Removal (Passport, Rodeo, SLX & Trooper)

  1. Remove engine hood. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove front console and gear selector lever assembly. Remove transfer control lever.
  2. Remove air cleaner assembly and disconnect transmission electrical harness. Remove transfer case shield (if equipped). Make marks for reassembly reference and remove rear drive shaft. Remove nut from rear transmission mount. Support transmission with a transmission jack. Remove rear crossmember.
  3. Make marks for reassembly reference and remove front drive shaft. Remove exhaust pipe. Remove transmission oil cooler pipes. Remove front crossmember and stiffener bracket(s). Remove heat shields as necessary. Remove starter. Remove flywheel shield.
  4. Remove torque converter bolts. Remove engine-to-transmission mounting bolts. Remove transmission.

Installation (Passport, Rodeo, SLX & Trooper)

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure reference marks on drive shaft flanges align. Tighten all fasteners to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(/acura/slx/i-1995-1999/remont/automatic-trans/#removal-installation-at__torque-specifications) .
  2. If transmission was drained, fill transmission with Dexron-IIE ATF. If transfer chain case was drained, fill with SAE 5W-30 engine oil with SF rating. Adjust shift linkage if necessary.

Removal (Hombre)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Loosen front of oil pan and drain transmission fluid.
  2. Remove starter and drive shaft. Disconnect shift cable from transmission control lever and bracket. Remove rear drive shaft. Remove transfer case from transmission. Remove nut and washer from rear transmission mount-to-crossmember. Remove rear mount from transmission.
  3. Remove exhaust pipes from exhaust manifolds. Remove torque converter shield from transmission. Remove torque converter mounting bolts. Remove transmission mounted bracket from vent and cooling lines. Remove transmission-to-engine mounting bolts. Remove dipstick tube and plug opening.
  4. Disconnect and plug cooler lines. Disconnect all sensor connectors and wiring connectors. Support transmission with a transmission jack and safety chain. Secure torque converter in bellhousing. Remove transmission from vehicle.

Installation (Hombre)
