Scheme 1: Reassembly (Highlander)

Scheme 2

Scheme 2
  1. Install ignition or starter switch assembly. Install key interlock solenoid to steering column bracket assembly with 2 screws. Install unlock warning switch assembly. Connect terminals No. 2 and No. 4 of unlock warning switch assembly connector. see scheme 8
  2. Ensure ignition switch lock cylinder assembly is at ACC position. Install ignition switch lock cylinder assembly. Using snap ring expander, install NEW mainshaft snap ring on inner side to steering mainshaft assembly. Install mainshaft assembly to steering column tube. (Scheme 1) Using snap ring expander, install NEW snap ring on outer side to mainshaft assembly.
  3. Install mainshaft bushing. Temporarily install steering column upper with switch bracket assembly and steering column upper clamp with 2 NEW tapered head bolts. Tighten head bolts until bolt heads break off.
  4. On models with illuminated entry system, install key cylinder lamp assembly. On models with engine immobilizer system, align transponder key amplifier with installation position of upper bracket with amplifier inclined. (Scheme 2) Push transponder key amplifier up, and connect it to upper bracket.
  5. On all models, align match marks on steering universal joint and main shaft assembly. Install universal joint assembly with bolt, and tighten to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-127934-S09874421372001103100000).
  6. Install No. 2 steering column hole cover sub-assembly to intermediate shaft. Align match marks on steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly and steering main shaft assembly. Temporarily install intermediate shaft with bolt.
  7. Install steering column with 2 bolts and nuts. Tighten bolts and nuts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-127934-S09874421372001103100000). Reconnect electrical connectors. Connect wire harness clamps to steering column tube.
  8. Align match marks on intermediate shaft sub-assembly and steering gear assembly. Install bolt, and tighten to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-127934-S09874421372001103100000). Tighten bolt "A". See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-127934-S09874421372001103100000). Instal steering column hole cover No. 2 to steering hole cover No. 1. Connect clamp to steering column hold cover No. 1 and tighten bolt "B".
  9. Place wheels in straight ahead position. Check and adjust spiral cable assembly. See «SPIRAL CABLE»(ref-127934-S12046952132001103100000) under ADJUSTMENTS.
