INTRODUCTION

Note. California and Federal applies to installed emission equipment, which may be verified by underhood emission decal. California emissions may be available in other states. References to California models applies to California emission vehicles.

Sensor operating range information can help determine if a sensor is out of calibration. An out-of-calibration sensor may not set a trouble code, but it may cause driveability problems.

Note. Unless stated otherwise in testing procedure, perform all voltage tests using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance.

AIRFLOW METER

Airflow meter may be referred to as Volume Airflow (VAF) meter or Mass Airflow (MAF) meter. For terminal identification and testing, see SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article.

ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR

For engine coolant temperature sensor location, see the SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article. Measure resistance between engine coolant temperature sensor electrical terminals. Ensure resistance is within specification in relation to specified temp. (Scheme 1)

INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR

For intake air temperature sensor testing, see the SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article. Measure resistance between intake air temperature sensor electrical terminals. Ensure resistance in within specification in relation to specified temp. (Scheme 1)

OXYGEN SENSOR HEATER

Oxygen sensor heater may be used only on various models and oxygen sensor applications. See OXYGEN SENSOR APPLICATION table.

SUB-OXYGEN SENSOR HEATER

Sub-oxygen sensor heater may be used on various models. See OXYGEN SENSOR APPLICATION table. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between sensor terminals +B and HT. For terminal identification, see the SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article. Replace sub-oxygen sensor if resistance is not 11-16 ohms at 68°F (20°C).

THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR

For terminal identification and testing procedures, see the SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article.
