Loosening and tightening
- Mount counter-hold tool VW 558 to drive plate with hex bolt (M8x45). Place two M10 hex nuts between counter - hold tool and drive plate.

- Mount drive plate on crankshaft.
- Install at least 3 old mounting bolts and tighten. Tightening torque: 30 Nm (22 ft lb)
- Check dimension -a- by using a straight edge and depth gauge to measure through the three holes for mounting torque converter. Calculate the average. see scheme 44: Checking Dimension -a- By Using Straight Edge And Depth Gauge
- Compare average measurement with specification. Specification (measured distance + thickness of straight edge): 15.7-16.5 mm (0.606-0.650 in.)
If the specified dimension is not obtained
- Remove drive plate again and fit appropriate shim -1-.
If the specification is obtained

- Install drive plate using new mounting bolts and tighten. Tightening torque: Stage I: 60 Nm (44 ft lb) Stage II: an additional 1/4 turn (90 °) see scheme 45: Fitting Shim To Drive Plate
