SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

  1. GENERAL To assist the driver with parking the vehicle by displaying an image of the area behind the vehicle, this system has a television camera mounted on the luggage compartment door. The system displays the image on the radio and navigation assembly. This system consists of the following components: Radio and navigation assembly Television camera assembly This system is equipped with a self-diagnosis system, which is operated on a dedicated window that appears on the display panel, just as in the navigation system.
  2. FUNCTION OF COMPONENTS The radio and navigation assembly controls the system by using information from the following components: ITEM FUNCTION Item Function Television Camera Assembly Mounted on the luggage compartment door to transmit the rear view of the vehicle to the radio and navigation assembly. A color video camera that uses a CCD (Charge Coupled Device) and a wide-angle lens. Radio and Navigation Assembly Transmits video signals, which contain an image of the area behind the vehicle taken with the television camera assembly. Radio and navigation assembly effects control of the system by receiving the shift position signal from park/neutral position switch. Displays the rear view monitor image on the display panel. Park/Neutral Position Switch Transmits a reverse shift position signal to the radio and navigation assembly.
  3. OPERATION EXPLANATION The radio and navigation assembly receives the R position signal from the park / neutral position switch when the shift lever is moved to the R position. After receiving the R position signal, the radio and navigation assembly switches from the navigation system to the rear view monitor system.
  4. NOTES FOR REAR VIEW MONITOR Notes for the rear view monitor. The rear view monitor may not function properly if subjected to a severe blow by any hard object. Do not "scrub" the cover part of the camera (resin made). Scrubbing it may scratch the cover and affect the image. Prevent organic solvents, waxes, bond removing solvents, or glass coating from adhering to the cover. Clean it off immediately, and wash with water. Exposing the camera to a sudden temperature change may affect proper functioning of the camera. A clear image may not appear if the camera is dirty with snow, mud, etc. In that case, wash it with water and wipe off the lens. Use a detergent to remove dirt if necessary. Images are difficult to discern even in normal conditions if: Camera screen is frosted over (the image immediately after turning the ignition switch to the on position may be blurred or darker than normal). A strong beam of light, such as a sunbeam or headlight, hits the camera. It is too dark around the camera (at night, etc.). The ambient temperature around the camera is either too high or too low. HINT: When a strong light, such as a sunbeam reflected off the vehicle's body, hits the camera, the image may be blurred. This is called the "SMEAR" phenomenon, peculiar to the CCD camera.

DESCRIPTION

  1. GENERAL This system uses ultrasonic sensors to detect any obstacles at the corners and the rear of the vehicle. The system then informs the driver of the distance between the sensors and the obstacles as well as their positions by indicating them on the clearance sonar display and by sounding a buzzer.
  2. FUNCTIONS OF COMPONENTS COMPONENTS FUNCTIONS Components Function Ultrasonic Sensor Ultrasonic sensor consists of a sensor portion that transmits and receives ultrasonic waves and a pre-amplifier that amplifies the waves. The ultrasonic sensor outputs the ultrasonic transmission and reception signals to the clearance warning ECU. Clearance Sonar Main Switch Turns the clearance sonar system on and off. Clearance Warning Buzzer Emits an intermittent sound to inform the driver that the ECU has detected an obstacle within prescribed ranges. Clearance Warning ECU Judges the approximate distance between the vehicle and the obstacle based on the signals from the ultrasonic sensors and sends the display signal to the clearance sonar indicator and the buzzer signal to the clearance warning buzzer. Indicators Displays the location of the obstacle and the approximate distance between the vehicle and the obstacle. Speed Sensor Detects speed of each wheel and inputs the data into the clearance warning ECU via the combination meter. Park/ Neutral Position Switch (A/T) Sends a signal that activates the clearance sonar system when the shift lever is moved to the R position.
  3. OPERATION EXPLANATION The clearance warning ECU determines whether the clearance sonar system should be operated based on the clearance sonar main switch on/off status, the shift position and the vehicle speed. When the system operates, the clearance warning ECU transmits ultrasonic waves from the ultrasonic sensors. If these waves encounter an obstacle within one or more of the sensors' ranges, the waves are reflected back to the sensors, which transmit them to the clearance warning ECU. Based on this information, the clearance warning ECU sends signals to the indicator and the clearance warning buzzer. The approximate distance between the vehicle and the obstacle is then indicated, and the buzzer sounds. HINT: Refer to "OPERATION CHECK" for detailed operation (See «OPERATION CHECK»(ref-282158-S36575989762008032900000) ).

The clearance warning ECU receives the reverse or park position signal from the park / neutral position switch.

The clearance warning ECU receives the vehicle speed signal from the combination meter.

HINT

  1. A voltage of 12 V or 5 V is output from each ECU and then input to the combination meter. The signal is changed to a pulse signal at the transistor in the combination meter. Each ECU controls the respective system based on the pulse signal.
  2. If a short occurs in an ECU, all systems in the diagram below will not operate normally.
