).
  15. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  16. Connect PGM-FI main relay 2 4P connector terminal No. 3 to body ground with a jumper wire.
  17. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
  18. Disconnect ECM/PCM connector A (49P).
  19. Check for continuity between body ground and ECM/PCM connector terminal A16. Is there continuity? YES -Go to step 20. NO -Repair open in the wire between PGM-FI main relay 2 and the ECM/PCM (A16).
  20. Reinstall PGM-FI main relay 2.
  21. Connect ECM/PCM connector terminal A7 to body ground with a jumper wire.
  22. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  23. Measure the voltage between ECM/PCM connector terminal A16 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 24. NO -Replace PGM-FI main relay 2.
  24. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  25. Reconnect all connectors.
  26. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and measure the voltage between driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector F (33P) terminal No. 22 and body ground within 2 seconds. Is there battery voltage? YES -Update the ECM/PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «ECM/PCM UPDATE»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#pgm-fi-system-4-cyl__ecmpcm-update) ), or substitute a known-good ECM/PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE ECM/PCM»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#fuel-and-emissions-systems-4-cyl__substituting-the-ecmpcm) ), then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away and the ECM/PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the symptom/indication goes away and the ECM/PCM was substituted, replace the original ECM/PCM (see «ECM/PCM REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#pgm-fi-system-4-cyl__ecmpcm-replacement) ). NO -Go to step 27.
  27. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and measure the voltage between driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector F (33P) terminal No. 22 and body ground after 2 seconds. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 28. NO -Replace the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box (see «DRIVER'S UNDER-DASH FUSE/RELAY BOX (MICU) REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuses-circuit-breakers/#under-dash-fuserelay-box-4-cyl__drivers-under-dash-fuserelay-box-micu-removal) ).
  28. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  29. Remove the rear seat; sedan model (see «REAR SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - SEDAN»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-4-cyl) ), sport wagon model (see «REAR SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - SPORT WAGON»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-4-cyl) ).
  30. Remove the fuel tank unit access panel from the floor (see «FUEL TANK UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl__fuel-tank-unit-removal-and-installation) ).
  31. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and measure the voltage between fuel tank unit 4P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground within 2 seconds. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 36 . NO -Go to step 32.
  32. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  33. Remove PGM-FI main relay 2.
  34. Connect PGM-FI main relay 2 4P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 with a jumper wire.
  35. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and measure the voltage between fuel tank unit 4P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES -Replace PGM-FI main relay 2. NO - Repair open in the wire between the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box (D10) and the fuel tank unit 4P connector. If the wire is OK, replace the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box (see «DRIVER'S UNDER-DASH FUSE/RELAY BOX (MICU) REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuses-circuit-breakers/#under-dash-fuserelay-box-4-cyl__drivers-under-dash-fuserelay-box-micu-removal) ).
  36. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  37. Check for continuity between fuel tank unit 4P connector terminal No. 4 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Replace the fuel pump (see «FUEL PUMP/FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl) ). NO -Repair open in the wire between the fuel tank unit 4P connector and G603 (see «LEFT SIDE WIRE HARNESS (SEDAN)»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/body-electrical/#connectors-and-harnesses-4-cyl__left-side-wire-harness-sedan) ).

Fuel Pressure Relieving

Before disconnecting fuel lines or hoses, relieve pressure from the system by disabling the fuel pump and disconnecting the fuel line/quick connect fitting in the engine compartment.

  1. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the ECM/PCM. If it doesn't, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting (see «DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#pgm-fi-system-4-cyl__dlc-circuit-troubleshooting) ).
  4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  5. Remove the fuel fill cap to relieve the pressure in the fuel tank.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  7. From the INSPECTION MENU of the HDS, select Fuel Pump OFF, then start the engine, and let it idle until it stalls. NOTE: Do not allow the engine to idle above 1, 000 RPM or the ECM/PCM will continue to operate the fuel pump. A Pending or Confirmed DTC may be set during this procedure. Check for DTCs, and clear them as needed (see «HDS CLEAR COMMAND»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#fuel-and-emissions-systems-4-cyl__hds-clear-command) ).
  8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  9. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure (see «BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/body-electrical/#battery-4-cyl) ).
  10. Remove the quick-connect fitting cover (A) (see «FUEL LINE/QUICK-CONNECT FITTING REMOVAL»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl__fuel-linequick-connect-fitting-removal) ).
  11. Check the fuel quick-connect fitting for dirt, and clean it if needed.
  12. Place a rag or shop towel over the quick-connect fitting (A).
  13. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting (A): Hold the connector (B) with one hand, and squeeze the retainer tabs (C) with the other hand to release them from the locking tabs (D). Pull the connector off. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the line (E) or other parts. Do not use tools. If the connector does not move, keep the retainer tabs pressed down, and alternately pull and push the connector until it comes off easily. Do not remove the retainer from the line; once removed, the retainer must be replaced with a new one.

  2. Attach the fuel pressure gauge set and the fuel pressure gauge.
  3. Start the engine, and let it idle. If the engine starts, go to step 5 . If the engine does not start, go to step 4.
  4. Check to see if the fuel pump is running: Listen to the fuel filler port with the fuel fill cap removed. The fuel pump should run for 2 seconds when the ignition switch is first turned to ON (II). If the pump runs, go to step 5. If the pump does not run, do the fuel pump circuit troubleshooting (see «FUEL PUMP CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl__fuel-pump-circuit-troubleshooting) ).
  5. Read the fuel pressure gauge. The pressure should be 330-380 kPa (3.4-3.9 kgf/cm 2 , 48-55 psi) . If the pressure is OK, the test is complete. If the pressure is out of specification, replace the fuel pressure regulator (see «FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl) ) and the fuel filter (see «FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl) ), then recheck the fuel pressure.

Fuel Tank Draining

  1. Remove the fuel tank unit (see «FUEL TANK UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl__fuel-tank-unit-removal-and-installation) ).
  2. Using a hand pump, a hose, and a container suitable for fuel, draw the fuel from the fuel tank.

Fuel Line/Quick-Connect Fitting Precautions

The fuel line/quick-connect fittings (A, B, C, D, and E) connect the fuel rail (F) to the fuel feed hose (G), the fuel feed hose to the fuel line (H), the fuel line (I) to the fuel tank unit (J), the fuel vapor line (K) to the EVAP canister (L), and the fuel tank vapor recirculation tube (M). When removing or installing the fuel feed hose, the fuel tank unit, or the fuel tank, when disconnecting/connecting the quick-connect fittings, pay attention to the following

  1. The fuel feed hoses, the fuel line, and the quick-connect fittings are not heat-resistant; be careful not to damage them during welding or other heat-generating procedures.
  2. The fuel feed hoses, the fuel line, and the quick-connect fittings are not acid-proof; do not touch them with a shop towel that was used for wiping battery electrolyte. Replace them if they come in contact with electrolyte or something similar.
  3. When connecting or disconnecting the fuel feed hoses, the fuel line, and the quick-connect fittings, be careful not to bend or twist them excessively. Replace them if they are damaged.

  5. When you reconnect the connector with the old retainer, make sure the connection is secure and the tabs (A) are firmly locked into place; check visually and also by pulling the connector (B). When you replace the fuel line with a new one, make sure you remove the ring pull (C) upwards after you confirm the connection is secure. NOTE: Before you remove the ring pull, make sure the fuel line connection is secure. If the connection is not secure, the ring pull could break when you try to remove it.   1. Temporarily attach a new base gasket (A) to the fuel tank unit (B), then insert the fuel tank unit partially into the fuel tank. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the new base gasket. Be careful not to bend the fuel gauge sending unit. Do not coat the base gasket with oil.
  2. Transfer the base gasket (A) from the fuel tank unit to the fuel tank.
  3. Align the marks (B) on the fuel tank and the fuel tank unit, then insert the fuel tank unit into the fuel tank until the fuel tank unit rests on top of the base gasket. NOTE: To avoid a fuel leak, check the base gasket, visually or by hand, to make sure it is not pinched.
  4. Tighten a new locknut (A) by hand with a new locknut plate (B). NOTE: Before tightening, align the mark (C) on the locknut to the start of the thread (D).
  5. Using the special tool, tighten the locknut to the specified torque. NOTE: After tightening, make sure the marks (A) are still aligned. After installation, check the base gasket, visually or by hand, to make sure it is not pinched.
  6. Connect the fuel tank unit 4P connector, then connect the quick-connect fitting.
  7. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery, and turn the ignition switch to ON (II) (but do not operate the starter motor). The fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds, and fuel pressure rises. Repeat this two or three times, then make sure there are no fuel leaks.
  8. Install the access panel.

Fuel Filter Replacement

The fuel filter should be replaced whenever the fuel pressure drops below the specified value (see FUEL PRESSURE TEST ), after making sure that the fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator are OK.

  10. Remove the fuel tank protector (A).
  11. Place a jack or other support under the fuel tank (B).
  12. Remove the strap bolts (C) and the straps (D).
  13. Remove the fuel tank.
  14. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. NOTE: New fuel tanks have a ring pull (E) at the fuel vapor hose connector (F). When you connect the hose and confirm that the connection is secure, remove the ring pull by pulling it down. Before connecting the fuel fill pipe and the quick-connect fitting, check for dirt, and clean them if needed, taking care not to damage the fuel fill pipe or other parts. When installing the fuel tank protector, make sure to insert it into the clip (G) in the direction shown.

  8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  9. Remove the fuel tank unit from the fuel tank (see «FUEL TANK UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl__fuel-tank-unit-removal-and-installation) ).
  10. Measure the resistance between fuel tank unit 4P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 3 with the float at E (EMPTY), LOW (LOW FUEL INDICATOR), 1/2 (HALF FULL), and F (FULL) positions. If you do not get the following readings, replace the fuel gauge sending unit (see «FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl) ). TERMINAL RESISTANCE REFERENCE CHART Float Position F 6.1 in (155.2 mm) 1/2 3.8 in (97.6 mm) LOW 1.6 in (40.8 mm) E 0.6 in (15.9 mm) Resistance (Q) 19 to 21 202.4 to 212.4 503.5 to 614.3 772 to 788
  11. Reconnect the fuel tank unit 4P connector.
  12. Remove the No. 15 BACK UP (10 A) fuse from the under-hood fuse/relay box for at least 10 seconds, then reinstall it.
  13. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  14. Check that the pointer of the fuel gauge indicates F with the float at F. If the pointer of the fuel gauge does not indicate F, replace the gauge control module (see «GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#gauges-4-cyl__gauge-control-module-replacement) ). If the gauge is OK, the test is complete. NOTE: The pointer of the fuel gauge returns to the bottom of the gauge dial when the ignition switch is turned to ACC (I) or LOCK (0), regardless of the fuel level. Remove the No. 15 BACK UP (10 A) fuse from the under-hood fuse/relay box for at least 10 seconds after completing troubleshooting, otherwise it may take up to 20 minutes for the fuel gauge to indicate the correct fuel level.

Low Fuel Indicator Test

  1. Do the gauge self-diagnostic test (see «SELF-DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#gauges-4-cyl__self-diagnostic-function) ). If the low fuel indicator flashes, go to step 2. If the low fuel indicator does not flash, replace the gauge control module (see «GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#gauges-4-cyl__gauge-control-module-replacement) ).
  2. Check for body electrical system DTCs. If any DTCs are indicated, do the indicated DTCs troubleshooting. If no DTCs are indicated, go to step 3.
  3. Do the fuel gauge sending unit test (see «FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT TEST»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system-4-cyl__fuel-gauge-sending-unit-test) ).
