ENGINE CODE
Engines are identified by a 3-letter code stamped on the engine. For engine code locations (Scheme 1)- (Scheme 4). Engine codes are also located on the vehicle data plate.
Note. Engine number for 1.8L turbo can be found on mating flange between engine and transmission. Additionally there is a sticker on cylinder head (valve) cover with engine code and serial number.
Scheme 1
Note. Engine code for 1.9L TDI is located between diesel injection pump and exhaust manifold, on engine block. Additionally there is a sticker on the timing belt guard containing engine code and serial number. Engine code is also included on vehicle data plate.
Scheme 2
Note. Engine code and serial number for 2.0L is located can be found on flange between engine/transmission. Additionally there is a sticker on the timing belt guard containing engine code and serial number. Engine code is also included on vehicle data plate.
Scheme 3
Note. Engine code - arrow A - and engine number - arrow B ("serial number") 2.5L is located on rear side of engine, above partition of cylinder block/upper section of oil pan.

| WARNING | Never replace a fuse with one that has a higher amperage rating. A fuse with a too high amperage could damage the electrical part and cause a fire. On no account should fuses be repaired (e.g. with tin foil or wire) as this may cause serious damage elsewhere in the electrical circuit or cause a fire. |

IDENTIFYING FUSES (INSTRUMENT PANEL - LEFT SIDE)
AUTOMATIC CIRCUIT BREAKERS
The electric power windows and the electric seat adjusters or heaters (if applicable) are protected with circuit breakers which reset automatically after the circuit overload has been corrected.
Note. Whenever replacing a fuse, always consult the sticker on the inside of the fuse panel cover. It contains the most up-to-date information regarding the fuse arrangement.
RELAY AND FUSE ARRANGEMENTS ON RELAY PANEL, INSTRUMENT PANEL - LEFT SIDE
The relay fuse (holder) panel is located on left side of the instrument panel, refer to COMPONENT LOCATION . The relay/fuse panel consist of a lower relay panel, the upper thirteen position auxiliary relay panel (above the relay panel) and assorted fuse locations.
