Scheme 1
Carbon Accumulation Check
Note. If the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) has been reported on, check for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Scheme 2
- Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Make sure the HDS communicates with the PCM. If it doesn't, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting (see «DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING»(/acura/rdx/i-2006-2009/remont/testing-diagnostics/#pgm-fi-system__dlc-circuit-troubleshooting) ).
- Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 RPM without load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
- Check the REL TP SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS. The reading should be below 2.46 deg. If it is not, clean the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(/acura/rdx/i-2006-2009/remont/mechanical/#intake-air-system__throttle-body-cleaning) ).
Throttle Position Learning Check
Note. If the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) has been reported on, check for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Scheme 3
- Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Make sure the HDS communicates with the PCM. If it doesn't, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting (see «DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING»(/acura/rdx/i-2006-2009/remont/testing-diagnostics/#pgm-fi-system__dlc-circuit-troubleshooting) ).
- Select the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.
- Do the TP POSITION CHECK in the ETCS TEST. If needed, clean the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(/acura/rdx/i-2006-2009/remont/mechanical/#intake-air-system__throttle-body-cleaning) ).
Throttle Body Cleaning
| CAUTION | Do not insert your fingers into the installed throttle body when you turn the ignition switch ON (II) or while the ignition switch is ON (II). If you do, you will seriously injure your fingers if the throttle valve is activated. |
Scheme 4
- Check for damage to the air cleaner. If the air cleaner is damaged, replace it (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(/acura/rdx/i-2006-2009/remont/mechanical/#intake-air-system__throttle-body-cleaning) ).
- Remove the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/rdx/i-2006-2009/remont/mechanical/#intake-air-system__throttle-body-removalinstallation) ).
- Clean off the carbon from the throttle valve and inside the throttle body with a paper towel soaked in throttle plate and induction cleaner. NOTE: Remove the throttle body to clean it. Be careful not to pinch your fingers. To avoid removing the molybdenum coating, do not clean the bearing area of the throttle shaft (A). Do not spray throttle plate and induction cleaner directly on the throttle body. Use Acura genuine throttle plate and induction cleaner.
- Install the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/rdx/i-2006-2009/remont/mechanical/#intake-air-system__throttle-body-removalinstallation) ).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS (see «HDS CLEAR COMMAND»(/acura/rdx/i-2006-2009/remont/auxiliary-emission-control-systems/#fuel-and-emissions-systems__hds-clear-command) ).
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and wait 2 seconds.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(/acura/rdx/i-2006-2009/remont/engine-control-systems/#idle-control-system__pcm-idle-learn-procedure) ).
Scheme 5
- Remove the battery upper bracket to avoid damaging the air cleaner.
- Loosen the screw of the hose band (A).
- Remove the bolts (B).
- Remove the MAF/IAT sensor connector (C) and harness clamps (D).
- Remove the air cleaner (E).
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
Note. Tighten the hose band screw (A) until the edge of the hose band (F) goes over the paint mark (G) up to 0.4 in. (11 mm).
Scheme 6
- Loosen the bolts (A), then open the air cleaner housing cover (B).
- Remove the air cleaner element (C) from the air cleaner housing (D).
- Check the air cleaner element for damage or clogging. If there is damage or clogging, replace the air cleaner element. NOTE: Do not use compressed air to clean the air cleaner element.
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. Clean and remove any debris from inside the air cleaner housing.
- If the maintenance minder indicated air cleaner replacement, reset the maintenance minder (see «MAINTENANCE MAIN ITEMS»(/acura/rdx/i-2006-2009/remont/reset-procedures/#maintenance) ).
Scheme 7
- Do the battery removal procedure (see «REMOVAL»(/acura/rdx/i-2006-2009/remont/body-electrical/#battery) ).
- Remove the under-hood sub fuse/relay box (A) from the battery base.
- Remove the air intake cover (B).
- Remove the bolts (C), then remove the resonator (D).
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
- Do the battery installation procedure (see «INSTALLATION»(/acura/rdx/i-2006-2009/remont/body-electrical/#battery) ).
Throttle Body Removal/Installation
| CAUTION | Do not insert your fingers into the installed throttle body when you turn the ignition switch ON (11) or while the ignition switch is ON (II). If you do, there will be serious injury to your fingers if the throttle valve is activated. |
Note. If you are replacing or cleaning the throttle body, start at step 1. If you are removing the throttle body, start at step 5 .
Scheme 8
- USA, Canada models: Connect the HDS to the DLC while the engine is stopped.
- USA, Canada models: Select the INSPECTION MENU on the HDS.
- USA, Canada models: Do the TP POSITION CHECK in the ETCS TEST.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0)
- Remove the charge air cooler (see «CHARGE AIR COOLER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/rdx/i-2006-2009/remont/exhaust/#intake-manifold-and-exhaust-system) ), then remove the intake air duct (charge air cooler outlet tube) (A).
- Disconnect the throttle body connector (B), the water bypass hoses (C), and the vacuum hose (D). NOTE: Plug the water bypass hoses after disconnecting them.
- Remove the throttle body (E).
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal with a new gasket (F). NOTE: When torquing the screw of the hose band (G), align the edge of the hose band (H) with the mark (I) painted on the hose band. If you tighten the screw over the mark, replace the hose band.
- Check these items. Do the PCM idle learn procedure after replacing the throttle body (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(/acura/rdx/i-2006-2009/remont/engine-control-systems/#idle-control-system__pcm-idle-learn-procedure) ).
