- DRAIN COOLANT (for Engine) NOTE: Do not remove the water filler cap sub-assembly, engine drain cock plug or radiator drain cock plug while the engine and radiator are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns. Loosen the radiator drain cock plug. Remove the water filler cap sub-assembly and drain the coolant. - ADD COOLANT (for Engine) Insert the engine drain cock plug. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Hose Disconnect the hose from the engine drain cock plug. Install the stop ring. Tighten the radiator drain cock plug by hand. Slowly fill the radiator with TOYOTA Super Long Life Coolant (SLLC) from the water filler. (Coolant level should be within 20 mm (0.787 in.) from the filler tube end.) HINT: TOYOTA vehicles are filled with TOYOTA SLLC at the factory. In order to avoid damage to the engine cooling system and other technical problems, only use TOYOTA SLLC or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology (coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology is a combination of low phosphates and organic acids). Remove the reserve tank cap. Slowly pour coolant into the radiator reserve tank assembly until it reaches the full line. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Full Line *b Low Line Squeeze the No. 1 and No. 2 radiator hoses several times by hand, and then check the level of the coolant. If the coolant level is low, add coolant. Install the water filler cap sub-assembly and reserve tank cap. Put the engine in inspection mode. Refer to «INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE»(/toyota/prius-c/i-2011-2015/remont/hoistjack/#introduction) . Bleed air from the cooling system. NOTE: Before starting the engine, turn the A/C switch off. Adjust the heater control to the maximum hot setting. Adjust the blower speed to the low setting. Warm up the engine until the thermostat opens. While the thermostat is open, circulate the coolant for several minutes. HINT: The thermostat open timing can be confirmed by squeezing the No. 2 radiator hose by hand, and sensing vibrations when the engine coolant starts to flow inside the hose. Squeeze the No. 1 and No. 2 radiator hoses several times by hand to bleed air. WARNING: When squeezing the radiator hoses: Wear protective gloves. Be careful as the radiator hoses are hot. Keep your hands away from the cooling fan. NOTE: Make sure that the radiator reserve tank assembly still has some coolant in it. If the coolant temperature gauge indicates an excessive temperature, turn off the engine and let it cool. If there is not enough coolant, the engine may overheat or be seriously damaged. If the radiator reserve tank assembly does not have enough coolant, perform the following: 1) stop the engine, 2) wait until the coolant has cooled down, and 3) add coolant until the reserve tank assembly is filled to the full line. Stop the engine and wait until the engine coolant cools down. Add engine coolant to the full line on the radiator reserve tank assembly.

- INSTALL ENGINE WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY Install a new gasket. HINT: Be sure to clean the contact surfaces. Install the engine water pump assembly with the 5 bolts. Torque: 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) Connect the 2 clamps. Connect the connector. NOTE: Do not start the engine water pump assembly before adding coolant.

- INSPECT WATER INLET WITH THERMOSTAT SUB-ASSEMBLY HINT: The valve opening temperature is inscribed on the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly. Immerse the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly in water and then gradually heat the water. Check the valve opening temperature of the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly. Valve opening temperature 80 to 84°C (176 to 183°F) HINT: If the valve opening temperature is not as specified, replace the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly. Refer to «REMOVAL»(/toyota/prius-c/i-2011-2015/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system-service-information) . Check the valve lift. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Valve Lift Valve lift 8.0 mm (0.315 in.) or more at 95°C (203°F) HINT: If the valve lift is not as specified, replace the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly. - INSTALL WATER INLET WITH THERMOSTAT SUB-ASSEMBLY Install a new gasket on the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly. Install the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly with the 2 bolts. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) Connect the water inlet hose and No. 3 water by-pass hose.

- INSPECT COOLING FAN ECU Put the vehicle in the following conditions: The ignition switch is off. The coolant temperature is less than 92°C (198°F). The auxiliary battery voltage is between 11 to 14 V. The A/C switch is off. Connect the pickup of a clamp-on ammeter over one of the two wires for the cooling fan motor. Turn the ignition switch to ON (IG) and wait for approximately 10 seconds. Check that the fan stops. Turn the ignition switch to ON (READY). Check that the fan stops with the engine idling. HINT: Make sure that the radiator engine coolant temperature is less than 92°C (198°F). Turn the A/C switch off. Check that the fan operates when the A/C switch is turned on. - CHECK WATER FILLER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY Measure the valve opening pressure. If there are water stains or foreign matter on rubber packings 1, 2 or 3, clean the part(s) with water and finger scouring. Check that rubber packings 1, 2 and 3 are not deformed, cracked or swollen. Check that 3 and 4 are not stuck together. Apply engine coolant to rubber packings 2 and 3 before using the radiator cap tester. When using the cap tester, tilt it upward 30° or more. Pump the cap tester several times, and check the maximum pressure *1. - REMOVE NO. 2 FAN SHROUD Remove the 2 bolts, 2 claws and No. 2 fan shroud.
- REMOVE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY Remove the radiator assembly with the fan shroud. NOTE: Do not apply any excessive force to the cooler condenser assembly or pipe when removing the radiator assembly. Remove the 2 lower radiator supports. Remove the 2 bolts and No. 3 radiator hose. Remove the 2 claws and radiator assembly.

- INSTALL RADIATOR ASSEMBLY Install the radiator assembly with the 2 claws. Install the No. 3 radiator hose with the 2 bolts. Torque: 7.5 N*m (76 kgf*cm, 66 in.*lbf) Install the 2 lower radiator supports. Install the radiator assembly with the fan shroud. NOTE: Do not apply any excessive force to the cooler condenser assembly or pipe when installing the radiator assembly.
- INSTALL NO. 2 FAN SHROUD Install the No. 2 fan shroud with the 2 bolts and 2 claws. Torque: 7.0 N*m (71 kgf*cm, 62 in.*lbf)
- INSTALL UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SUB-ASSEMBLY Install the 2 radiator support cushions. Temporarily install the upper radiator support sub-assembly with the 5 bolts. Fully tighten the bolt (A). Torque: 5.5 N*m (56 kgf*cm, 49 in.*lbf) Fully tighten the bolt (B). Torque: 5.5 N*m (56 kgf*cm, 49 in.*lbf) Fully tighten the bolt (C). Torque: 13 N*m (127 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf) Connect the clamp of the hood lock control cable. Connect the cooling fan ECU connector and 3 clamps. Connect the horn connector.
- CONNECT NO. 1 INVERTER COOLING HOSE ASSEMBLY Connect the No. 1 inverter cooling hose assembly and 3 clamps.
- CONNECT OUTLET NO. 1 HYBRID WATER PUMP HOSE Connect the outlet No. 1 hybrid water pump hose and 3 clamps.
- CONNECT NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE Connect the No. 2 radiator hose.
- CONNECT NO. 1 RADIATOR HOSE Connect the No. 1 radiator hose. Connect the reserve tank hose.
