SELF-DIAGNOSTICS
The Electronic Climate Control (ECC) module can detect faults in the system and store Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If a fault is present, system informs driver by flashing Orange A/C and recirculation LEDs for 20 seconds.
A fault warning is given when a fault is discovered or present each time ignition is turned on or engine started. DTCs will remain stored until cleared.
There are 5 different test modes/settings which can be selected for reading off DTCs and other diagnostic functions. Select DIAGNOS TEST to read and erase DTCs and self-adjust damper motors. Select MONITOR TEST to continuously read off values and status of control module input and output signals. Select PROGRAM to program ECC control module. Select ADJUST MOTORS to activate self-adjustment of damper motors. Select READ CM: ID to display control module part number.
RETRIEVING TROUBLE CODES
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) can be retrieved using Volvo Scan Tool (998 8686). Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) located in center console. (Scheme 4) Follow scan tool manufacturer's instructions for retrieving Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). See AUTOMATIC A/C-HEATER SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES table.
Note. Generic scan tool may not be able to perform all diagnostic functions.
CLEARING TROUBLE CODES
Follow scan tool manufacturer's instructions to erase DTCs. If display shows 111, DTCs have been erased/cleared. If a DTC will not erase/clear, perform that particular DTCs diagnosis again.

AUTOMATIC A/C-HEATER SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES
DTC 121: OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE SENSOR, SIGNAL TOO LOW
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, go into scrolling values. Read off outside temperature. If outside reading is correct, go to step 3). If outside reading is not correct, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Connect ohmmeter leads between outside temperature sensor terminals. see scheme 2 See «TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE»(ref-13894-S26480315782000122600000) table. If resistance is not as specified, replace outside temperature sensor. If resistance is as specified, go to next step.
- Check for short circuit to ground in Gray wire between outside temperature sensor and ECC control module. If wiring is okay, replace ECC control module.

TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE
DTC 122: OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE SENSOR, SIGNAL TOO HIGH
- If codes 211, 222, 231 or 235 are displayed at the same time as DTC 122, go to step 5). If DTCs 211, 222, 231 or 235 are not present with DTC 122, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, go into scrolling values. Read off outside temperature. If outside temperature reading is okay, go to step 4). If outside temperature reading is not okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Check outside temperature sensor and ECC control module connectors for poor terminal contact. see scheme 2 Repair as necessary. If terminal contact is okay, check outside temperature sensor resistance. See «TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE»(ref-13894-S26480315782000122600000) table. If resistances are not to specification, replace outside temperature sensor. If resistances are to specification, check for open or short circuit to voltage in Gray wire between outside temperature sensor terminal No. 2 and ECC control module terminal A19. Repair wiring as necessary.
- Check outside temperature sensor and ECC control module connectors for poor terminal contact. Check for intermittent open or short circuit to voltage in Brown wire between ECC control module terminal A19 and outside temperature sensor terminal No. 4. Repair wiring as necessary.
- Turn ignition on. Wait 10 seconds so control module can run diagnosis. Read off COUNTER 1 for DTC 122, 211, 222, 231 or 235. Check value of counters. If value is greater than zero, control module registers fault as intermittent. If counter is zero, control module registers fault as permanent. In either case, go to next step and check for an intermittent or permanent fault.
- Check ECC control module connector for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary. If DTCs 211, 222, 231 and 235 are stored, check for short circuit to voltage in Pink/White wire between ECC control module terminal A7 and damper motor terminal No. 2. Repair wiring as necessary. If DTC 122 is also present, check for open circuit in Brown wire between ECC control module connector terminal A22, damper motor connector terminal No. 1, and outside temperature sensor connector terminal No. 4.
DTC 123: PASSENGER COMPARTMENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR, SIGNAL TOO LOW
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, go into scrolling values. Read off passenger compartment temperature. If temperature reading is okay, check for an intermittent short circuit to ground in Yellow wire between ECC control module connector terminal C6 and passenger compartment temperature sensor connector terminal No. 5. If temperature reading is not okay, or a substitute value of about 72°F (22°C) is displayed, go to next step.
- Check passenger compartment temperature sensor resistance. see scheme 3 If resistance is to specification, check for a short circuit to ground in Yellow wire between ECC control module connector terminal C6 and passenger compartment temperature sensor connector terminal No. 5. Repair wiring as necessary. See «TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE»(ref-13894-S26480315782000122600000) table.
DTC 124: PASSENGER COMPARTMENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR, SIGNAL TOO HIGH
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, go into scrolling values. Read off passenger compartment temperature. If temperature reading is okay, go to step 3). If temperature reading is not okay, or a substitute value of about 72°F (22°C) is displayed, go to next step.
- Ensure ignition is off. Check passenger compartment temperature sensor and ECC control module connectors for poor terminal contact. see scheme 3 Repair as necessary. If temperature reading is still incorrect, check passenger compartment temperature sensor resistance. See «TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE»(ref-13894-S26480315782000122600000). If resistances are to specification, go to next step. If resistances are not to specification, replace passenger compartment temperature sensor.
- Check for open circuit in Yellow wire between ECC control module connector terminal C6 and passenger compartment temperature sensor terminal No. 5. Also check for open circuit in Brown/White wire between ECC control module connector terminal C10 and passenger compartment temperature sensor terminal No. 3. Repair wiring as necessary.
DTC 135: ECT SENSOR, SIGNAL MISSING
- Read off OTHER DTCs in engine management system. If a DTC is stored for ECT sensor in ECM, see TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section. If a DTC is not stored for ECT sensor in ECM, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Check ECC and ECM control module connectors for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, go into scrolling values. Read off ECT temperature. If temperature reading is okay, fault is no longer present. If temperature reading is not okay, check for open or short circuit to voltage or ground in Green/Gray wire between ECC control module connector terminal C2 and ECM connector terminal B23. Also check for short circuit to ground in Green/Gray wire between ECC control module connector terminal C2 and instrument cluster connector terminal A26. Repair wiring as necessary. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-13894-S21638163342000122600000) .
DTC 141: Passenger Compartment Temperature Selector Left, Faulty Signal & DTC 143: Passenger Compartment Temperature Selector Right, Faulty Signal
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, go into scrolling values. Read off passenger compartment temperature selector position. Turn blower fan slowly between limit positions several times and check that all values shown on scan tool seem correct in relation to position indicated on control panel. If temperature selector switch is okay, fault is no longer present. If temperature selector switch is not okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Use scan tool programming function to read out all data from ECC control module. Note ECC control module values. Replace ECC control module. Program new ECC control module.
- After programming ECC control module, Green LED in A/C button will continue to flash until automatic damper motor adjustment is completed. See «DAMPER MOTOR LIMIT POSITION SELF-ADJUSTMENT»(ref-13894-S37707351502000122600000) .
DTC 211: DAMPER MOTOR POSITION SENSOR TEMPERATURE DRIVER, SIGNAL TOO HIGH
- Turn ignition on. Wait 10 seconds so control module can run diagnostics. Using scan tool, read off DTC counters. Check values of counters. If value is greater than zero, fault is intermittent. Go to step 3). If value is zero, fault is permanent. Go to next step.
- Ensure ignition is off. Check damper motor and control module connectors for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary. Repeat step 1) . If value changes, fault was caused by poor terminal contact. Damper motor is okay. If value does not change, go to next step.
- Check for an open or short circuit to voltage in Yellow/Red wire between ECC control module connector terminal A12 and damper motor connector terminal No. 3. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace damper motor.
DTC 212: DAMPER MOTOR POSITION SENSOR TEMPERATURE DRIVER, SIGNAL TOO LOW
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read off other DTCs. If only DTC 212 is present, go to next step. If DTCs 221, 212, 232, and 236 are present, go to step 5).
- Turn ignition on. Wait 10 seconds so control module can run diagnostics. Using scan tool, read off DTC counters. Check values of counters. If value is greater than zero, fault is intermittent. Go to step 4). If value is zero, fault is permanent. Go to next step.
- Ensure ignition is off. Check damper motor and control module connectors for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary, then repeat step 2). If counter value changes, damper motor is okay. Fault was caused by poor terminal contact. If counter value does not change, go to next step.
- Check for an open or short circuit to voltage in Pink/White wire between ECC control module connector terminal A7 and damper motor connector terminal No. 2. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace damper motor.
- Turn ignition on. Wait 10 seconds so control module can run diagnosis. Read off COUNTER 1 for DTC 212, 221, 232 or 236. Check value of counters. If value is greater than zero, control module registers fault as intermittent. If counter is zero, control module registers fault as permanent. In either case, go to next step and check for an intermittent or permanent fault.
- Check ECC control module connector for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary. Check for open or short circuit to ground in Pink/White wire between ECC control module connector terminal A7 and damper motor connector terminal No. 2. Repair wiring as necessary.
DTC 221: DAMPER MOTOR POSITION SENSOR AIR DISTRIBUTION, SIGNAL TOO LOW
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read off other DTCs. If only DTC 221 is present, go to next step. If DTCs 221, 212, 232, and 236 are present, go to step 4).
- Turn ignition on. Wait 10 seconds while control module runs the diagnostic program. Using scan tool, read DTC counters. Check values of counters. If value is greater than zero, fault is intermittent. Go to step 4). If value is zero, fault is permanent. Go to next step.
- Ensure ignition is off. Check damper motor and control module connectors for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary, then repeat step 2). If counter value changes, damper motor is okay. Fault was caused by poor terminal contact. If counter value does not change, go to next step.
- Check for a short circuit to ground in Blue wire between ECC control module connector terminal A28 and damper motor connector terminal No. 3. Also check for an open or short circuit to ground in Pink/White wire between ECC control module connector terminal A28 and damper motor connector terminal No. 3. Repair as necessary.
DTC 222: DAMPER MOTOR POSITION SENSOR AIR DISTRIBUTION, SIGNAL TOO HIGH
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read off other DTCs. If only DTC 222 is present, go to next step. If DTCs 122, 211, 222, 231, and 235 are present, go to step 4).
- Turn ignition on. Wait 10 seconds while control module runs the diagnostic program. Using scan tool, read DTC counters. Check values of counters. If value is greater than zero, fault is intermittent. Go to step 4). If value is zero, fault is permanent. Go to next step.
- Ensure ignition is off. Check damper motor and control module connectors for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary, then repeat step 2). If counter value changes, damper motor is okay. Fault was caused by poor terminal contact. If counter value does not change, go to next step.
- Check for a short circuit to ground in Blue wire between ECC control module connector terminal A28 and damper motor connector terminal No. 3. If wiring is okay, replace damper motor.
DTC 231: DAMPER MOTOR POSITION SENSOR TEMPERATURE PASSENGER, SIGNAL TOO HIGH
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read off other DTCs. If only DTC 231 is present, go to next step. If DTCs 122, 211, 222, 231, and 235 are present, go to step 5).
- Turn ignition on. Wait 10 seconds so control module can run diagnostics. Using scan tool, read off DTC counters. Check values of counters. If counter value is greater than zero, fault is intermittent. Go to step 4). If counter value is zero, fault is permanent. Go to next step.
- Ensure ignition is off. Check damper motor and ECC control module connectors for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary, then repeat step 2). If counter value now changes, damper motor is okay and fault was caused by poor terminal contact. If counter value does not change, go to next step.
- Check for an open or short circuit to voltage in Green/Yellow wire between ECC control module connector terminal A13 and damper motor terminal No. 3. If wiring is okay, replace damper motor.
- Turn ignition on. Wait 10 seconds so control module can run diagnosis. Read off COUNTER 1 for DTC 122, 211, 222, 231 or 235. Check value of counters. If counter value is greater than zero, control module registers fault as intermittent. If counter value is zero, control module registers fault as permanent. In either case, go to next step and check for intermittent or permanent fault.
- Check ECC control module connector for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary. If DTCs 211, 222, 231 and 235 are stored, check for a short circuit to voltage in common wire for power supply between ECC control module terminal A7 and damper motor terminal No. 2. Repair wiring as necessary. If DTC 122 is also present, check for open circuit in common ground wire between ECC control module, damper motor, and outer temperature sensor.
DTC 232: DAMPER MOTOR POSITION SENSOR TEMPERATURE PASSENGER, SIGNAL TOO LOW
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read off other DTCs. If only DTC 232 is present, go to next step. If DTCs 212, 221, 232, and 236 are present, go to step 5).
- Turn ignition on. Wait 10 seconds so control module can run diagnostics. Using scan tool, read off DTC counters. Check values of counters. If counter value is greater than zero, fault is intermittent. Go to step 4). If counter value is zero, fault is permanent. Go to next step.
- Ensure ignition is off. Check damper motor and ECC control module connectors for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary, then repeat step 2). If counter value now changes, damper motor is okay and fault was caused by poor terminal contact. If counter value does not change, go to next step.
- Check for a short circuit to ground in Green/Yellow wire between ECC control module connector terminal A13 and damper motor terminal No. 3. Also check for an open circuit in Pink/White wire between ECC control module connector terminal A7 and damper motor terminal No. 2. If wiring is okay, replace damper motor.
- Turn ignition on. Wait 10 seconds so control module can run diagnosis. Read off COUNTER 1 for DTC 212, 221, 232, and 236. Check value of counters. If counter value is greater than zero, control module registers fault as intermittent. If counter value is zero, control module registers fault as permanent. In either case, go to next step and check for an intermittent or permanent fault.
- Check ECC control module connector for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary. If DTCs 212, 221, 232, and 236 are stored, check for short circuit to voltage in Pink/White wire between ECC control module terminal A7 and damper motor terminal No. 2. Repair wiring as necessary.
DTC 235: DAMPER MOTOR POSITION SENSOR RECIRCULATION, SIGNAL TOO HIGH
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, Read off other DTCs. If only DTC 235 is present, go to next step. If DTCs 122, 211, 222, 231, and 233 are present, go to step 5).
- Turn ignition on. Wait 10 seconds so control module can run diagnostics. Using scan tool, read off DTC counters. Check values of counters. If counter value is greater than zero, fault is intermittent. Go to step 4). If counter value is zero, fault is permanent. Go to next step.
- Ensure ignition is off. Check damper motor and ECC control module connectors for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary, then repeat step 2). If counter value now changes, damper motor is okay and fault was caused by poor terminal contact. If counter value does not change, go to next step.
- Check for a short circuit to ground in Pink/Black wire between ECC control module connector terminal A29 and damper motor terminal No. 3. If wiring is okay, replace damper motor.
- Turn ignition on. Wait 10 seconds so control module can run diagnosis. Read off COUNTER 1 for DTC 122, 211, 222, 231, and 235. Check value of counters. If counter value is greater than zero, fault as intermittent. If counter value is zero, fault as permanent. In either case, go to next step and check for an intermittent or permanent fault.
- Check ECC control module connector for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary. If DTCs 211, 222, 231, and 235 are stored, check Pink/White wire between ECC control module terminal A7 and damper motor terminal No. 2 for a short circuit to voltage. Repair wiring as necessary.
DTC 236: DAMPER MOTOR POSITION SENSOR RECIRCULATION, SIGNAL TOO LOW
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read off other DTCs. If only DTC 236 is present, go to next step. If DTCs 221, 212, 232, and 236 are present, go to step 5).
- Turn ignition on. Wait 10 seconds so control module can run diagnostics. Using scan tool, read off DTC counters. Check values of counters. If value is greater than zero, fault is intermittent. Go to step 4). If counter value is zero, fault is permanent. Go to next step.
- Ensure ignition is off. Check damper motor and ECC control module connectors for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary, then repeat step 2). If counter value now changes, damper motor is okay and fault was caused by poor terminal contact. If counter value does not change, go to next step.
- Check for a short circuit to ground in Pink/Black wire between ECC control module connector terminal A29 and damper motor terminal No. 3. Also check for open circuit in Pink/White wire between ECC control module connector terminal A7 and damper motor terminal No. 2. If wiring is okay, replace damper motor.
- Turn ignition on. Wait 10 seconds so control module can run diagnosis. Read off COUNTER 1 for DTC 236. Check value of counters. If counter value is greater than zero, fault is intermittent. If counter value is zero, fault is permanent. In either case, go to next step and check for an intermittent or permanent fault.
- Check ECC control module connector for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary. If DTCs 212, 221, 232, and 236 are stored, check common wire for power supply between ECC control module terminal A7 and damper motor terminal No. 2 for a short circuit to voltage. Repair wiring as necessary.
DTC 311: DAMPER MOTOR TEMPERATURE DRIVER, FAULTY SIGNAL
- Turn ignition on. Turn blower fan on. Using scan tool, go into scrolling values. Read off damper motor position sensor values. Activate damper motor by slowly turning driver's side temperature control between minimum and maximum heat settings. If position sensor values change when temperature selector is turned, damper motor is okay. Go to step 3). If position sensor values do not change when temperature selector is turned, go to next step.
- Check for open or short circuit to ground or voltage in Red/White wire between ECC control module connector terminal A8 and damper motor connector terminal No. 5, and Red/Black wire between ECC control module connector terminal A9 and damper motor connector terminal No. 4. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace damper motor.
- Check for open or short circuit to ground or voltage in Green/White wire between ECC control module connector terminal A10 and damper motor connector terminal No. 5, and Green/Black wire between ECC control module connector terminal A11 and damper motor connector terminal No. 4. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace damper motor.
DTC 312: DAMPER MOTOR TEMPERATURE DRIVER, ACTIVE TOO LONG
- Turn ignition on. Turn blower fan on. Using scan tool, go into scrolling values. Read off damper motor position sensor values. Activate damper motor by slowly turning driver's side temperature control between minimum and maximum heat settings. If position sensor values change when temperature selector is turned, damper motor is okay and no fault is currently present. If position sensor values do not change when temperature selector is turned, go to next step.
- Check if temperature damper can easily move to limit positions. If temperature damper easily moves, replace damper motor.
DTC 313: DAMPER MOTOR TEMPERATURE PASSENGER, FAULTY SIGNAL
- Turn ignition on. Turn blower fan on. Using scan tool, go into scrolling values. Read off damper motor position sensor values. Activate damper motor by slowly turning passenger's side temperature control between minimum and maximum heat settings. If position sensor values change when temperature selector is turned, check for intermittent fault in wiring. Go to next step. If position sensor values do not change when temperature selector is turned, check for permanent fault in wiring. Go to next step.
- Check for an open, short circuit to ground, or short circuit to voltage in Green/White wire between ECC control module connector terminal A10 and damper motor connector terminal No. 5, and Green/Black wire between ECC control module connector terminal A11 and damper motor terminal No. 4. If wiring is okay, replace damper motor.
DTC 314: DAMPER MOTOR TEMPERATURE PASSENGER, ACTIVE TOO LONG
- Turn ignition on. Turn blower fan on. Using scan tool, go into scrolling values. Read off damper motor position sensor values. Activate damper motor by slowly turning passenger's side temperature control between minimum and maximum heat settings. If position sensor values change when temperature selector is turned, damper motor is okay and no fault is currently present. If position sensor values do not change when temperature selector is turned, go to next step.
- Check if temperature damper can easily move to limit positions. If temperature damper easily moves, replace damper motor.
DTC 315: DAMPER MOTOR RECIRCULATION, FAULTY SIGNAL
- Turn ignition on. Turn blower fan on. Using scan tool, go into scrolling values. Read off damper motor position sensor values. Activate damper motor by engaging and disengaging recirculate function using button on control panel. If position sensor values change, damper motor is okay. Go to next step and check wiring for an intermittent fault. If position sensor values do not change, go to next step and check wiring for permanent fault.
- Check for an open, short circuit to ground, or short circuit to voltage in Brown/White wire between ECC control module connector terminal A26 and damper motor connector terminal No. 5, and Brown/Black wire between ECC control module connector terminal A27 and damper motor terminal No. 4. If wiring is okay, replace damper motor.
DTC 316: DAMPER MOTOR RECIRCULATION, ACTIVE TOO LONG
- Turn ignition on. Turn blower fan on. Using scan tool, go into scrolling values. Read off damper motor position sensor values. Activate damper motor by engaging and disengaging recirculate function using button on control panel. If position sensor values change, damper motor is okay and no fault is currently present. If position sensor values do not change, go to next step.
- Check if temperature damper can easily move to limit positions. If damper is okay, replace damper motor.
DTC 317: DAMPER MOTOR AIR DISTRIBUTION, FAULTY SIGNAL
- Turn ignition on. Turn blower fan on. Using scan tool, go into scrolling values. Read off damper motor position sensor values. Activate damper motor by turning air distribution control to its different positions. If position sensor values change, damper motor is okay. Go to next step and check wiring for an intermittent fault. If position sensor values do not change, go to next step and check wiring for a permanent fault.
- Check for an open, short circuit to ground, or short circuit to voltage in Yellow/White wire between ECC control module connector terminal A24 and damper motor connector terminal No. 5, and Yellow/Black wire between ECC control module connector terminal A25 and damper motor terminal No. 4. If wiring is okay, replace damper motor.
DTC 322: DAMPER MOTOR AIR DISTRIBUTION, ACTIVE TOO LONG
- Turn ignition on. Turn blower fan on. Using scan tool, go into scrolling values. Read off damper motor position sensor values. Activate damper motor by turning air distribution control to its different positions. If position sensor values change, damper motor is okay and no fault is currently present. If position sensor values do not change, go to next step.
- Check if temperature damper can easily move to limit positions. If temperature damper easily moves, replace damper motor.
DTC 411: POWER UNIT BLOWER FAN MOTOR, FAULTY SIGNAL
- Turn ignition on. Select manual control setting on blower fan switch. Using scan tool, go into scrolling values. Read off status of power unit communication. If communication on scan tool reads OK, go to step 3). If communication on scan tool reads NOT OK, go to next step.
- Ensure ignition is off. Check power unit and ECC control module connectors for poor terminal contact. (Scheme 5) Repair as necessary, then repeat step 1). If communication on scan tool reads OK, fault is corrected. If communication on scan tool reads NOT OK, go to next step.
- Check for an open, short circuit to ground, or short circuit to voltage in Violet/White wire between ECC control module connector terminal A14 and power unit connector terminal A2. If wiring is okay, replace power unit.

DTC 412: FAN MOTOR PASSENGER COMPARTMENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR, SIGNAL TOO LOW
- Turn ignition off. Remove passenger compartment temperature sensor, but do not disconnect electrical connector. Turn ignition on. Start blower fan on manual speed. Blower fan sensor fan motor should start. If blower fan sensor motor in temperature sensor operates or not, go to next step.
- Check for a short circuit to ground in Yellow/Red wire between ECC control module connector terminal C8 and passenger compartment temperature sensor connector terminal No. 4. Repair wiring as necessary. Check fan motor by ensuring fan turns easily and is not internally shorted. Replace fan as necessary.
DTC 413: FAN MOTOR PASSENGER COMPARTMENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR, SIGNAL TOO HIGH
- Turn ignition off. Remove passenger compartment temperature sensor, but do not disconnect electrical connector. Turn ignition on. Start blower fan on manual speed. If fan motor in temperature sensor operates, go to step 3). If fan motor in temperature sensor does not operate, go to next step.
- Ensure ignition is off. Check passenger compartment temperature sensor and ECC control module connectors for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary. If fan motor still does not operate, go to next step.
- Check for an open circuit in Yellow/Red wire between ECC control module connector terminal C8 and passenger compartment temperature sensor connector terminal No. 4. Repair wiring as necessary. Check fan motor by ensuring fan turns easily and is not internally shorted. Replace fan as necessary.
DTC 414: FAN MOTOR PASSENGER COMPARTMENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR, FAULTY SIGNAL
- Turn ignition off. Remove passenger compartment temperature sensor, but do not disconnect electrical connector. Turn ignition on. Start blower fan on manual speed. If fan motor in temperature sensor operates, problem is intermittent. If fan motor in temperature sensor does not operate, problem is permanent. In either case, go to next step.
- Check fan motor. Ensure fan turns easily and is not internally shorted. Replace fan as necessary.
DTC 420: ECC Control Module Memory Circuits, Internal Fault &/Or DTC 421: ECC Control Module PROM, Internal Fault
- Turn ignition on. Wait 10 seconds so ECC control module can run diagnostics. Using scan tool, read off DTC counters. If counter value is greater than zero, fault is not longer present. If counter value is less than zero, go to next step.
- Ensure ignition is on. Use scan tool programming function to read out data from ECC control module and note values. Program new ECC control module with these values. See «PROGRAMMING ECC CONTROL MODULE»(ref-13894-S07938033322000122600000) .
DTC 431: Blower Fan Speed Selector Switch, Signal Too High &/Or DTC 432: Blower Fan Speed Selector Switch, Signal Too Low
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, go into scrolling values. Read off blower fan switch position values. Turn blower fan switch slowly between limit positions. If values shown are correct in relation to position indicated on control panel, fault is no longer present. If values shown are not correct in relation to position indicated on control panel, go to next step.
- Ensure ignition is on. Use scan tool programming function to read out all data from ECC control module and note values. Program new ECC control module with these values. See «PROGRAMMING ECC CONTROL MODULE»(ref-13894-S07938033322000122600000) .
DTC 433: Blower Fan Motor, Current Too High
- Turn ignition on. Set blower fan to highest speed. If blower fan operates, fault is no longer present. If fan motor does not operate, ensure fan can rotate freely and is not rubbing or blocked. Repair fan as necessary. If fan rotates freely and is not rubbing, go to next step.
- Check ECC control module and power unit connector terminals for poor terminal contact. Check for an open or short circuit to ground in Violet/White wire between ECC control module connector terminal A14 and power unit connector terminal A2. Also check for open circuit in Black wire at power unit terminal B2. Repair wiring as necessary.
DTC 441: Program Download To Control Module, Not Carried Out &/Or DTC 442: Program Download To Control Module, Faulty
Turn ignition on. Check for open circuit in Brown/Orange wire at ECC control module connector terminal C5, and Black wire at ECC control module connector terminal A23. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, Use scan tool programming function to read out all data from ECC control module and note values. Program new ECC control module with these values. See PROGRAMMING ECC CONTROL MODULE .
