- Connect hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool, and check park/neutral position switch signal. PREPARATION: Warm up the engine. Turn the ignition switch OFF. Connect the hand-held tester or the OBD II scan tool to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON. Turn ON the hand-held tester or the OBD II scan tool. When using the hand-held tester: Enter the following menus: DIAGNOSIS/ENHANCED OBD II/DATA LIST. Read the "DATA LIST" on the tester. CHECK: Read the park/neutral position switch signal. OK: OK : Check for intermittent problem (See «HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-180907-S19852941862005073000000) ). NG : Go to next step.
- Check park/neutral position switch. PREPARATION: Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector. CHECK: Measure the resistance between the terminals shown below, when the shift lever is moved into each position. TERMINALS SHIFT POSITION Shift Position Terminal No. P 2 - 6 4 - 5 R 1 - 2 - N 2 - 9 4 - 5 D 2 - 7 - 2 2 - 3 - L 2 - 8 - OK: Below 1 ohm NG : Replace park/neutral position switch (See «ON-VEHICLE REPAIR»(ref-181124-S14319068362005073100000) ). OK : Go to next step.
- Check harness and connector between ECM and park/neutral position switch. PREPARATION: Connect the park/neutral position switch connector. Turn the ignition switch ON. CHECK: Measure the voltage according to the table below when the shift position is moved into each position. OK: HINT: *: The voltage will drop slightly due to lighting up of the back-up light. NG : Repair or replace harness or connector (See «HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-180907-S19852941862005073000000) ). OK : Check and replace ECM (See «HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-180907-S19852941862005073000000) ).
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The ATF temperature sensor converts the ATF temperature into a resistance value which is input to the ECM.
The ECM applies voltage to the temperature sensor through ECM terminal THO1.
The sensor resistance changes with the transmission fluid temperature. As the temperature becomes higher, the sensor resistance decreases.
One of the sensor terminals is grounded so that the sensor resistance decreases and the voltage drops as the temperature becomes higher.
The ECM calculates the fluid temperature based on the voltage signal.
