ENGINE SPEED SENSOR, CRANKSHAFT

GENERAL

Scheme 2

Scheme 2: ENGINE SPEED SENSOR, CRANKSHAFT

Type

Inductive sensor with permanent magnet. Output voltage is proportional to the magnet flow's change through the sensor. Higher rpm = higher voltage.

Characteristic

Output voltage 5 - 16V at 650 rpm.

Output voltage > or = 100V at 7000 rpm.

Other information

Certain markets only.

TERMINAL

Connector terminalControl module terminalSignal typeOther
#1#A6SignalSinus voltage. Voltage increases with increasing rpm.
#2#A30Signal +Sinus voltage. Voltage increases with increasing rpm.

CHECK

Prerequisites (unless otherwise specified)

  1. Breakout box connected.
  2. Sensor connected.
  3. Engine running.

Scheme 4

Scheme 4

Check 1

Engine rpm sensor

Measure alternating voltage between #A6 and #A30. The value should be

Uapprox. 5 - 16V at idle (650 rpm).

U > or = 100V at 7000 rpm.

Note. The voltage reaches its highest value immediately after the gap in the flywheel.

Note. The control module interprets that the curve is symmetric. No check of voltage level.

Check 2

Engine rpm sensor

Measure resistance between #A6 and #A30. The value should be

125.5ohms ± 17ohms at +20 °C.

Scheme 5

Scheme 5: CAMSHAFT SENSOR

Magnet-resistive sensor (hall sensor). The sensor is supplied with 5V voltage and is grounded through the control module.

Characteristic

When the camshaft rotates, a pulsed voltage signal is generated. The signal is 5V when tooth on the camshaft passes the sensor and 0V for gap.

TERMINAL

Connector terminalControl module terminalSignal typeOther
#1#A72Power supplyThe camshaft sensors have common voltage feed. The sensors are supplied with 5 V

Check

Prerequisites (unless otherwise specified)

  1. Breakout box connected.
  2. Sensor connected.
  3. Engine running.

Scheme 7

Scheme 7

Camshaft sensor

Measure voltage between #A7 and respective signal output on the camshaft sensor.

The value should be

approx. 0V gap against sensor.

approx. 5V tooth against sensor

Note. The signal's asymmetrical wave shape depends on the camshaft's teeth.
