DESCRIPTION & OPERATION
Note. This article covers procedures for body control system as well as driver door control system. Driver door control system may be referenced when using this article.
| WARNING | Vehicle is equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting ANY repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. |
Body control system controls the following systems: power windows on passenger's side front door and both rear doors, power door locks, remote keyless entry system, illuminated entry system, headlights, taillights and various other functions such as; seat belt warning indicator and anti-theft system indicator light. Body Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is connected to a multiplex communication system with Engine Control Module (ECM), gateway ECU, driver's door ECU, A/C amplifier and combination meter. This communication system is referred to as the multiplex control system. Before starting any diagnosis on body control system components or circuits, check multiplex control system operation to ensure that all ECUs are able to communicate with each other. See MULTIPLEX CONTROL SYSTEMS - PRIUS article.
Driver door control system is used to control the following systems: power windows on driver's side front door, jam protection function and auto up or down function for power window on driver's side front door. Driver's door Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is connected to a multiplex communication network with Engine Control Module (ECM), gateway ECU, A/C amplifier and combination meter. Driver's door ECU may also be referred to as power window master switch. This communication system is referred to as the multiplex control system. Before starting any diagnosis on driver door control system components or circuits, check multiplex control system operation to ensure that all ECUs are able to communicate with each other. See MULTIPLEX CONTROL SYSTEMS - PRIUS article.
TEST NO. 4: TWO-OPERATION UNLOCK FUNCTION DOES NOT OPERATE
Note. Two-operation unlock function unlocks all doors. When using the key and turning driver's side door lock once, only driver's door will unlock. Turning driver's side door lock twice in succession will unlock all the doors. Two-operation unlock function may also be referred to as door key linked function.
- Check door key lock and unlock switch for passenger's side front door. See «DOOR KEY LOCK & UNLOCK SWITCH»(ref-132535-S39903967492002012200000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If door key lock and unlock switch is okay, go to next step. If door key lock and unlock switch is defective, replace switch and recheck operation of two-operation unlock function.
- Check wiring harness and electrical connectors for Green and Blue/Black wires between door key lock and unlock switch on passenger's side front door and body Electronic Control Unit (ECU). See WIRING DIAGRAMS in POWER DOOR LOCKS & REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS - PRIUS article. Body ECU is located at driver's side of instrument panel on the fuse/relay box and contains an 18-pin and 20-pin electrical connector. (Схема №2) If wiring harness and electrical connectors are okay, go to next step. If wiring harness or electrical connector is defective, repair as necessary and recheck operation of two-operation unlock function.
- Check body ECU for proper voltage and input signals. See «BODY ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT»(ref-132535-S29057912322002012200000) under PIN VOLTAGE TESTS. If proper voltage and input signals exist, go to next step. If proper voltage and input signals do not exist, repair as necessary and recheck operation of two-operation unlock function.
- Replace body ECU with a known-good body ECU and recheck operation of two-operation unlock function. If two-operation unlock function operates properly, original body ECU was defective. If two-operation unlock function still does not operate properly, check wiring harness and electrical connectors for Green and Blue/Black wires between body ECU and door key lock and unlock switch on passenger's side front door for intermittent problem. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in POWER DOOR LOCKS & REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS - PRIUS article. Repair wiring harness or electrical connector as necessary.
