REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Removal & Installation (1.8L & 2.8L)
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect starter electrical connections. Remove clamp, which secures heat shield to starter. Remove bolt securing starter brace to engine. (Scheme 1) Remove 2 nuts securing brace to starter.
- Remove bolts securing starter. Remove starter. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all bolt/nuts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-165669-S08563866952004090100000).
Scheme 1
Removal & Installation (4.0L 8-Cyl.)
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain coolant. See «SPECIFICATIONS & DRIVE BELT ROUTING (4.0L BDP)»(ref-163942) article in COOLING SYSTEM (MECHANICAL). Drain engine oil. Remove oil pipe from oil pan.
- Remove noise insulation panel. see scheme 4 Remove lower right coolant pipe. Disconnect electrical connections for generator. Support engine, using an engine support bridge. Remove bolts securing right engine mount. (Scheme 2) Remove right engine mount in a downward motion.
- Disconnect electrical connections for starter solenoid. Remove bolts securing starter. (Scheme 3) Remove starter in a downward motion. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all bolt/nuts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-165669-S08563866952004090100000).
