SUBFRAME, SECURING

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  1. Spindle 10 - 222 A /11 (qty. 2)
  2. Locating pinsm T10300
  3. Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
  4. Torque wrench V.A.G 1332

For certain assemblies on the vehicle, subframe or complete front axle must be removed. For installation, the original position of the subframe can be retained by using locating pins T10300. If using locating pins, bonded rubber bushings must have round hole for bolt. For start of production, bonded rubber bushings with quadrangular hole were installed, subframes with this type of bonded rubber bushings cannot be secured. Always install locating pins just prior to lowering subframe or complete front axle. After completing repair work, road test must be performed; if steering wheel is crooked, vehicle alignment must be performed, refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT .

Remove the noise insulation below the engine/transmission, refer to Noise Insulation Panel Assembly Overview .

Hook spindles 10 - 222 A /11 in eyelets -arrow- of engine carrier on left and right vehicle sides.

Place one wood block -A- of approximately 300 mm in length in each bracket of spindles 10 - 222 A /11.

Brackets must point backward, while doing this.

Tighten wing nuts of spindles, wood blocks must be supported at subframe -B-.

Remove bolts -2-.

At these two points, thread in locating pins T10300 up to marking -B- >>by hand<<.

Tighten the locating pins to 30 Nm while counterholding the sleeve at the flat areas using an open-end wrench to prevent it from turning.

Position of subframe is now secured.

Removal of locating pins T10300 is performed in the reverse order of installation.
