SYSTEM TESTS
Note. Before proceeding with any system test, ensure proper trouble shooting procedure was performed. See TROUBLE SHOOTING PROCEDURE under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If all systems are not operating, perform TEST NO. 34: PASSENGER'S SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT DOES NOT OPERATE to verify operation of passenger's side Junction Block (J/B) Electronic Control Unit (ECU).

| Passenger's Side Junction Block Electronic Control Unit Does Not Operate | Test No. 34 | |
| (1) Auto up or down function controls automatic operation of power window. When power window switch is pushed completely downward and then released, or pulled completely upward and then released, the power window will fully open or close. Auto up or down function may also be referred to as the one touch power window system. (2) Power window lock system prevents all passenger power windows from operating when window lock switch is depressed. Window lock switch is located on power window master switch on driver's side front door. see scheme 1 (3) Two-operation unlock function unlocks all side doors and back (rear liftgate) door. When using the key and turning driver's side front door lock once, only driver's side front door will unlock. Turning driver's side front door lock twice in succession will unlock remaining side doors and the back (rear liftgate) door. (4) Key confinement prevention function prevents the doors from being locked if ignition key is in the ignition lock cylinder. (5) Automatic lock function allows 30 seconds to open the door once the door is unlocked with the keyless entry remote transmitter or the door will be locked again. | ||

DOOR COURTESY SWITCH
Note. Testing information for door courtesy switch on back (rear liftgate) door is not available from manufacturer.
Remove door courtesy switch from pillar post at rear of side door. see scheme 1 Using ohmmeter, check that continuity exists between electrical terminal and body of door courtesy switch with switch pin released to ON position and no continuity exists with switch pin depressed to OFF position. (Scheme 7) Replace door courtesy switch if defective.

- Remove door panel for access to appropriate door lock assembly on driver's side front door, passenger's side front door or back (rear liftgate) door which contains the door key lock and unlock switch. see scheme 1
- Disconnect the 6-pin electrical connector at door lock assembly. Note electrical terminal identification on door lock assembly and switch positions. (Scheme 8)
- Using ohmmeter, check that continuity and no continuity is as specified between indicated door lock assembly electrical terminal for door key lock and unlock switch in relation to switch position. See «DOOR KEY LOCK & UNLOCK SWITCH CONTINUITY»(ref-131965-S12171413022001101500000) table. Replace door key lock and unlock switch if continuity is not as specified. Scheme 9
- Remove door panel for access to appropriate door lock assembly which contains the door lock motor and door unlock detection switch. see scheme 1
- Disconnect electrical connector at door lock assembly. Using jumper wires, apply battery voltage and ground to specified electrical terminals on door lock assembly and check that door lock motor moves to UNLOCK position. (Scheme 9)
- Reverse jumper wires so polarity is reversed and check that door lock motor moves to LOCK position. (Scheme 9) Replace door lock assembly if door lock motor does not operate as specified.
Scheme 10
- Remove door panel for access to appropriate door lock assembly on driver's side front door or passenger's side front door which contains the door lock motor and door unlock detection switch. see scheme 1
- Disconnect the 6-pin electrical connector at door lock assembly. Note electrical terminal identification on door lock assembly and switch positions. (Scheme 10)
- On driver's side front door, using ohmmeter, check that no continuity exists between terminals No. 1 and 2 with switch in LOCK position and that continuity between terminals No. 1 and 2 with switch in UNLOCK position. (Scheme 10) On passenger's side front door, using ohmmeter, check that no continuity exists between terminals No. 5 and 6 with switch in LOCK position and that continuity between terminals No. 5 and 6 with switch in UNLOCK position. (Scheme 10) On all applications, replace door unlock detection switch if continuity is not as specified.
FRONT PERSONAL LIGHT
- Front personal light is located near front of headliner. see scheme 1 Remove front personal light and disconnect electrical connector.
- Using ohmmeter, check that continuity exists between both electrical terminals on front personal light. Replace bulb or light assembly if continuity does not exist.
Scheme 11
- Remove necessary steering column covers for access to headlight control switch. see scheme 1 Disconnect 13-pin electrical connector from headlight control switch.
- Using ohmmeter, check that no continuity and continuity between specified electrical terminals on headlight control switch in relation to headlight control switch position. See «HEADLIGHT CONTROL SWITCH CONTINUITY»(ref-131965-S17148152702002010200000) table. (Scheme 11) Replace headlight control switch if defective. See «HEADLIGHT CONTROL SWITCH»(ref-131965-S01259833462002010200000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. HEADLIGHT CONTROL SWITCH CONTINUITY Switch Position Switch Terminals No. Specification OFF (1) (1) TAIL 10 & 13 Continuity HEAD 10 & 13; 11 & 12 Continuity LOW BEAM 8 & 11 Continuity HIGH BEAM 9 & 11 Continuity FLASH 9 & 11 Continuity (1) There should be no continuity between any terminals.
HEADLIGHT RELAY
Note. Headlight relay may also be referred to as H-LP relay.
Scheme 12
- Ensure ignition is off. Remove headlight relay. Headlight relay is located in fuse/relay box at driver's side front corner of engine compartment and is marked as H-LP relay. see scheme 1
- Note identification of electrical terminals on headlight relay. (Scheme 12) Using ohmmeter, check that no continuity exists between terminals No. 3 and 5 on headlight relay. Check that continuity exists between terminals No. 1 and 2 on headlight relay.
- Using jumper wires, apply battery voltage and ground to terminals No. 1 and 2 on headlight relay. Check that continuity now exists between terminals No. 3 and 5 on headlight relay. (Scheme 12) Replace headlight relay if defective.

- Ensure ignition is off. Remove horn relay. Horn relay is located in fuse/relay box at driver's side of instrument panel. see scheme 1and (Scheme 13).
- Note identification of electrical terminals on horn relay. (Scheme 14) Using ohmmeter, check that no continuity exists between terminals No. 3 and 5 on horn relay. Check that continuity exists between terminals No. 1 and 2 on horn relay.
- Using jumper wires, apply battery voltage and ground to terminals No. 1 and 2 on horn relay. Check that continuity now exists between terminals No. 3 and 5 on horn relay. (Scheme 14) Replace horn relay if defective.
Scheme 15
- Disconnect electrical connector from ignition switch on bottom of upper steering column bracket. see scheme 1 Note ignition switch electrical terminals and ignition lock cylinder positions. (Scheme 15)
- Using ohmmeter, check that continuity is as specified between indicated ignition switch electrical terminals in relation to ignition lock cylinder position. See «IGNITION SWITCH CONTINUITY»(ref-131965-S05530749582002010200000) table. Replace ignition switch if defective. See «IGNITION SWITCH»(ref-131965-S26922707722002010200000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. IGNITION SWITCH CONTINUITY Ign. Lock Cylinder Position Ign. Switch Terminals No. Specification LOCK (1) (1) ACC 1 & 3 Continuity ON 1, 2 & 3; 5 & 6 Continuity START 1 & 2; 4, 5 & 6 Continuity (1) There should be no continuity between any terminals.
Scheme 16
- Interior light and luggage compartment light are located on the headliner. see scheme 1 Remove light assembly and disconnect electrical connector.
- Using ohmmeter, check that continuity exists between body ground and terminal No. 2 on light assembly with light switch in ON position. Perform STEP 1 in illustration. (Scheme 16)
- Using ohmmeter, check that continuity exists between terminals No. 1 and 2 on light assembly with light switch in DOOR position. Perform STEP 2 in illustration. (Scheme 16) Replace bulb or light assembly if continuity does not exist.
KEY UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH
- Disconnect electrical connector for key unlock warning switch. Key unlock warning switch is located on upper steering column bracket, near ignition lock cylinder and contains a 2-pin electrical connector. see scheme 1 Key unlock warning switch may also be referred to as unlock switch or unlock warning switch.
- Connect ohmmeter between terminals on key unlock warning switch. Check that no continuity exists with ignition key removed from ignition lock cylinder. Check that continuity exists with ignition key installed in ignition lock cylinder. Replace key unlock warning switch if defective. See «KEY UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH»(ref-131965-S31764143042002010200000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LIGHT
For luggage compartment light testing, see INTERIOR LIGHT OR LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LIGHT .
POWER DOOR LOCK CONTROL SWITCH
Note. Power door lock control switch may also be referred to as door lock control switch.
Scheme 17
- On driver's side front door with power windows, power door lock control switch is incorporated into the power window master switch. (Scheme 17) On driver's side front door without power windows and passenger's side front door, power door lock control switch is located on the door panel and is a separate switch.
- On all applications, disconnect electrical connector from power door lock control switch. Note power door lock control switch electrical terminal identification. (Scheme 17)
- Using ohmmeter, check that continuity and no continuity is as specified between indicated power door lock control switch electrical terminals in relation to power door lock control switch position. See «POWER DOOR LOCK CONTROL SWITCH CONTINUITY»(ref-131965-S24022920132001101500000) table. Replace power door lock control switch if defective. POWER RELAY
- Ensure ignition is off. Remove power relay. Power relay is located in fuse/relay box at driver's side of instrument panel. see scheme 1and (Scheme 13).
- Note identification of electrical terminals on power relay. (Scheme 14) Using ohmmeter, check that no continuity exists between terminals No. 3 and 5 on power relay. Check that continuity exists between terminals No. 1 and 2 on power relay.
- Using jumper wires, apply battery voltage and ground to terminals No. 1 and 2 on power relay. Check that continuity now exists between terminals No. 3 and 5 on power relay. (Scheme 14) Replace power relay if defective.
POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH
Note. Power window master switch is located on driver's side front door and power window switches are located on all other passenger doors. For testing of power window switch, see POWER WINDOW SWITCH .
Scheme 18
- Power window master switch is located on driver's side front door. see scheme 1 Disconnect electrical connector from power window master switch. Note power window master switch electrical terminal identification and location of window lock switch. (Scheme 18) When window lock switch is depressed, only driver's side front door power window will operate. When window lock switch is released, all the power windows will operate.
- Using ohmmeter, check that continuity is as specified between indicated power window master switch electrical terminals in relation to window switch application and window lock switch position. See «POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH CONTINUITY»(ref-131965-S32796666682002011400000) table. Replace power window master switch if continuity is not as specified. Scheme 19
- Remove door panel for access to electrical connector at power window motor. Disconnect electrical connector for power window motor.
- Using jumper wires, apply battery voltage and ground to terminals No. 4 and 5 on electrical connector for power window motor and check that power window motor rotates clockwise. Perform STEP 1 in illustration. (Scheme 19)
- Reverse jumper wires so polarity is reversed and check that power window motor rotates counterclockwise. Perform STEP 2 in illustration. (Scheme 19) Replace power window motor if operation is not as specified. See POWER WINDOWS - TRUCKS article.
POWER WINDOW SWITCH
Note. Power window master switch is located on driver's side front door and power window switches are located on all other passenger doors. For testing of power window master switch, see POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH .
Scheme 20
- Disconnect electrical connector from power window switch. Note power window switch electrical terminal identification. (Scheme 20)
- Using ohmmeter, check that continuity is as specified between indicated power window switch electrical terminal in relation to window switch position. See «POWER WINDOW SWITCH CONTINUITY»(ref-131965-S30888102582001101500000) table. Replace power window switch if continuity is not as specified. Scheme 21
- Disconnect electrical connector for seat belt buckle switch. Seat belt buckle switch is located near the bottom of the seat belt assembly. (Scheme 21) Seat belt buckle switch may also be referred to as buckle switch.
- Using ohmmeter, check that continuity exists between electrical terminals for seat belt buckle switch with seat belt unfastened (ON position) and that no continuity exists with the seat belt fastened (OFF position). (Scheme 21) Replace seat belt buckle switch if operation is not as specified.
TAILLIGHT RELAY
Taillight relay is located near fuse/relay box at driver's side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Taillight relay testing information is not available from manufacturer. For testing of taillight relay, consult wiring diagram. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. Replace taillight relay if defective.
PASSENGER'S SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT
Passenger's side Junction Block (J/B) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is located at passenger's side of instrument panel. see scheme 2 Using voltmeter, check voltage between specified passenger's side J/B ECU terminals under specified condition. (Scheme 22)and (Scheme 23). If voltage is not within specification, repair wiring harness or replace components as necessary. If voltages are within specification, passenger's side J/B ECU may be faulty.
