HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING

HINT

  1. Use these procedures to troubleshoot the power window control system.

  1. CHECK WINDOW LOCK SWITCH Check that the passenger side power window and rear windows cannot be operated when the window lock switch of the power window regulator master switch is pressed. OK Passenger side power window and rear windows operation is disabled. Check that the passenger side power window can be operated when the window lock switch is pressed again. OK Passenger side power window and rear windows can be operated.

CHECK POWER WINDOW OPERATION FUNCTION AFTER IGNITION SWITCH IS TURNED OFF (DRIVER DOOR POWER WINDOW) Check that the driver door power window can be operated with the power window regulator master switch after the ignition switch is turned off. Check that the key-off operation function does not operate after either the driver door or front passenger door is opened. Check that the driver door power window cannot be operated after more than approximately 45 seconds have elapsed since the ignition switch was turned off.
  6. CHECK JAM PROTECTION FUNCTION (DRIVER DOOR POWER WINDOW) Check the basic function. WARNING: The jam protection function is operative during both the AUTO UP and MANUAL UP operation. Do not put your fingers between the door frame and door glass to check functions. Also, prevent any parts of your body from being caught during inspection. HINT: The jam protection function is operative during both the AUTO UP and MANUAL UP operation while the engine runs or the ignition switch is ON, and also after the key is removed from the key cylinder. Fully open the driver door power window. Set a thick book wrapped with a shop rag or piece of cloth near the power window fully closed position. Operate the AUTO UP or MANUAL UP function to check that the power window goes down before the book is caught between the window and door frame, and stops when the opening reaches approximately 200 mm(7.87 in.). HINT: The power window moves down approximately 50 mm(1.97in.). However, when the opening does not reach 200 mm(7.87 in.), the power window continues to go down until the opening reaches 200 mm(7.87 in.) or until approximately 5 seconds have elapsed. While the power window is moving down, check that the door glass cannot be moved up even when the power window regulator master switch is used.
  7. CHECK POWER WINDOW REGULATOR MASTER SWITCH ASSEMBLY Check the LED illumination. Check that the LED located on the power window regulator master switch illuminates when the ignition switch is turned ON with the connector connected.

Measure the resistance and voltage of the wire harness side connector. Scheme 11: DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM
  1. DESCRIPTION The driver side power window regulator motor (power window ECU) controls the power window control system functions on the vehicle. Power window control system data can be read through the Data Link Connector 3 (DLC3) of the vehicle. When the system seems to be malfunctioning, use Techstream to check for malfunctions and perform repairs.
  2. CHECK DLC3 The vehicle's ECU uses ISO 15765-4 for communication protocol. The terminal arrangement of the DLC3 complies with SAE J1962 and matches the ISO 15765-4 format. If the result is not as specified, the DLC3 may have a malfunction. Repair or replace the harness and connector. Connect the cable of Techstream to the DLC3, turn the ignition switch to the ON position and attempt to use Techstream. If the screen displays a communication error message, a problem exists in the vehicle side of the tester side. HINT: If communication is normal when the tool is connected to another vehicle, inspect the DLC3 on the original vehicle. If communication is still impossible when the tool is connected to another vehicle, the problem is probably in the tool itself. Consult the Service Department listed in the tool's instruction manual.

DTC CHECK / CLEAR

  1. CHECK DTC Connect Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON and turn the tester on. Check the DTC(s).
  2. CLEAR DTC Connect Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON and turn the tester on. Check that "DTCs are cleared" is displayed. NOTE: If any DTCs are output, troubleshoot those DTCs again.

DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST

  1. READ DATA LIST HINT: Using the Techstream's Data List allows switch, sensor, actuator and other item values to be read without removing any parts. Reading the Data List early in troubleshooting is one way to save time. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON. Read the Data List.   2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST WARNING: Be careful to avoid injuries as this test causes vehicle parts to move. HINT: Performing the Techstream's Active Test allows relay, VSV, actuator, and other items to be operated without removing any parts. Performing the Active Test early in troubleshooting is one way to save time. The Data List can be displayed during the Active Test. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON. Performing the Active Test by following the prompts on the tester screen.
