SERVICE PRECAUTIONS
| WARNING | When performing any inspection or service procedure on this vehicle, ensure following service precautions are followed to prevent personal injury or death due to the extremely high voltage. |
The following service precautions must be followed
Scheme 22
- Ensure ignition is off and ignition key is removed from ignition before performing any inspection or service procedure in engine compartment, as engine may automatically start and shut off when ignition is on and READY light is illuminated. READY light is displayed just above the shift lever position indicator on instrument cluster at center of instrument panel.
- Read all service and warning labels in engine compartment before performing any procedures in engine compartment.
- All high-voltage wiring harness connectors contain Orange connectors. DO NOT touch any wiring harness that contains Orange connectors.
- High-voltage battery and other high-voltage components may be identified by HIGH VOLTAGE caution labels on them. DO NOT touch these components.
- If necessary to inspect or service high-voltage system, ensure ignition is off. Remove service plug and wait at least 5 minutes to ensure high voltage is fully discharged before touching any high-voltage wiring harness, connectors or components. Service plug is located on service plug assembly at driver's side front corner of trunk compartment, near high-voltage battery. (Scheme 22) Ensure service plug is stored in a location in which no one may install service plug while technician is working on the vehicle.
- If necessary to touch any high-voltage wiring harness, connectors or components, ensure service plug is removed and battery voltage or less exists at electrical connector. Use Toyota insulated gloves when touching any high-voltage wiring harness, connectors or components. Ensure insulated gloves are dry and in good condition and that no holes exist in insulated gloves by applying air to insulated glove before touching any high-voltage wiring harness, connectors or components.
- DO NOT wear any metal objects while working on vehicle which may accidently drop and cause a short circuit.
- If any high-voltage wiring harness connector is disconnected, ensure terminal on wiring harness connector is wrapped with tape to prevent wiring harness connector from contacting any surface.
- If servicing high-voltage system, place sign on roof of vehicle to indicate to other technicians that high-voltage system is being serviced.
Using Open Door Indicator Light
Note. Before attempting to retrieve DTCs, ensure diagnostic system pre-check is performed to verify body Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is working properly so body ECU is able to diagnose the multiplex control system. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM PRE-CHECK .

- Note location of Data Link Connector (DLC) No. 3. see scheme 6 Install Jumper Wire (SST 09843-18020) between terminals No. 4 (CG) and 13 (TC) on data link connector No. 3. (Scheme 23)
- Turn ignition on and observe open door indicator light flashing sequence. If no DTCs exist, open door indicator light indicator will flash to indicate normal operation. (Scheme 24) If DTC exists, open door indicator light will flash the 2 digit DTC. (Scheme 24) If more than one DTC exists, a pause will exist before the next DTC is displayed. (Scheme 24) Record any existing DTCs.
- Identify DTCs and then perform appropriate DTC test under «DIAGNOSTIC TESTS»(ref-132865-S05964834702001112800000). NOTE: If Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) for loss of communication exists, there is a possibility that a electrical connector is disconnected or 2 communication bus lines are open. see scheme 7 DTC will not exist if only one communication line is open. see scheme 7 If 2 communication bus lines are open at specified positions, a DTC for loss of communication for those 2 communication bus lines will exist for the 3 ECUs. see scheme 7 NOTE: DTCs No. 21, 22 and No. 41 are for a switch and circuit test function for related circuits. When system is in DTC retrieval mode, switches must be operated to determine condition of switch and circuit. If switch circuit is operating properly, the relevant DTC will set while switch is being operated. If DTC is not set when switch is operated, an open circuit is present in either switch contacts or wiring circuit. If DTC sets before switch is operated, switch contacts are stuck or wiring circuit is shorted.
